I have Travis Bickle's life, I am alone, no parents, no friends, no wife... I wake up daily at 5 am to go work in a job for $900 dollars monthly, I barely have free time, and all my free time I dedicate it to be on the internet, I think I am a psychopath, I got two pistols under my bed and I don't know why, believe me, you would not like to have my life, I don't wish this to no body, not even to my enemies.
@nxvznx Very true, the people who say he is their "Hero" are quite immature people who don't realise what depression and being lonely is all about. No one would want for this life.
@nxvznx Yeah I can relate to this character. That's why it's one of my favorite movies. I never wanted to kill a bunch of pimps though but I grew up in NYC and understand the isolation, lethargy, severe depression and the feeling of wanting to do "something". His animosity towards the "scum" was the outside world which he felt he couldn't connect to and found a reason to want to destroy it. He wasn't a psychopath, he was psychotic. Also the fact he was (allegedly) a vietnam vet added to this.
Outside of the zillions of observations and theories for ambiguous scenes, something that always struck me was "Why does a guy who can't sleep just stop popping uppers?"
@nxvznx I suppose everyone develops their own standards for what qualifies as "scum". "Scum" is merely a label, as is "depression". What qualifies as "feeling depressed" can vary, as does whether society views feeling depressed as a positive, negative, or neutral experience.
@orgasmicide2 Maybe so, but a lot of poets like to leave room for alternative interpretations, instead of dictating a specific relevance to the lyrics. Loneliness can come from various sources and the song essentially conveys that emotion, while allowing the listener to personalize the message.
@dgriff1264 People do not understand this movie. Travis Bickle was not a hero. He was some ex-soldier who finally snapped, and the fail that is mass media portrayed this messed up guy as hero. He could snap any second and kill someone.
@RichardBaartman That's true, but what always interested me was the possibility that God made it so he would be lonely as a way of judging Sport and saving Iris from a sinful life?
And yeah, Travis Bickle isn't a good guy. But he's not evil if you ask me. He's more of an anti-hero, a vigilante. If you look at things in his own fucked up little way, it actually kind of makes sense.
Would have much rather preferred clips from the actual movie instead of yet another gay montage with gay music made by some amateur using imovie.

cool movie, but that song! "The most loneliest day of life. Oh, boo hoo hooooooo!" This song puts the "Mo" in "Emo".
qu1et 1 year ago
@qu1et Yeah, shockingly enough there are some people in the world who have these things we call 'emotions'. Shocking, huh?
koshermal 1 year ago
@qu1et this is by system of a down totally unlike their other songs. i agree it sounds emo but theyre not an emo band.
