And btw i loved the Tiger Rag he played with Frank Vignola. It's pretty awesome. I'm going to play like Ken someday i hope, and maybe some like Benny Goodman. :)
yes I'm aware how old he is. He's got over twenty years on me. The old comment was just in reply to a guy that remarked ,"Ive played clarinet for 3 years and haven't played that good before. That guy has alot of talent!" Ken Peplowski's playing is about a lot more than just talent and has been playing a long time. That was all.
Yes, I must agree with Mambo Jazz. I had the privelege of playing a set with Ken at the Elkhart Jazz Festival. This was with Bill Allred's Classic Jazz Band and he was fantastic. I then stayed for his set that followed ours and his tenor sax playing is also marvelous and does not mimick his clarinet playing. Great musician.
Omgosh! Thank you so much for posting this, you have no idea how happy it's made me. I went to CYM in 2005 and 2006, and I remember this so well, I loved this performance. I couldn't attend CYM this year because of my brother's wedding which conflicts with the dates,so I've been going crazy, especially since CYM is happening currently.Thank you for posting this!!!
I disagree with this comment. Ken Peplowski is one of the few clarinet sax players that doesn't imitate sax at all. He's only playing what clarinet is capable of. Which is beautiful music.
The tune is "The World is Waiting for the Sunrise" . . . superb.

A jazz band without clarinets is a terrible thought. They don't know what they're missing :)

Ken is great, but there are a few others. One of the best ones is Antti Sarpila from Finland (also well-known in the US).

don't be fooled. This is not some average joe clarinet player. He's a professional. Quite famous. And old obviously.

i love how he has this liquid smooth clarinet tone, but also plays like a sax player.

I don't think I have heard anything like this! I love it. I'm a "classical" clarinetist. I have a long way to go after hearing this. :)
