  • Oh jesus

  • ATTENTION every rower's thought - "shit" ROW

  • CANADA...CANADA!!!!

  • Canadians using an empacher! are they crazy?? :P

  • @patrarok apparently they only did so because of a technical problem with their hudson in the days leading up to the race.

  • GO CANADA!

  • i train out of the same place Micah Boyd trained out of

  • America just had to be different with a blue shell...

  • @cornFLAKE241 its a Hudson. Hudson hold the world record time for the M8. we go hard with diifferent boats.

  • USA WILL WIN IN 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @chingchong41 germany.

  • @chingchong41 if they qualify

  • geil guckt mich an bin ein elch

  • The 10 minutes you have to wait right before a race are the worst 10 minutes ever.

  • go Oxford!

  • OK Canada, you can win at rowing lol

  • @plastinate1 hahaha holy shit, that made my day man :D

  • The US probably could have taken 2nd if they were rowing an empacher like everyone else.

  • @OOTman00 ...your an idiot. they chose a hudson because it was faster for them. they also got the WR in that same boat in 2004.

  • @morthorse I was being sarcastic... you must be one of those know-it-all-douches on youtube that thinks that it's their duty to try to argue with everyone on youtube.

  • @OOTman00 in case you didn't realize, you can't detect sarcasm through a youtube comment.

  • @morthorse then if you dont have anything good to say, keep it to yourself

  • @OOTman00 irony.

  • Damn those 8s scoot

  • I would love to hear a recording of Canada's cox.....

  • @iwatchvloggers not hard to get a hold of

  • That's a paddling

  • anyone know what these guys got for 2km ergo scores?

  • Stupid auto correct.... Ment to be Acer Nethercott

  • Acerbic Nethercott the GB cox presented me and my year with our GCSE results last week cose he used to come to our school pretty cool, he wore his Beijing Olympics White jacket and his medal. Man how those medals are huge.

  • overall Great Britain took away more medals tho... including 2 Golds.

  • That's not very relevant to the fact that canada won.

  • @srsly101 overall we can both agree that America are shit at rowing.

  • @TheBarryviper Oh yes of course :D especially recently. :)

  • @TheBarryviper USA 2004 Athens, fastest 8 ever. Beat GB, beat Canada. Shit all over you, and funny thing is, it's only popular in 2 parts of our country. Yet again, we hold the record, fastest 8. EVER

  • ...jizz

  • I am watching this video 3 years after the race. The Canadian men's 8 performance remains inspiring. Wire to wire dominance.

  • i feel like i have to make a hetalia comment. i probably shouldnt though

  • Hey USA, hey Great Britain.....looks like little brother Canada got the tough guys in the water! What a Canadian masterpiece, good luck to all in London 2112!!

  • Fuck look at those Canadiens go

  • what's the name of the american boat (the blue one)?? it seems to be the only "not empacher" in the final

  • @TheMidnightTrain im not sure but being yellow doesnt make it an empacher, there are blue/green/pink empachers and even fillipy makes different colour boats.

  • @CrocodileRowing

    ok! thank you !!

  • @CrocodileRowing They have have Empachers, only Germany gets a different colour empacher, USA is in a Hudson

  • @TheMidnightTrain Its a hudson.

  • @TheMidnightTrain Its a Hudson

  • GIVE ME THE MEN'S 4- RACE!!!

    FINDING OSAMA WAS EASIER!

  • GIVE ME THE MEN'S 4- RACE!!!

    FINDING OBAMA WAS EASIER!

  • Im getting tired just watching these guys!

  • imagine what would be left of your ribcage if you crabed at this speed... D:

  • Well in virginia, we only row 1500 meter races :)

  • @OOTman00 same here in NY

  • @OOTman00 That is weird

    It is usually 2000m

  • @AndyWhite010 american juniors only race 1500 for competitions

  • i guarantee most pple here just searched "winklevoss twins rowing" lol

  • dude, don't put the winners in the description, it really ruins the excitement :D

  • is a 5:23.72 2k the world record?? that's insane..... my high school novice crew rows like a 7:30. a to be below 6 minutes is ridiculous

  • @musiclover5138220 dude they r olympic rowers. i dont even kno what my crew rows but its far worse than this xD

  • @SuperVeloce178583 yeah bro... these guys are pretty ok i guess you could say ;) hahhaha not... the run on these boats is so sick and their timing is perfect. i think 2 of these guys could beat any novice 8 in a 2k any day

  • @musiclover5138220 yeah a top highschool squad (well what the top New Zealand Highschool 8 gets) is around 5.50 , i think the top nz school 8 time is just under that which is pretty damn impressive, i think the under 15 (junior novie) is usually around 650 best times.. not as sure on that one

  • british are good at:- rowing, sailing, cycling and swimming ;) and other stuff like being awesome

  • @Oshtinpowers

They're also good at in-breeding and producing children with bad teeth and hygiene.

  • @nechikens im british, i have perfect teeth, perfect breath, and in-breds are rare now, are you american btw??

  • @Oshtinpowers It doesn't matter whether he's American or not. Idiots come in all shapes and sizes.

  • @Oshtinpowers

Oh, don't even get me started on those fat fucks.

  • @nechikens hahah, what nationality are you then? :P

  • show offs

  • Were Cam and Tyler Winklevosses on this team?

  • @bekahrbjo they were in the olympic pair, got 6th

  • sooo. how many meters did they row for?

  • @rakanichu321 2000 meters

  • racing start system -_-

  • how many meters did they row for??

  • @Kylexy950 did you honestly just ask this question?

  • @timothysherrange yes i did, and what would the answer be??

  • what the hell is up with everyone and "bow side" "Stern side". COrrect if Im wrong but: Bow is the head of the boat, stern is back of the boat, starboard is left side (of rower) port is right side (of rower)

  • everyone in empachers, except the states.

  • wheres the winklevi?

  • @Speedosify The back of the pairs final.

  • Hey Great Video But Does anyone know where you can watch the cbc version? I totally miss the emotion and the energy in the broadcasting by the canadian commentators as this was total redemption :)

Youtube is not really a good help and ive searched the net endlessly

    thanks

  • 3:45 Three guesses what race plan they're using

  • where are the winklevosses?

  • @TheDarkNobleOne

They rowed in the 2-. Not the men's 8+

  • @TheDarkNobleOne they are in the m2-

  • @TheDarkNobleOne Don't you mean, Wrinklevi?

  • @TheDarkNobleOne In the pair... not the eight

  • @TheDarkNobleOne

in the coxless pair, getting shat on with everyone else by australia!! =)

  • @TheDarkNobleOne In the pair.

  • @TheDarkNobleOne winklevoss participated in the 4 man crew event

  • @srinivaskari no they got 5th in the pair.

  • great!

  • What is their rating??

  • I was in a head race a fortnight ago and me and my partner in our double had to wait 1 and a half hours

  • i hate waiting to start

  • how many strokes per minute are they rowing?

  • @harwoodhomies most crews at this level have to maintain at about 36-38. and then sprints, power 10/20 at 40+ spm. pretty crazy.

  • @spg789 that is insane. do you know what the average split time is?

  • Steve Coppola (rower for USA in this event) went to the High school im attending right now.......GO CANISIUS!!!!!!!!!!

  • That would suck so hard if you caught a crap going this fast.

  • How could you even begin to suggest that sculling is more fun than standard rowing? I'm a rower and I have experience in both fields and despite my respect for both, the latter is by far the most satisfying.

  • fuck me, that's power

  • how many meters

  • @Mylesperhour20 2000 metres of hell. 2k's are the most dreaded things rowers must go through

  • @buffalo6542 no, 6k's are way worse.

  • @Raptor72896 A 6k is easier because it's longer and your not pushing as hard, it mostly testing endurance. A 2k on the other hand test endurance and strength. It also test your ability to push through any and all sorts of pain you don't experience on a 6k. A 6k you know is going to be long and mentally your ready for that. With a 2k however you want it to be short, but it seems to go on forever.

  • The US boat might be a Vespoli

  • @ryan918 It's a Hudson, if you look at 8:04 it shows the name.

  • The boat might be a Vespoli

  • Geez, Canada's ratio is ludicrous...

  • @manofpopsicle516 yeah, because they're barely in the water.

  • @manofpopsicle516 Hell yeah only crew in the world that can pull of a 3:1 ratio and a rate of 40 at the same time for all 2K

  • @NAXE5 whats a 3:1 ratio?

  • @sydneydragonblades Ratio is

Time spent on recovery : Time spent on drive

Basically, the Canadians have a very, very fast drive

  • amazinggggg <3

  • They don't look tight, but they pull ---> Totally agree, very powerful, very determined.

  • what is the point of bucket rigging?

  • @xomi3 evan colpppp

  • @STEVO1849 yoooooooo supp man. glad to know ur watchin these too eh?

  • @xomi3 people think it makes you go faster

  • @xomi3 it helps keep some people in time with the other rowers

  • @xomi3 if a rower is more power that something da something la something. all i know is that it has to do with the power of the rowers.

  • @xomi3 It allows power to be applied in a different way to eliminate "wiggle" in the boat.

  • @xomi3 bucket rigging can be used to help with a number of problems including uneven power distribution between port and starboard side as well as issues such as matching. When I was in high school, we would bucket rig to compensate for our inability to effectively match in a straight rig.... This doesn't mean that Olympic boats can't match if they bucket rig. There are some nations that consistently do this. I would take a look at Wikipedia for more information.

  • @xomi3 Equal out the power in the boat

  • @xomi3 each oar is generating a moment around the centre of the boat, by introducing a bucket rig the rotational forces around the centre of the boat balance out better, theoretically reducing wasted energy.

Also it is useful in training as it allows a less experienced rower to exactly follow a more experienced rower directly in front.

  • @xomi3

It removes the moment on the boat generated from a standard rig

  • @xomi3 if you want to change the position of someone based on their power or technique in the boat, sometimes u need to change the rigging as well.

  • @xomi3 its actually slightly faster than regular rigging. it is also helps a boat that has two rowers on the same side that are much stronger than the rowers on the opposite side go straighter.

  • @xomi3 it helps even out power differentials if one side is outpulling the other

  • @xomi3 it makes boats go fast!!!

  • @xomi3 Bucket Rigging can isolate two rowers with similar strokes so they are more productive (or less disruptive if that is the case). Also, recent studies have shown that the 4seat/5seat bucket rig (also known as the German Rig) keeps the boat on a straighter course. All power being produced goes into direct horizontal movement over the water, nothing is lost laterally. The rig of the canadian boat is P,S,P,S,S,P,S,P. There is a great article about it somewhere on the net.

  • @xomi3 bucket rigging is used mainly to let guys row their preffered/ better side while keeping a good lineup. also certain rigs are said to reduce boat wobble, but not signifigant

  • @xomi3 Couple of reasons depending on the scenario. Sometimes it is to put a powerful, yet slightly less technically proficient rower behind one who is better technically so the lesser rower can "milk" off of the guy in the seat in front of him. Other times it can be used to better distribute the power. If you have two guys on one side of the boat who generate a lot more torque than other guys, you can put them in a bucket so that the cox doesn't have to steer against their torque.

  • @xomi3 Boats bucket rig... usually in 4s. The only reason ive seen it done was because if you have a unbalance of strength

A strong person has less effect on the boat's course if you put him in the center most seats.

  • @xomi3 but ive also seen it done because you need to balance out a powerhouse by putting two people on the same side behind him

  • @xomi3 Bucket rigs can help with balance/steering in fours if you have an over powered bowside or strokeside.

In an eight it allows you to have a bowside strokesman.

  • @thebrainiac1 you mean starboard.....or port, wtf is bow side????

  • @Utoobepooper thebrainiac is saying that stroke can now be on the same side that bow is on. I'm sure he knows his port from his starboard. To have a single bucket rig, like he said, your stroke will be on the bow's side.

  • @Utoobepooper you clealry don't row, bow side is what rowers call port or left, (as a rower) (right as a coxswain in a stern coxed boat) .. bow side and stroke side.. its kind of against every other water based boat activity but yeah, thast rowing terminology for ya

  • @Paddie5843 depends where your from, some places say starboard and port, some do stroke and bow, depends.

  • @srsly101 yeah i thought they might do that in some places after reading through here, oh well yeah here in New Zealand its all bow side and stroke side, i dont know why and yes it does seem weird but yeah haha

  • @Paddie5843 true that lol, same here in UK. :)

  • @Paddie5843

Close but a little backwards. Bow side is starboard (right side of the boat, left side of rower). Stroke side is port (left side of boat, right side of rower). This terminology was based on a standard rigged boat which is port stroked.

  • @xomi3 zero net moment on the boat

  • I've been watching all of the 1x, 2x, and 4x finals of the last 3 olympic games. All the sculling technique is so flawless and utterly perfect, i thought that if the sculling was that good, ive got to see what an olympic 8+ looks like but this is actually not impressive at all... I mean they're strong as hell and pretty synched but I've seen my high school JV 4+ row better technically than the Canadians here.. Nothing against Canada, just using them because they won.

  • @pendragon259 I highly doubt that

  • @pendragon259, you are a moron. I hope you are about 12, in which case you can be forgiven for such utter stupidity.

  • @pendragon259 The Canadians could beat you JVs with 1 hand tied behind thier back. I'm not joking, but I see what you are saying; they do miss water at the catch.

The reason the drive looks bad is because they are exploding off the catch, its violent, and very powerfull.

  • @NAXE5 dont get me wrong, i have the highest respect for the best crew in the world im just saying i clicked on this expecting to see better

  • rowing- best sport ever, olympic or not. bucket rigging an eight is new to me though... seems like it would warp the frame

  • go netherlands !!!

  • I dont really loke sweeping... doubles are the best :)

  • @MrSoperj straight quad=WIN

  • that bucket rigged canadian eight is SEXY

  • Look at all of the empachers. But what boat is the U.S rowing in? I mean, I'm pretty sure its not an Empacher, because they are either yellow or pink hues. Anybody know?

  • @MrMcGwn

    Hudson, from Canada.

  • @SriLankanMonkey

are you sure? I thought the majority of US boats were Vespoli

  • @SriLankanMonkey

I thought the majority of American boats were Vespoli?

  • @HolycrapTER maybe, im not sure. my rowing club mainly uses vespoli's for novice eights. and resolutes for varsity and junior varsity eights. not sure about our fours or our skulls, though.

  • @SriLankanMonkey

Hudson is the best boat for rowers, who trains on wavy water. I don't how do they do that boat, but it's just flies on the waves. But I think Emapcher is better for calm water, like a not big lake or a river.

  • @MrMcGwn

actually it's not empacher, and it's not hudson. US crews always row in Vespoli

  • @a4format that's actually a hudson, if you look at the riggers and the little "Hudson" sticker on the stern...but yes, traditionally americans row vespolis, which is weird because the italian team hasn't used a vespoli in ages haha

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMcGwn Hudson... they are great boats! I rowed them at University of san diego
