This has been one of my absolute favorite songs of anyone's since Dan first released it. For me it's a rarity to hear someone interpret someone else's work (in this case the Hollies) and think "they nailed this one and I like it far better than the original". But Dan and Tim did it in spades on this song. For me, it's a perfectly crafted song. Thanks so much to pre10der76 for posting this video.
This is one fav from Dan.His arrangement of this song is a musical masterpiece! One of the coolest ever! I only had the chance to see him once at The Forum in Harrisburg,PA. (Remember "Face The Fire"?)I miss him greatly.
Three years ago today, the world lost a cherished voice...But Dan left behind a "Living Legacy" that will continue throughout the days of my own life, to the end of days.
I think the drummer in the background is Russ Kunkel who is now on tour with James Taylor and Carole King and has played on many many tours. Outstanding musician!

one of my favorites by dan/tim (and the hollies). however, many years later i noticed quite a similarity to laurindo almeida's 1963 "lounge"/bossa nova version of "misirlou" (listen and see what you think).
Many might not realize that DF didn't actually write this tune. It was originally written and recored by The Hollies. Nevertheless it probably my favorite recording from Dan.
thank you, keep coming back to this. Such passion and energy. Love the jazz chords and especially thankful for Joe Vitale... do so miss dan, grateful that you caught him very much alive
Photog163 thnx for posting the info. What I was wondering was if somebody has made a vid of the original to post online. I want to copy it onto my comp-- the feel on this one is kickin' but the quality is kind of fuzzy.
The personal feelings are timeless, but think about how America has been LIED to for the last 8 years, and then apply the same lyrics. "Can't you tell me to my face?" = Bushco controlled right-wingnut media lying to the public about SO MANY things.
"You just took the coward's way to say GOODBYE. How would you feel here in my place?" = Bushco leaving Obama and co. to clean up the mess while so many Americans lose their jobs and/or homes.
I agree, Dubya certainly was a douchebag and all intelligent Americans that either lost family/friends in the illegal Iraq occupation or make less that 1 mil. a year are really hoping he goes to prison.
It is still hard to believe he passed. Jeanne has been kind enough to update some photos on Dan's website...there is a great photo and explanation of Dan ice skating (after his dx and treatment). He looks really great in it..even though he was weakened. Take a look. Greg
It must be a Pennsylvania thing? I live in S.C. (Penn State.)Listening to Dan and looking out at the beauty of Central PA.. For me, it's a little piece of heaven!
Very cool! It's a OMG moment for me! This is one of my favorite's from Dan,even though he didn't write it. One of his musical influences,The Hollies penned the song. Dan put his magical touch to the song and made it own. The beginning is the sound of Tuscon,Arizona Gazette. Joe Vitale playing the flute? Mike Hanna, monster on the piano.Larry Burton on the guitar. They were smokin'on this song. Please remember Larry Burton, he passed away a few months ago. Great post and thanks!
@asquare176 I agree with all your words. Fantastic to see Fogelberg doing this live!! It's, in fact, my favorite, though originally, a Hollie song. Exquisite!! Brings back memories of those good old days when there was high quality music made & performed by really talented musicians. Yes, the mainstream now is diposable music..! The mainstream was to create, innovate, invent, not to follow a shallow disposable pop culture.

I agree as well.
Having said that, it's a song, I don't think it should be read into that much
