Starting college this week after 8 years of not being in school, this is helping me a lot as far as remembering things I forgot over the years, or learning new things I never learned (or instantly forgot)
I think it would help allot morelocating videos was easier for s who want help with the courses their taking. Youtube has tags... usem with keywords your trying to explain from the videos dude
Thank you! I have forgotten all this stuff from school, but now my kids are doing Algebra and Trigonometry, so I am trying to understand their homework so that maybe I can help them. I've also got my kids doing Khan Academy. It's fantastic.
41 going through it trying to understand my college algebra instructor. I decided to study alone. I find it hard to be instructed by others and this helps me pace myself on my own time. He is very clear and understandale!!!
At about 7:40 he says that -2x-2x-2 = -8 can someone help me i got kinda confused because i thought that if you multiplied a negative by a negative then yopu get a positive? I would be greatful for some help/
@iSmiffy95 There are three negative numbers being multiplied there. If u multiply a negative by a negative it gives you a positive but since there are three numbers there's another negative number left. so the sum of a negative into a negative is positive so a positive multiplied by another negative is negative. :) Hope this doesnt confuse you even more. :)
my math teacher ALWAYS thought i was to stupid to get an A so i decided to actually study for my next test and at the time i was never paying attention in class i never understood what we were doing in class so i asked my friends to teach me wat they learned and i thought they sucked at teaching... so i found this and BAM!!!!! i actually got a B+ on my test usually i got Ds and Fs. u shoulda seen that look on her face!! but at first she thought i cheated >:(
This is great! I usually ace my math tests, but if I don't understand something... I REALLY don't understand it. I used to freak out- but once I discovered this guy.... well I don't stress about math anymore!
(Like)(Like)(Like) = like to the third power. You get to the ROOT of many of the problems people have with FRACTIONAL and NEGATIVE exponents. Therefore I give this video a very POSITIVE rating!
This is great but I think showing that you're taking the square root of a number is how you're getting to your answer would help. Also, a quick review of how to take the square root of a number would probably help some people. I really liked the variety of problems you showed. Thank you.
@MrRasgabriel LMAO.... Join the Club.. Let me guess you came from level 2 to this also? Then you were suddenly thrust through the atmosphere. Mind still fried from level 2. You heard what I heard, "Space the Final Frontier" in a booming voice. Then accelerated through space at warp speed. I know the feeling, luckily I took Astrology 100 this quarter. I can explain to everyone also aboard what a binary system looks like. lmao
this guy is so good! I've struggled with, and hated math all my life! it's never made sense to me and now i'm actually kind of enjoying it! thank you so much! this helped a lot!
its under the self-adaptive math program, which is at the top of the page. You have to work up to them from basic addition. The programs a little flawed and limited at the moment but hes working on it..
I'm so grateful that this person exists and helps us mere mortals. I've been out of high school for 15+ yrs and college 10+ yrs. Needless to say I've forgot the basics. This has been so helpful for me to study for the GMAT. I feel alot more confident now about taking the exam.
Your math presentations are very good. They will help the students, who are afraid of raise questions in class, consult them and learn by him/herself.
At the beginning of this presentation, if you say that "4 to the power 1 = (4 to the power 1/2) x (4 to the power 1/2). That's how it becomes 'which number times itself equals 4?", then the intuition may become a bit clearer. :-)
I have a problem with the second-to-last problem; in all his videos before this one, whenever he converts an integer to a fraction or converts a fraction to it's negative, he makes the numerator the negative number, but in this example, he breaks that rule and makes the denominator the negative number.. why?
If you mean (-8)^(-1/3), converting the integer -8 to the fraction -1/8 is just flipping the -8 over by distributing the negative sign in the power. Then, in converting (-1/8)^1/3, he skips a step in that that 1 raised to ANY power is 1. But you still have (1^(1/3))/(-8^1/3), which is the same.
Khan Academy (the page that is not on youtube) has a "free, adaptive math program available here" link that will allow you to work through problems related to the videos.
Could you give me some hint as to how this will relate to Computer Programming? It's not that I don't like it, I'm just wondering how all my Math skills will benefit me after I become an MCSP (computer professional).

why did the negative go to the bottom of the fraction from the top at 7:14 ?
prisat32 6 months ago
@prisat32 you cannot have a negative exponent, so you must bring it to the top or the bottom depending on the initial location if it is negative.

what if i get a question such as 135 1/8, how will i be able to do that?
babarfirasat 11 months ago
@babarfirasat if you got 135 1/8, then you do 8√135. (8 is the index). then you just work it out and you get 3 8√5. (again, 8 is the index)

16 written out as a fraction, but un-flipped would have the 16 set as the numerator or denominator?

@EpicXI 16 by itself is the same as 16 over 1, so 16 is the numerator, with 1 being the denominator. Hope that helped!

Could anyone solve : -8^-3 ?
Khan brushed it off.
crumcon 2 years ago
so if you have a negative exponent. you flip it?
-1 over 8 to the power of 3
= -1/8 · -1/8 · -1/8 = -1/512
negative 1 over 512
its negative because a negative times a negative times a negative is a positive
kozes 2 years ago
n^-k = 1/n^k, then,
= -8^-3
= -1/8^3
= - 1/512
fg1i 2 years ago
Yeah dude, I got that -8^-3 is the same as (-1/8)^3 which works out to -1/512

How did (4/9)3/2 power become ((4/9)1/2) power?
Could you give me some hint as to how this will relate to Computer Programming? It's not that I don't like it, I'm just wondering how all my Math skills will benefit me after I become an MCSP (computer professional).

vickiormindyb 3 years ago
I think you meant to say: How did (4/9)3/2 power become ((4/9)^(1/2)*3.
All he did was take out the 3 and put it on the outside of the power, try it, what is 1/2 times 3? You will see it is the same as (4/9)^3/2
