@illboy6 rightly so, because how on earth is not believing in god, having more critical thinking and reason in a society wrong or even slightly wrong. You can't make a case for the end of atheism, but you can make a huge strong case for the end of faith.

@illboy6 No, there really wouldn't. The only way to end atheism would be to provide final evidence for a particular religion and its claims.
So it wouldn't offend the average atheist to have a religious person tell them that atheism has come to an end, while failing to prove that a snake can talk without a voice box, or that one man can round up two of every living thing on earth, including each of the hundreds of thousands of species of beetle.
@matt3483 i wasnt really trying to say it would disprove something i was saying that the mainstream media would make it out be like christians are trying to personally attack atheism
@illboy6 Way off. When it comes to this topic, it's never the atheists that call for fatwas against novelists. It's never the atheists that riot against cartoonists. It's never the atheists that send authors death threats. Unless a "huge uproar" is a snarky op-ed in a magazine, atheists are ALWAYS the ones who turn the other cheek. The religious tell us our whole lives that their God will have us tortured forever for our opinions, say they'll pray for us, then think they're the good guys.
@CoachMcGuirk11 thats the biggest bullshit i've ever heard, ever heard of Bill Maher? There are several atheists that attack religion whenever they get the chance, don't act like the atheists are the victims of everything.
@illboy6 You obviously missed his whole point. Bill Maher committing blasphemy is a victimless crime. It's not like Bill Maher is out in the streets pulling christians from there homes and beating them. Blasphemy hurts nothing except religious people's feelings, and since the religious have been committing and calling for BODILY harm to people for centuries, they can suck it up, shut the fuck up, and deal with people talking shit on their delusional fantasies.
"flying planes into our buildings for patently religious reasons"
Or were the reasons partially, or mostly, economic? I would think (expect) that the most reasonable American Methodist or liberal Unitarian might be prone to such irrational behaviors given certain circumstances, like an outside govt subverting our political process as we have done in the Middle east and Arab nations.
Good books, and thought provoking discussion. Thank you.

@gggrow Tibetans don't have oil and rich mineral deposits. The tyrants in the middle east are propped up and get wealthy by the CIA and taxpayer money. Michael Schauer has written extensively on this in his books. Blaming religion for the 911 attacks is absurd and a cop out from critically examining such a complex situation. Even Paul Wolfowitz has written about the motivation of militant Islamic people. There will always be terrorism w/ or w/o religion.
But all of the 9/11 hijackers had PhD's and were living comfortable middle class lives. If the West's misguided adventures in the Middle East are responsible for triggering these attacks, and not their religious convictions, then where are the Tibetan suicide bombers/terrorists? Tibet has suffered a tyrannical rule under the boot heel of Chinese imperialism every bit as oppressive and violent as Western imperialism in the Middle East.
