My chicken laid one like that today for the first time too. They're call Fairy Eggs or Wtich Eggs. They are yolkless and happen when the shell is made before a yolk is placed inside it.

We actually got 2 of these this week from our chickens. We raise Cuckoo Marans (really big chocolate colored eggs) and Americauna's (easter egg chickens-blue/green/pink eggs) At first I thought someone had fed them something weird....but realized it was a teeny eggs. weird huh?

but sayin that one of my big hens layd a freaky small egg like that before :S was weird , but u do get chickens that grow to the size of a tin of soup i have them there tiny little things they have there own run so that the other chickens dont bully them pluse there the ideal size for my cat's to eat.

i have had a smaller one and blue from my legbars. it happens when a bit of the chickens insides brake of and past the stomck and it traveles dow nthe chickens and is made into an egg!! dnt eat it!!

Oi, It happens when a hen doesn't get enough calcium to make the shell, so it cannot make enough shell for a regular sized egg. So due to lack of calcium this happens, if she had less calcium, she could have become eggbound, meaning the egg gets stuck and she can die. To prevent this, simply give your hens more calcium, i use small pieces of oyster shells and sand.

I've had a chicken egg that is smaller than that one. It's weight was 3g, smaller then a pigeons egg.

It was the first egg that hen laid, so it was natural for it to be small.

But, just wanted to say, that your egg is not the smalest.
