@TormentedLucrious, I successfully use the camera to communicate via Skype. I think that the camera will work with other aplications.

I love this version of linux on my Aspire One, why it comes loaded with Windows XP is far beyond my understanding

Why not use both XP and Ubuntu? You can run it from a flash drive and take it with you anywhere and still keep your primary OS for emergency.

My primary OS is Ubuntu Linux. It has everything you want to work. I do not need Windows or other OS.
