My family had this motor on a 18 tri-hull, no problem pulling two slalom skiers, and pulled 3 people up on two ski's, ran that motor hard for over 20 years without any major problems.
OK WE YOU guys are freaks, OUTBOARDS AWSOME. WE are all nuts to go out of sight of land with a pice of shit like an old outboard. It scares me the further I get from the dock, satey, land ,home, electricty hotwater. BUT DAMIT we still do it are we all stupid, its fun. OH also the polution restriction the FUCKIN GOVT puts on motor vehicles and outboards ABSOLUTLY ENRAGES ME!!!! Nothing smells better than outboard exhaust in the water HUH!!! Somebody REPLY
I swear by Evinrude and can attest to how good their motors are. I have a 1981 Cee Bee boat with a 140 2 stroke Evinrude package.I got the boat from my dad and the boat had been sitting for almost five years!I had the carbs, plugs, wires, and water pump all replaced out of sheer pre-caution.The fucking motor has NEVER one time left me stranded on the lake and runs 60mph! My boat mechanic of 30 yrs plus experience told me that evinrude/johnson is the most reliable motor ever made.hit the gas!!
@Nirrozero Temp gauge is easy. Just bolt the sending unit on the top starboard head. This is the warmest head on the motor. The water pressure gauge was a little more tricky. I had to drill and tap the block and screw in the sending unit. I used the small boss that is located on the starboard side of the head as the area to drill and tap.
Just curious...what do you mean by "reworked" the heads?

@Paulsmarinesalvage I had a machine resurface the heads after the motor over heated.

@DanOlooney Most likely what you are looking at is the ignition module.

Yea that was a fast plane :) I got a 1967 Johnson 100hp I've been working on.
These motors ever fail to amaze me. Over 40 years old and the thing still screams like the day it was made.
