Absolutely! It's more of a hopping, but no problems with either of mine.

Not only does my Pem climb the stairs all the time, he climbs mountains (here in Colorado, with me, hiking.) He's got four paw drive.

Remember, these are real working herding dogs at heart, bred to take on full size cattle, not a toy breed. They have been bred, for a thousand years, to stand up to a charging bull, dodge the horns trying to gore them, and bite the bull's nose as hard as they can!

Mine wrestles with dogs up to 100 pounds. One of his favorite friends is a Bernese.

it's up to the breeder's choice whether or not they have the tails cut! :] I just saw a Corgi with a tail in the Westminster Canine Club Dog Show..he/she looks incredibly adorable!!

The UK passed a law that took effect March 08 banning almost all dogs from having their tails 'docked.' They've had to modify the breed standard in the UK to allow full tails for Pems, since most are born with tails. That's always been the standard for Cardigans.

It's not as brutal as it sounds. Usually, they tie a rubber band around the base of the tail at 24 hours old, and the tail falls off in a couple of days.

Tails were originally docked to prevent their being injured by cranky cows.

@vaneatonb unfortunately, now that UK breeders will try to "breed for" no tails it will pollute the blood lines and cause inbreeding. :o(  "banding" as you have described is a very good and relatively painless way of docking tails. Humans seem to forget that many of us have our infant son's circumcised, without anesthesia. Any of you men remember that? :oP

@canny3983 Actually, there are two breeds of corgi. The Cardigan Welsh and the Pembroke Welsh. Cardigans have long tails and slightly different facial bone structure and features as well as colorings while the Pembroke has a natural bob tail known as NBT's. Some Cardigan owners will participate in docking (the shortening of the tail) but people who prefer the bob look, go for a Pembroke.

@jaquearashii I have learned that there are two genic lines of Pembrokes - one that has the nub for a tail and one that has a tail. The line that has the tail is becomming more popular. So, one will see more Pembrokes with tails. Still cute

@krstnlhjt That's interesting that ones with tails are becomming more popular since it is considdered a flawed trait (when it comes to show) but I would also assume that show is decreasing in popularity as I haven't heard a lot about it recently as opposed to Xyears back when it was still all over the place... But you're exactly right, a corgi is a crogi cute with or without a tail. I actually think Pembrokes with longer tails have that much more personality to them as well.

I actually have a mixed Pembroke and American Eski, he's the cutest dog in the world, he's also the most behaived, never barks unless someone is coming, always cuddles up, sleeps on his back with all 4 legs in the air =)

well, i bought my Corgi, McKim, from the states...i got it from the breeder via the internet for US$800...then paid for the air fare($100-200, i forgot how much) for him to fly to Sea-Tac airport somewhere near Seattle.Then we drove back to Vancouver and paid for the duty(abt CAD$300)...so the total cost for McKim to become a member of our family is around $1300-1400CAD...haha...usually it only costs abt US$600 from breeder, but more than a thousand from pet store...
