  • AAAAALLLLLLLLL..........DAYYYYYYYY

  • All of Brother Theodore's TV appearances on YouTube are from David Letterman. Would like to see some of his appearances on Merv Griffin, Dick Cavett or Johnny Carson from the 60's and 70's.

  • Theodore was going to "Theodorize" the world. A pun of sorts.

  • What did he say he was going to do the world? I NEED to know!!!!!

  • Brother T was a very bright man and interestingly, Einstein was a family friend when Theodore was a child.

  • People, we need more Brother Theodore videos on YouTube! Whoever has any more material somewhere, please upload it.

  • @vcalblas I agree, but i think we also need more people like Brother Theodore as well

  • it's charles martinet's douple ganger! D:

  • Greatest show on earth. RIP Theodore.

  • does anyone have the clip of brother theodore saying, "David, you do not sell roses at a jewish fish market!"

  • What a brilliant comedian! And such a facinating man. And what an incredible life. RIP Brother Theodore, you were one of a kind.

  • hahahaha

  • Rainn Wilson, from "The Office" actually says that he was in the crowd during this. He was a student then...I think.

  • Letterman always had those pathetic one- liners

  • His voice scared me sooooo much as a kid when I watched the Hobbit. I love the Andy Serkis one when it comes to the pitiful side, but when it comes to being scary and mysterious like he was in the Hobbit Brother Theodore's always going to be haunting me. RIP dude.

  • Brother Theodore was the *best* recurring guest Letterman ever had on that show. I would get totally stoked when he'd come on. A very unique kind of comedy that was perfect for the great vibe the show had back then.

  • He played as Gollum from 1977's Hobbit!

  • God, he was great! No one like him today - He outdoes 99% of the comic riffraff that's doing standup today. LONG LIVE BROTHER THEODORE!!

  • When he was on Letterman, I was in college and I got his home phone number. We talked a few times for an interview and he was great - nice, funny, etc. He loved Letterman, who played stupid on purpose - Theo wanted that type of response. That was Letterman's brilliance - he really loved complicated humor. Yeah, Letterman today is another late nite talking head, but Letterman then was outstanding for finding the oddballs of humor. Theo never would have been seen outside Manhattan without him.

  • Yeah, well I got his SSN. Beat that.

  • Anyone got this whole clip? I want more!

  • Well, at least Letterman had him on. Do you think Leno would?

  • I doubt that even Letterman would have him on today. The show has gotten so safe since he went to CBS...

  • Brother Theodore was a comic genius. And a facinating man. I won't go into his life here, but he was a survivor of the Holocaust and in his later years was afflicted with debilitating disease. But he never lost his sense of humor. What a man he was.

  • HOW did Orson Welles respect Brother Theodore? Falling to his knees (crash!) and worshipping him?

  • Like to impersonate Br. Theodore in this moment at parties... everyone freezes when I do!

  • This guy was like Schopenhauer meets George Carlin. A true legend.

  • Pfff, are you kidding me? He was obviously a comedian.

  • Yeah, I know that now, but I've lived with people with dementia and this looks a lot like it in some ways.

I used to think -- what if this guy isn't acting and someone is making a load of money off their demented old uncle?

I've since found out that he led a pretty amazing life

His headstone has an inscription that reads "As Long As There is Death, There Is Hope"

  • Wow... Watching all these Brother Theodore clips, I realize that ALL of David's jokes or comebacks are just comments on Theodore's appearance. David was incapable of matching wits with Theodore.

  • I have never seen a more perfect complement to Letterman's deadpan style than Theodore, ever. Are you blind to comedy? That moment right there is an example of near absolutely perfect symbiosis of two intelligent comedic styles that combine to be even funnier.

  • LOL! I remember seeing this one when it first aired! So awesome. Dave used to just be incredible with the guests he would get- but Theodore was probably my favorite.

  • This guy was way ahead of his time. GOLLUM, GOLLUM.

  • Theodore was great. It's incredible to see all this material again after all these years. Amazing.

  • your description is so wrong

  • My description is 3/4 fact. It's only my opinion that he was the funniest man to escape Dachau. If there's been a competition and somebody won, let me know.

  • Brother Theodore

    R.I.P.

    You are a legend

  • Brother Theodore 1, Letterman 0
