Arpeggios are tools and you have to use them musically to sound musical.

Not just running up and down the neck like 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 5 - 3 - 1 etc etc.

To be musical you have to juggle the notes around so that you don't sound like Paul Gilbert or a sequenser.

But I guess if you haven't got any musical ideas all you can do is play scales and arpeggios up and down the neck all day long.
