Thank you so much for posting the entire episode, each section played perfectly for me.
Most interesting stories. I'm sure David is thrilled to know the backgrounds of his ancestors but is awestruck at what they did to overcome such harsh conditions. I thank them, because if they hadn't had the courage, we may never have had such a wonderful Poirot, and the actor named David. Such interesting and inspiring stories from several of his ancestral lines. Good show!
Still not working... Stops at 2:26. No matter how long I let it buffer, it won't start again. LOVED this show, but missing out on the end is so disappointing!
@marykozy I'm sorry to hear but I'm afraid I can't do it better. It works on my pc. Have you tried to download it, it might be able to run if you can download the whole part...

Suchet was the last to know that his name is just a common Hebrew word, mispronounced! Lithuania has always been Lithuania--it was controlled by Prussia, and Russia, but was not IN Prussia or Russia. Jews were basically not allowed to live in Russia itself. "Jewish" is not only religion, but also a national identity. The Russian empire always marked the nationality of Jews as Jewish. Many jews lived in Turkey. Turkey controlled Israel at this time, and many Jews lived there then too.
That was awesome! I get frustrated sometimes watching... I'm like "FIND BELIA's gravesite!" "Walk thrut he cemetery with Ruth to see if other stones have the name on it!" LOL!!! But very very enjoyable. Better than a made for tv mystery, because it's true!
The shokhet /shekhita is the butcher who slaughters cud-chewing animals in a ritual manner, also accepted in islamic lands as halal. This may have been what allowed them to cross borders and nationalities.
Thank you for posting this. I enjoyed watching this and following David Suchet on his research. I agree that BalkanScholar and Ellison1965 should touch base with David Suchet and prompt him to look into the connection with Tsfat, Israel. David Suchet should be brought back to the show to for this.
Thank you ever so much for uploading this program on David Suchet. The discoveries were clearly very meaningful for him. And he is so sweet, humble, and unassuming. He embraced this adventure with so much enthusiasm and respect. Although DS may have been told by now, BalkanScholar and Ellison1965 should touch base with David Suchet and prompt him to look into the connection with Tsfat, Israel - what an amazing journey for his ancestors.
@AmmasJemima The BBC should have another episode with David Suche. Maybe he will find an ancestor who was an actor or actress too. He forgot about that when he started on his photogapher grand father's side. He should went the place in Rusia that was noted on his great grand parents on his mother's side as noted on their marriage certificate. He also should have a DNA test done to see what parts of Europe and the middle east his ancestors lived.
The researcher needs to give a refund. She says Tsfat is not listed as a town in Turkey. Well, there is a town called Tsfat (zafed) in Israel, which in the 19th century was part of the Turkish empire. So David Suchet has more digging to do.
@Balkanscholar I agree. It is altogether possible that his Great-grandfather was born in Safed (Tsfat) esp. since the town had an influx of Russian Jews in the late 1700s. It's worth investigating.

Mr. David Suchet, "that free spirit" . . . that's thrilling to me too, good sir.
Gratitude to all those generations whose lives eventually led us to the blessed company of David Suchet. It is a fine time to be alive.

This would have been impossible before the break up of the Soviet Union. What a luxury it is to be able to cross borders for one's research.

Family names and identities restored and honoured. If they had only known, I'm sure that they would be happy with what David has done.

Let me know if it still doesn't work for you, you too, tritonjames, I might be able to find another solution for you, in case.
But it seems it might be something on your own computers that blocks, maybe something temporarily with your net connection or on You Tube.
