@metalskateboarder965 Make sure you follow the tutorial to the letter! This is important. However, it may seem that your computer is having compatability issues with PMDG issues in general if the MD-11 is affected as well. Does your computer meet the requirements for the addons?
Great vid......just 1 question...i keep getting yaw damper lwr and yaw damper upr error showing,i have googled my a**e off trying to get the solution but nothing....any advice.......... thanks
Hi, thank you for your quick response. When you say load up the Cessna 152, are you referring to PMDG add-on? or FSX default, thank you again for your help, I was in the air training Corps, back in the 50s, did some flying in a chipmunk and twin-engine Anderson, good memories. Michael.
Hi, I enjoy your video tutorial 747, I have PMDG 747 installed into my FSX, there is only one problem, I load the PMDG 747, when I go into load flight for cold and dark- KPAE, it is not their? all the other programs are loaded in their, do you have to download cold and dark for 747? As a add-on, and if so where do I find it, hoping you can help, thank you. Michael. PS keep those videos coming.
You need to select EXTERNAL POWER to be available in the PMDG menu. By going into ADDONS or PMDG then selecting EXTERNAL POWER to be availiable at gates.
It is probably available to you in the GROUND menu or something like that. Have a look through all of them until you can find what you are looking for =)
Part 1 I always load PMDG 747-400X Cold & Dark - KPAE with the Load button in the Free Flight options screen, as you did at 1.11 minutes in your tutorial. My point was that it doesn't matter what you were doing before, whether it was a completely different scenario, or just started FS, as in your tutorial, PMDG747-400X Cold & Dark KPAE remains the same.
@decinormal Ok, well this is how FSX is meant to work. The load flight button will load all your details from a previously saved flight. There is nothing abnormal here.
Part 2 For example, PMDG747-400X Cold & Dark KPAE uses the Boeing 747-400 GE so, even though, at 55 seconds in your tutorial, you chose Boeing 747-400 PW. I believe that, when you loaded Cold and Dark, you actually ended up with the Boeing 747-400 GE.
@decinormal Mmmm.... I can't remember the exact details of the tutorial as I made it so long ago. But these are just minor details and so they shouldn't really be worried about.
Yes. This is on FSX SP1 in Windows XP SP2. The saved scenarios seem to be completely self-contained so, even if I have just exited a flight in a Beech King Air over Friday Harbour in a midwinter blizzard at midnight, the Cold and Dark is still the PMDG 747, with in-house livery, parked at Paine Field at noon on a sunny, autumn day. Also, I use the standard Cold and Dark to create Cold and Dark at Heathrow, for example, which seems a more useful starting point.
Mmmm... I think you are loading up the saved flight from the actual FSX LOAD FLIGHT menu. To get a cold and dark in any 747 you must select the aircraft first, then in the actual flight go to the ADDONS menu ---> PMDG then LOAD PANEL STATE. From there click on COLD AND DARK AT SEATTLE (don't worrry about the SEATTLE thing). This should get you set up.
I mean that, even when the Current Aircraft is the default Aircreation Trike Ultralight, when I load Cold and Dark it automatically loads the PMDG 747 with in-house livery. I don't have to pre-select the PMDG 747. Does your version not do that?
Oh yes I see what you mean! Ok, so is your aircraft in the cold and dark config?? I haven't been on FS in ages so I'm a little rusty. It shouldn't change the aircraft?
Sorry to be a year too late but I'm just now learning. I wondered why you first selected the PMDG 747 in-house livery then loaded the Cold and Dark. I just directly load the Cold and Dark and seem to get the same as you and with no bugs, by the way. Also, when I am not sure what something does, I go to the Jerome Meriweather website and get a quite detailed description of any feature on the flight deck. Also, the ITVV Virgin Atlantic video is really useful.
Well I selected the 747 for obvious reasons; that's what the tutorial IS about. Also I selected the Cold and Dark from the menu because that's the easiest way to do things. People say there are bugs, but I haven't found any :)
Thanks and I will be uploading loads of new tutorials soon so keep checking out my channel!
Nope lol! I wish I was though! I'm 15 now although I was 14 when I made this tutorial. Hope fully in a few years I should be doing this for real and not in a flight sim :D
@pilotdrummer95 ooh lol I thought you were older :p, Im also 15, also want to be a pilot, but im currently soarflying and busy with my GPL, so that's a beginning!:P I wish you good luck with following your dreams!
Thanks for the kind feedback! If you want to look aroung the cockpit you can buy some addons which make it easier (DBS Walk-and-Follow, Track IR) or you can use the standard FS modules. You probably saw me use the standard FS module. What I did was I held down the SPACEBAR and moved my mouse around the screen. I find this a good way to look around the cockpit.
To look around the cabin and cockpit, you'll need to use your CTRL, SHIFT, ENTER and BACKSPACE buttons to explore this feature!
Hi there! I've followed all your steps then I got to the end. But I wonder why my Primary Flight Indincator still has no artificial horizon (the brown and sky colour) for me to look at. How can I turn it on so it will be like a normal PFD?
OK. There can either be two possibilities to this problem. You either haven't turned the STBY POWER to AUTO however your EICAS indications would be blank as well.
So the only reason I can think of is that your IRS (inertial reference systems haven't yet fully aligned. I'll take you through the steps. Firstly you need to swicth them to NAV then ALIGN. At the end of 10 minutes the ND will say 0 mins to align, then you can switch the switch to NAV. Hope this helps :)
The THR button will automatically set the throttles to the set N1 power setting, which is set on the EICAS screens. You can see the power setting in green at the top of the N1 coloumns on the EICAS.
Hello, i have a problem when i click on EXT pwr1 nothing happens, but apu gen1 and apu gen2 i can click on it and many lights come what you said but not when i click on EXT PWR 1. And when you start Flight Simulator you see on EXT PWR 1 button a avail but i not see that only at the APU GEN 1 and 2 button?
Hello, make sure that stanby power is selected to AUTO and that ground power is selected in the PMDG options menu. As for your query about the APU lights on AVAIL when you start up your sim I think you may have to contact the support team at PMDG.
Thanks for commenting, and I hope this sorts out your problem. Remember to have a fiddle in the PMDG options menu.
Hello, i have change it in the meno and i can know clic on The EXT pwr1 and the light come on but when i go to my panels i not see my instruments work. So what i do wrong i follow your instruction and push the EXT PWR1 button and lok at the panel and than nothing going up? crazy but thank you for help me.
Hello there! You now need to make sure that the stanby power is set to AUTO. This should hopefully resolve your problem and thanks for becoming friends! ;)
My panels still won't turn on!!! It's the same with my md 11 it doesn't work :(

@mick19411 You can do this another way if this should fail you.
Load up the Cessna 152 and turn everything off... even the battery. Then load up your PMDG 747 and you should then have a Cold and Dark cockpit.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling too.
Thanks for your kind words

Where can I select this option "EXT Power available at gates"?
I know there is a PMDG menu but there is nothing with ground power....

Just a note to you and your viewers:
The "Cold & Dark" saved flight that comes with the PMD 744X has a bug in it.
Do not use it.
Delete it.
If you want to properly start up from C&D, load the aircraft, shut everything down and save it. Use the new save any time you want to start from C&D.
