  • this would be a better video if the video and audio weren't off, but oh well, it's still great to listen to :)

  • They put billy over on the other side...the yes of today would die to get Billy as a front man.....just like chris wanted in 89'!!!

  • This is horrible.

    Sheesh!!!!

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE time in life for YES.

    YUK YUK YUK.

  • @fib112358

What do you think of 'Tribute yes"????

  • My fav YES song.

  • Yes, I heard about Jon falling off a ladder and hurting his back. Is that why they called one of their albums "The Ladder"?

  • Trevor sings lead here as he is the main songwriter of this. He wrote it himself as a solo piece, Roger added to it. Then later, when Yes used it for "Talk", Jon added his 2 cents so to speak, but the main foundation, both music & lyrics, is Trevor's. The demo is on Trevor's 2003 record, "90124"..with Trevor singing lead & Roger singing background vocals.

  • Last great album by Yes! I hope Anderson Rabin Kaye Bruford Levin form a band

  • I could watch Chris Squire play bass all day.

  • @dufortrph yes but the 80s, 90s, and 00s were tame time for him, for the most part... im hoping this new album will be something... even though ive enjoyed every album yes ever released...

  • From Wikipedia:

Fortunately, one broadcast of the single had been heard by David Letterman while driving: impressed, and unaware of the source of the single, he had immediately taken steps to find out more about the "new band" who had performed it in order to have them appear on his show. Yes performed on Late Night with Letterman on 20 June 1994, just days into their 1994 Talk tour, performing the song "Walls" (co-written with Roger Hodgson)

  • @rawleypoint They were in Rochester NY the night before. I saw them there. Chris was wearing the same outfit both nights. lol

  • That's Tony Kaye on keyboards, the original keyboard player before Rick. Trevor Rabin, on guitar, is actually the lead vocal on this song.

  • Okay, that was obviously not Rick on keyboards...who is that?

Totally lovin' what Jon was wearing...too bad I couldn't really hear him...he's usually up front doin' what he does best...I knew he'd injured his back...but considering I'm a singer too, I know there's back muscles that help the diaphragm do what it does, so if his back was hurting...I can see why he'd do rhythm guitar and accompanying vocals.

  • @druidkat7 That´s the original keyboard player, Tony Kaye.

  • @druidkat7 It was Tony Kaye..he's been the Keyboard player for Yes for the past 25 years.Rick was playing in the 70's with Yes.

  • This is one of my favorite Yes songs, next to Owner Of A Lonely Heart and Leave It.

  • Talk, was in my opinion, the best Album of the Rabin era. It was released on an independent label, after that Union debacle. I admit I loved the Reunion concert, but the 2 (actually 3) Yeses need to be kept apart.

  • Jon had injured his back in the early nineties. Then he fell off the back of the stage Yes was rehearsing on. His face looked puffy or swollen even on the KTA dvd recorded in March 96. Weight gain or a bloated appearance is a side effect of steroids. In 2002 Jon was decorating his home for X-mas when he fell off the ladder.

  • Didn´t know he´d had fallen before.

A few days before felling off the ladder in 2002, he also tripped over some monitors and fell on the stage while performing "CTTE" at Universal Amphitheater.

  • Jon weight was due steroids he taking for a broken back.

  • Jon injured his in december 2002.

He fell off of a ladder while assembling a Christma´s tree.

  • Simplesmente Maravilhoso!!

  • Trevor Rabin rocks, not only as a guitarist, but as a keyboard player too... I love this album. Talk has to be one of the best Yes albums. Live it was awesome as well.

  • Don't think they did "The calling" at least on air. But Dave heard "The calling" single in his car and asked to have them on the show! And yes this YES line up kicks ass Trevor is so bad ass with andersons high voice he has a step up that trevor doesn't and together it's great as well as his punching pop hooks all his songs have been the hits, Lift me up, owner of a lonely heart, love find a way, Walls/ Roger Hodgson Talk is the best of the 3 together

  • I didn't know Yes did Lettermen either! Wow what a treat! Thanks for this video, made my day, outstanding underappreciated song and album, and both are very much loved by me!

  • I remember them performing on Letterman in support of this album, but I recall them playing "The Calling", unless they did two performances that night.

And what's with that spaz Paul Schaffer in the background? Couldn't they get him off the stage and let Yes perform by themselves?

  • Wow was Jon overweight around this time! Good thing he got in better shape not long after this in time for SLO and beyond. You can't tell a difference in his voice though - it's awesome as ever.

  • I missed this - thanks so much for sharing! One of my favorite YES songs from that era!

  • I think the 90s are a completely unique generation but quite forgotten, this song is a classic of the time

  • I always thought that the beginning of the verses sounded like Richard Marx.

  • Actually the song was co-written by Roger Hodgson from Supertramp

  • I remember seeing this when it was broadcast. I was so ticked because I did not have a spare VCR tape to record it on. So glad its uploaded here. Thanks!

  • I think all of you dissing the recent tour haven't been reading the reviews closely enough. Saw them with Asia 7/8/09 in San Diego and it was, for the most part, a kick-ass concert. Benoit's vocals were spot-on; the only problem was the dumbass sound man not miking Alan's drums or Oliver's keyboards enough. I've been a fan of Yes since early '72 & a fan of Letterman since he went on the air & didn't know til now that they'd ever appeared on his show. This is fantastic!

  • this is great

from the last album with Trevor Rabin

he left the band, and the fame is gone with he...

I think Talk is one of the best albums

  • If they had done "The Calling" here instead of "Walls" the 90s might have gone totally differently for the band.

  • I was just watching the Binghampton bootleg and when Jon introduces this song he tells the crowd 'We'll be playing this Monday night on Letterman'. So I figured it the video existed it would be here on YouTube. haha. Thanks for posting.

  • The next day he also mentioned the´re on Late Show. I have both concerts and the second one is far away one of the best Yes boots ever, amazing sound quality. Thanks for bringing up.

  • Didn't know there were two. The one I have has a good FM audio feed, but a few video blank spots during the first set I've posted most of it on YT. It's the one where Jon forgets the lyrics to And You And I (which I saw him do at the HOB in LA too. haha.) Is that the first or second show?

BTW: You can fix the sync on this by running it through the AnyVid Converter.

    Later. :-)

  • The first indeed is from FM but has some flaws, the second called "Endless Dream" is soundboard, amazing quality. He forgets the lyric all the time. LOL. I guess I can´t fix the video otherwise I´ll lose the coments, right?

  • I posted an ELP a while ago that was out of sync. When I figured out how to fix it I just posted it again and linked it to the first one as a response. That way I didn't loose any comments. This is cool though.

    Baraka

  • I´ll probably do it, meanwhile I hope Youtube provides us this fuction to correct it. I´ll see them in a couple fo weeks in California. Are you going?

  • Probably not. I friended Jon on Myspace and had a chance to read the blog he posted just after the guys moved on without him. He has since deleted it but it was real a tell-all... and quite angry in a Jon sort of way. He conceded that it was a necessary move, but Steve n Chris' methods were pretty core.

I luv this band. They've been part of my life since '73. But Yes sans Jon isn't really Yes. Not is the replacement is just a clone. Drama was good, but Horn was at least doing his own thing.

  • Ooops. I meant "Not IF the replacement etc..."

  • There´s certainly more things behind backstage that we don´t know about that argument Jon had with the rest of the band. I´m pretty sure they´ll work things out like they´ve been doing since 70´s.

  • Wasn't a fight. Jon got sick and they dumped him. It was pretty calloused... not very Yes-like.

I think Chris owns the name which is why he is the only one on every album. and why ABWH wasn't just called Yes.

They need something new and unique. Not the same old prog motif..

Drama was good because they did something different.(at the time. anyway.) and didn't try to just redo the past. They don't need a clone, but some new blood, someone totally different than Jon, but still Yes-like.

  • To be honest I´m going to listen to Drama stuff, mostly Chris and Howe´s tunes which were potent on this incredible album. I don´t care about the Benoit guy, also the Wakeman´s son is ruining all the classics, it seems that he never listened to his fathers recordings, unbelievable. Why he doesn´t struggled a bit to make an honest performance?

  • ditto. and thank you for your channel, btw

  • Is this still the case? I haven't been able to keep up in a while and wondered if Jon had recovered enough to come back.

  • Yes is currently touring without him. And I believe Jon is doing his own thing now. I can't foresee him rejoining but they've surprised me before.

  • Great video. One of my favs on this album. I like TR a lot, forgive me SH. This song is very like Roger Hodgson, who co-wrote with Trevor Rabin.

    thx

  • Not enough close ups of Jon

  • Not enough closeups of Billy Sherwood! ;-)

  • Chris Squire is THE greatest bass player. He makes the band. Even when Yes sucks he still shines.

  • neone who says they dislike this knows in their heart its brilliant. fair enough the album may have been slightly 'overproduced' but i think its one of Yes' best and v inspired. saw this in 94 in the US when i was bout 8 yrs old with my dad. i fell asleep but it looked like jon was wearing a karate suit!

  • This song and album kicked righteous ass. Thanks Trevor! Saw them at Red Rocks on this tour!!! Great album!!

  • this is a ver great song, from a superb album of the Rabin era..I always think that Talk was, after 90125, the best album this line up made.

Big Generator was ok...but didn't have the production and incredible tracks these two albums have

  • Nice boots CS!!

  • Talk was a supremely underrated CD and one of the band's best. Trevor dominated the CD byt writing most of the songs, played guitar, keyboards and even some bass on it. The songs were great but I guess grunge took away too much limelight. The tour was thus poorly sold and Trevor left the band in 1995.

  • yes...i am totally agree with you !...I think that ones of the best problems Yes has faced since Union (promoted by Arista) is that they have become a sort of indie prog band with non-big production labels..Victory records, in this case, never gave the proper support for the album and the tour !!

  • Oh God, YES searching for a hit & sounding like a bad typical 80's Pop group. Pla-leaze. Kill me now.

  • c'mon, admit it...this is great stuff!

  • Naw, YES were to good to have to endure parts that 80's studios mentality. Survival & creativity are two different worlds. This was a survival period

  • they always look like each of them is wearing about 45 pounds of clothing

  • I dont like Trevor Rabin with Yes..!!

  • Then don't listen :)

  • i wish this friggin line up would get back together and record another long awaited yes album

  • This is such a great song and album. Rabin's best with Yes IMO. I'm so glad I am one of the 6 people that actually bought it.

  • make that 7 :)

  • ...and 8

  • Who's the man wearing a white suit and sunglasses at 0:12 to 0:18 ??? Looks like a band director or backgroud vocal director

  • This is Paul Paul Shaffer, musical director of the David Letterman show.

  • muzikmann2728 that,s billy sherwood a good friend of chris squire the bass player

  • I remember watching this when it happened! I was pissed because I couldn't find a tape to get it in time. Thank god for youtube and people have this stuff and share it. A million thanks for one of my favorite bands of all time!

  • Okay, what's wrong with the sound here? Out of sinc... anyway, so cool to see them on American tv.

  • walls Talk to the walls post katrina biloxi it's a hopeless situation as we arrive at the launching site, freedom of information act to seal my heart.

  • Didn't know about this - Hard to picture Yes on Letterman

  • the "other" guitarist is Billy Sherwood

Jon was going thrue his "fat" period here

and Trevor is the lead singer of "walls" so thats why they arn't concentrating on Jon-He mustv'e worked out because he looked great in new york a few days ago.some 14 years later.

  • There is a guy to the left of the band in a playing an Ovation guitar. Looks like Joe Elliott from Def Leppard. I'm trying to figure out why he would be there. There is no connection with Yes and Def Leppard. They're really opposite ends of the spectrum. Don't think Yes would have any respect or want to be on the same stage with a member of Leppard. It may not even be him, I don't remember what the Letterman band looked like in that era. If anyone knows I'd be interested.

  • Mediocre song, totally unconvincing middle-of-the-road performance. It is a shame to see how the band lost itself, and a blessing to see how they resurrected in the new millenium.

Did Anderson ask the camera guys to *not* focus on him (for a change)?

Musically least unexciting seconds: 2:20-2:35. Reminds a bit of 'Yes'.

  • Everything from YES is great, specially from the Trevor Rabin´s years wich is my favourite phase.

  • He's not married to the Ric. I like that ridiculous triple bass he uses sometimes.

  • I think that the triple is amazing, in fact it causes quite a stir in the beggining of Awaken and Chris slowly turns around and shows the imponent gear. The audience go crazy.

  • Chris Squire without his Ric? You don't see that too often.
