dnb just isnt as good these days .. imo ( and others , look how many older tracks are appearing , REAL dnb ) modern producers , at least many of them just took the 2-step "kick-snare" pattern and turned dnb into "bang-doof" drum pattrens and lfo wobbling , software has changed things . take a modern track on vinyl that tries to be like old style .. then get a real older techstep record and play it ... hear how more life the drums have in the best tunes and how distinct the bass / synth is !!!
@Python4s I agree with you mostly, but a lot of people are overlooking the new underground dnb scenes. The big names aren't pushing any boundaries or putting any emphasis on the beats, whereas if you look out for names such as Stray, Halogenix, Spectrasoul, Raiden, Break etc you will find original, well produced and soulful tunes.
@esboniceland , i do hear occasional good modern dnb , its getting better. The jungle/dnb sound generally came from the way sounds mastered onto vinyl , the music was built around that , and thats where the signature sound came from .. pushing the limits of that format made the beats fat n heavy and the bass thick and tasty . Sure digital is great for certain styles , i just dont dig where dnb has been going sonically , but im happy for those do . my fave mix .. moving shadow 98.1
@Python4s Yeah that's a fair point if you don't dig those styles... Most of the music scene needs a bit of a kick up the arse, but i like the direction DnB is going and underground genres will never be fixed for long.
This sounds just like a Photek track..
