  • This has been one of my absolute favorite songs of anyone's since Dan first released it. For me it's a rarity to hear someone interpret someone else's work (in this case the Hollies) and think "they nailed this one and I like it far better than the original". But Dan and Tim did it in spades on this song. For me, it's a perfectly crafted song. Thanks so much to pre10der76 for posting this video.

  • Barry (Byrd) Burton on guitar. RIP

  • Yes, that is Joe Vitale on Flute and Congas.

  • A good version for a Hollies' theme!

  • Hotel California

  • This is one fav from Dan.His arrangement of this song is a musical masterpiece! One of the coolest ever! I only had the chance to see him once at The Forum in Harrisburg,PA. (Remember "Face The Fire"?)I miss him greatly.

Three years ago today, the world lost a cherished voice...But Dan left behind a "Living Legacy" that will continue throughout the days of my own life, to the end of days.

  • Dan and his bands were such a huge gift in my youth! The creativity is just awe inspiring and eternal. There is no forgetting him.

  • Truly enjoy this video. One of my fav's.Anyone know where I can find TAB on this song.I try to copy off video but I'm just not that good.

  • Geeeeez. What they did with that tune!

It's funny how one forgets songs that were so important at one time.

  • I think the drummer in the background is Russ Kunkel who is now on tour with James Taylor and Carole King and has played on many many tours. Outstanding musician!

  • one of my favorites by dan/tim (and the hollies). however, many years later i noticed quite a similarity to laurindo almeida's 1963 "lounge"/bossa nova version of "misirlou" (listen and see what you think).

  • i sure miss him.. but his music lives as he does!! thanks for the post!

  • Yum! M88N's. Brighter than the TG's

  • Its me or this beautiful Song made by the Great Dan Fogelberg have an Spanish bet., better yet, a Flamenco bet ! its Great

  • Many might not realize that DF didn't actually write this tune. It was originally written and recored by The Hollies. Nevertheless it probably my favorite recording from Dan.

  • WOW!!! Thanks for sharing. I've missed him & his music.

  • ¡Thanks a lot for sharing to us this whole great concert!

  • thank you, keep coming back to this. Such passion and energy. Love the jazz chords and especially thankful for Joe Vitale... do so miss dan, grateful that you caught him very much alive

  • That's Barry Burton from The Amazing Rhythm Aces

  • Who is playing lead guitar at the end?

  • Thank you for this. Over eight minutes of an incredible performance!

  • beautiful.........

does anybody have the original (album) version of this song to post?

  • It's on the "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" CD (the same one as "The Power of Gold"

  • Photog163 thnx for posting the info. What I was wondering was if somebody has made a vid of the original to post online. I want to copy it onto my comp-- the feel on this one is kickin' but the quality is kind of fuzzy.

  • This song was WAY ahead of it's time!

The personal feelings are timeless, but think about how America has been LIED to for the last 8 years, and then apply the same lyrics. "Can't you tell me to my face?" = Bushco controlled right-wingnut media lying to the public about SO MANY things.

"You just took the coward's way to say GOODBYE. How would you feel here in my place?" = Bushco leaving Obama and co. to clean up the mess while so many Americans lose their jobs and/or homes.

  • dbag

  • I agree, Dubya certainly was a douchebag and all intelligent Americans that either lost family/friends in the illegal Iraq occupation or make less that 1 mil. a year are really hoping he goes to prison.

  • I agree as well.

Having said that, it's a song, I don't think it should be read into that much

  • what a great jam.....duelling guitars at 6:30 reminds me of the Eagles Hotel Calif. guitar duel

  • I have probably watched this 10 times......superb each time.

  • Is this song available on DVD format??

  • awesome heard it today on xm been a long time

  • hmm- heard it on sirius today when i got out of work. not really a fan of Dan Fogelberg, but this tune kicked ass, i thought.

  • anyone heard anything re: the tribute concert? Greg

  • Amazing, pre10der! Thank you again!

  • Thank you for sharing these great moments.

  • oops....I mean flute!

  • whoosh! A blast from the beautiful past. And Joe Vitale on fluet, who knew? Sounding quite good!

  • WOW!!! My favorite song from one of my all time favorite albums... Late 70's at Penn State... I close my eyes and I'm there!!!! Thanks a Million

  • It must be a Pennsylvania thing? I live in S.C. (Penn State.)Listening to Dan and looking out at the beauty of Central PA.. For me, it's a little piece of heaven!

  • per10der76 YOU ROCK!!! Thank you !!

  • Very cool! It's a OMG moment for me! This is one of my favorite's from Dan,even though he didn't write it. One of his musical influences,The Hollies penned the song. Dan put his magical touch to the song and made it own. The beginning is the sound of Tuscon,Arizona Gazette. Joe Vitale playing the flute? Mike Hanna, monster on the piano.Larry Burton on the guitar. They were smokin'on this song. Please remember Larry Burton, he passed away a few months ago. Great post and thanks!

  • @asquare176 I agree with all your words. Fantastic to see Fogelberg doing this live!! It's, in fact, my favorite, though originally, a Hollie song. Exquisite!! Brings back memories of those good old days when there was high quality music made & performed by really talented musicians. Yes, the mainstream now is diposable music..! The mainstream was to create, innovate, invent, not to follow a shallow disposable pop culture.

  • Way to go! Keep these gems coming.
