Guys saw Brady, Griese, Grbach and others in the NFL and realized Carr's program produced NFL quality QBs. In fact, toward the end of his freshman year, Mallet commented how great he thought the QB coaches were and how he was really liking the program.

But he was smart to leave UM when RR arrived. The spread is no good for producing NFL QBs and Mallet had zero mobility.
