Adorable! I have a chocolate lab & a black lab. My chocolate does all the tricks tho. She shakes, high fives, shake right paw, shake left paw, speak, hugs, sit, lay down, go pick up whatever we tell her to go get. Im trying to teach her patty cake cuz u saw it on the pet talent show on animal planet. She was always really pawsy so it was easy. Very smart dogs. We don't say park cuz she goes nuts so we spell it but I think she figured it out, so I guess she knows how to spell :) lol

he is a really fast learner it took me 5 minutes to teach him the speak and roll over commands and he already learned how to sit, stay, jump, lay down, fetch, shake hands, high five, etc. all by himself! labs r super smart

what i did is i kept on saying speak and kept barking like a dog and then ,my dog started to bark and when ever i said speak he barked so keep doing this until he gets the command

U have to take something he really likes like f.e. some meat and then u show it too him and tell him to speak. He wont know what to do but after a while he will hopefully start barking because he wants the meat. Then u give him the meat and he will understand (after a few repititions) what "speak" means.

It's really easy, barking is in their nature, you need to 'catch' the moment (or provoke it,, in your case doorbell), and enforce good behavior. (ie, associete barking with a command of your choosing, then associete the command and reword)

Took me 3 minutes to enforce it on Lara when she was 2.5 months old.

Dont yell, dont repeat yourself often, and above all stay calm.

BTW look delighted everytime pup does something you want, that's the best treat for them imo.

I discovered that whilst training my dog to do certain routines like a: Sit!, Lie down!, sit up!;and stand! routine.

She will respond to my body movements.

Because I used the same postures and hand gestures for the verbal commands CONSISTENTLY (sorry no italics) she learned non-verbal commands.

She now knows commands for whistles, non-verbal gestures, clicks and of course verbal commands. I have also taught a deaf dog (my first dog) sign language! it shocked me as I had never done it before! x

Find something that makes your dog bark.Mine was barking when i was not playing with him.Now,provided that you found,every time he barks,or as he barks tell him woof or speak and give him a treat,something he likes tooo much :D ! Do this many times and your dog will learn

Lots of patience, time, treats; toys and love!

Mixed breed dogs are usually the easiest to train and often much smarter than pedigree dogs(doggies purists don't have a go, this is, in my experience, with all the dogs I have had and known)Boxers are clever dogs and so are labs, not sure about pitbulls as the only ones I know are horribly trained! Good luck with your training!

It's very simple. Do something to trigger your dog to bark and when he does, say "Speak" while he's barking and reward him with a treat immediately. After a few attempts he will associate Speak with barking. That's how I taught my lab...except I don't have to snap my fingers when I say the command.
