  • Lovely version sir! Class!

  • I like your version...would like to know more about Annie, I knew her on the markets about twenty years ago...I have never heard her sing....this is an ode to her...it would be great to hear her too dont you think....

  • Nice work! You need to calm those "playing live jitters" though, it's a bit on the fast side.

  • Thanks

But I outgrew the "playing live jitters" about 30 years ago ;-)

My version is meant to be that speed

  • I fell in love with this song while traveling through Scotland a few years ago. A young kid showed up at "Bothy Night," and sang this song. The rest of the program was dire, but the kid--and the song--blew me away. I scribbled the words I could make out on a napkin. Then, when I got back to the States, I scoured the internet to find the song. Today I found your version and think it's the best of them all. Lovely. Thanks. Betsy

  • thanks for those very kind words, much appreciated.

    It's a great song

  • That's how most people find Richard Thompson, by accident, and it blows them away! =)

  • Awesome Gerry !! love it , gonna do my best to be at your xmas gig at The Junction :-)

    See you at Korks

    ADAM G

  • Cheers for that

    Hope to see you soon

  • very good

  • The first time I heard this song was at a pub in Donegal when I was 12 yrs old with my father. My dad and I fell in love with the song back then. I love RT's version, but nothing could top the guy in the bar 15 years ago. I am 27 now and my father passed recently. This song means a lot to me and I have been searching for that perfect take on this song ever since I was 12. This one is pretty darn close. Nice work.

  • Thanks for the lovely comments.

  • Great stuff Gerry. Nice one.

  • neat version , love the pace of it, only RT can do it slow and keep it interesting. Didnt like Christy Moores version, changing words and a few other bits ,but love most of his stuff.I do a bar chord rocky version ...purely for my own enjoyment.Keep on rockin in the free world...what Bush has left of it.

  • Gerry love this song best version on YTube

  • Nice version!

    It's a great story huh?

  • Thanks for your comments. A great story indeed

  • I like the simplicity of your accompaniment. I've been working on doing like RT does for quite a while now, and it's really hard. It' nice to hear other takes on it.

  • Lovely version - the sing a longs are great !
