Wow, I've never seen anyone like you and I'm soooo glad that there is some one of your age (no offence) that uses the internet on a daily basis! nice video by the way
woops , sorry for that comment - it was meant to be sent to one of the negative people against your video. I only just made a YouTube account so i'm a bit stuck :) nice video peter very well said
I know what you mean about stereotyping someone with tattoos and piercings. My friend's father fits the description but is one of the nicest people I know.
I just discovered your videos today, and I'd just like to say thank you so much for posting them. In a world that seems to become darker day after day, it always warms my spirits to see such good people as yourself.
kindness is rare even my self being guilty- have you ever bought a new pair of shoes, or bought a pack of cigarettes rituosly when you cant really afford it?- it really doesnt feel good but unfortunatly you chose to a make the desicion and you will eventually suffer for it somehow. in a broader and more severe degree thats what has happened to them. you are not required to feel pity for them or even agree with them but they are people. so, as i should for myself try to see them as people
how are people who have no opportunities becuase they have been beaten abused and abandoned, the scum of the earth? homeless people need to be helped. can u imagine being forced into prostitution and drugs, with nobody loving you and having nobody to love. to 'tsh2006' im sure ur daddy will look after you adn give u whatver u want, YOU are the scum of the earth u heartless bastard.
Tsh2006 -> If some gonna talk aboiut those people ur Heartless, i hope your Dad get`s fired and you all have to live on the street. It`s a shame how you react on things like that !
Sure, they maybe did some things wrong when they was younger, but is it thatn ok that you all laugh about things like that ?!
Stupid Bastard, shut up and even finish the school...
i dont see you as old you have in many ways very modern views of the world. as stupid as it sounds im a firm believer of youre as young as you feel im 16 and i cant see my base personality changing even when i reach seniority.
A man named Argent009 who claims to be a friend of yours recently left this comment on the video of a young woman discussing an abortion she had. "Wow, close one, a hater reproducing would have been terrible, shame your own parents didn't have the decency to do the right thing and shove a coat hanger where it belonged." Is this man really involved with you?
A great deal of them suffer from mental illness or some form of social dysfunction.
If they only had physical illnesses, nobody would mind them being helped to get well again. However mental illness is still stigmatised and these people will continue to suffer until we change that perception.
Indeed I've heard alot of stories about how many people beg on the streets only partly and have a perfectly reasonable life outside the streets. I'm sure this is not in application to the majority of people but still its this doubt that has had me against giving money to them. But I want to change and I will make a consicious effort next time I see somebody on the street to give them something.
I am deeply ashamed that I walk on by when they ask for change and the thinking of not giving them anything is down to partly that I was brought up to think that these people can work and are merely being lazy.
Well geriatric you've hit something quite hard there within me. I always feel compassion for people on the streets but I have never given any of these people anything.
In San Francisco our homelessness is wide spread. There is a wide variety of homeless persons. Drug addicts, alcoholics, and mentally ill are probably a large percentage, however, some are just literally people hard pressed to deal with the cost of living in San Francisco and aren't able to move else where either. I would laugh very hard if your father saw this and wrote you out of his will. I agree with your comment on the homless and the sick dog analogy, though.
Tsh2006 -> If some gonna talk aboiut those people ur Heartless, i hope your Dad get`s fired and you all have to live on the street. It`s a shame how you react on things like that !

It would be a wonderful year, this 2007, if we could all judge other people less and care for them more. It's so much easier to ignore and walk past others that we have to work to see eye to eye with, than to stop, take a good look and see where they are coming from. Only when we relate to others can we help them, and in turn become better people ourselves.
Maybe older people should learn from you this time. Most of your videos have been for the younger. Older folks are very judgemental. Maybe they will learn something.
"ive got lots of vices but none that i want to get rid of" ...that made me laugh out loud peter...great blog ..there but for the grace of God go I ...one never knows how those people ended up in that situation...i try to be kind to them and ask inside if i should help them...sometimes i hear a little voice that screams no and other times my heart seems to open and it feels right to help :)
The mental illnesses of depression, hopelessness, and inability to concentrate create homelessness. I don't think anybody chooses to not be able to get a job. There is no reason to hate or ignore them. Thanks.
They're certainly there because of their poor choices. One person I helped over several years needed much personal input to recover from living out of trash cans for a year. He wouldn't acknowledge my input as help but as a relationship, and that is OK. Some smashed furniture, windows and claimed grievances to remain in their lifestyle, but that's the price we pay to clear our conscience. It takes enormous personal and financial resources to make a difference. So proceed with great caution
Great post Pete. I think the reason why people dismiss other people so easily is they fear being used by others, being hurt, etc. Or everyone is out to get them.
I think it is always good to smile and acknowledge the people who sell the Big Issue whether or not you buy one. Ignoring them is so rude. A lot of them sell on the same streets day after day. I consider them like pseudo-neighbors. They are part of our community.
this was a great video about something I think everyone, even the extremely caring do.. its nice to hear the kind hearted thoughts about the situation, cuz as you somewhat alluded to, everyone deserves a chance... take care grandpa youtube!
I have always lived by that phylosophy. Two years ago it bit me in the butt. I went well beyond what normal people would have done for an individual over a number of years. When I could not put up with this persons life style, I stopped.. medical assistance, food, etc... They fabricated a story to the police. All charges were dropped TWO years later. I am outa of the "save the world business"... proceed with caution!
Great video. When I give to someone less fortunate,I dont put stipulations on my charity. If it goes for a drink..a drug,food..I dont care. We should not judge others. No one knows unless they walk in someones shoes and that is impossible. It is a sad state of affairs to have so many starving and homeless people with all the rich in the world. Even here in the states people cant even see a doctor because they have no health care. TAX THE RICH! That is the only solution...
I always used to give a few quid to the homeless, but one day after giving money to a guy dressed in raggs, i went back to my car and this same guy was getting changed into his suit and preparing to drive off in his mercedes... i will never give to the homeless again.
I can understand not all...but most of the homeless I see every day, NOW that I take the bus after my car was stolen, are ex- vietnam vets, and mental patients let out of facilities that closed. They have nothing, and no way to fit into the BUSH governmental system given the new welfare rules. They want to work, but there are no jobs in Michigan.
I know there are a good number of vets & mental patients on the whole, but here in FL, where it's warm most all year long, the homeless come from all over the country. So, we have a larger share of lolligaggers!
I don't know where you're at in Michigan BD, but I'm in Flint and there are few jobs here! I worked for years in mental health and lost my last therapist job a couple years ago. I see many of my old patients on the streets with no where to go as many are cut off from services and what services there are spend more time on paperwork instead of treatment and providing services!!
A Dallas TX news station did an expose on this. Hidden cameras, etc. They exposed 4 different individuals who owned homes. 1 of those 4 had lost his job over a year back, and his wife didn't even know!! Tax free of course... how he got around that, who knows.
Thankyou Peter for pricking our consciences I always buy a big issue. I feel that is the least I can do after once seeing a programme all about it. Bless you Peter Your kindness shines out as usual
When I lived in Texas I got in the habit of giving a dollar or two to a guy named Paul that stood at the same intersection every day. He had a dog with him, named Lucky, the same as my dog. He was a veteran that suffered from a leg wound. I do not know what he did with the money (drank it or fed himself), but I think of him often to this day. He was a good man.
This is a wonderful resolution Peter and I think that it was really great of you to present this to the world. We have a lot of homeless here and you just never know how people got into their situations. Happy New Year!!!

In San Francisco our homelessness is wide spread. There is a wide variety of homeless persons. Drug addicts, alcoholics, and mentally ill are probably a large percentage, however, some are just literally people hard pressed to deal with the cost of living in San Francisco and aren't able to move else where either. I doubt any of them prefer to be out on the streets and simply have no other choices.

This is a wonderful resolution Peter and I think that it was really great of you to present this to the world. We have a lot of homeless here and you just never know how people got into their situations. Happy New Year!!!

I must admit that if I have money in my pocket I will hand it out. I know I could do a lot more. Thanks for sharing, Peter and Happy New Year. Teresa
