@nxvznx Yeah I can relate to this character. That's why it's one of my favorite movies. I never wanted to kill a bunch of pimps though but I grew up in NYC and understand the isolation, lethargy, severe depression and the feeling of wanting to do "something". His animosity towards the "scum" was the outside world which he felt he couldn't connect to and found a reason to want to destroy it. He wasn't a psychopath, he was psychotic. Also the fact he was (allegedly) a vietnam vet added to this.

@nxvznx I suppose everyone develops their own standards for what qualifies as "scum". "Scum" is merely a label, as is "depression". What qualifies as "feeling depressed" can vary, as does whether society views feeling depressed as a positive, negative, or neutral experience.

@orgasmicide2 Maybe so, but a lot of poets like to leave room for alternative interpretations, instead of dictating a specific relevance to the lyrics. Loneliness can come from various sources and the song essentially conveys that emotion, while allowing the listener to personalize the message.

@dgriff1264 People do not understand this movie. Travis Bickle was not a hero. He was some ex-soldier who finally snapped, and the fail that is mass media portrayed this messed up guy as hero. He could snap any second and kill someone.

And yeah, Travis Bickle isn't a good guy. But he's not evil if you ask me. He's more of an anti-hero, a vigilante. If you look at things in his own fucked up little way, it actually kind of makes sense.
