john's not at fault, but his jimmy kimmel appearance solo for the same song was much better, both acoustically and structually.

It's not a setup problem. Sometime you just have to tweak knobs on you amp to get nice OD power saturation out of it, you can't get it via pedals. I do it too when I play live. It's not just the notes you play but how and what you play them through.
