I sang in the chorus of this production in san francisco, before it went to Washington. The tenor is Charles Castronovo, who was fantastic in this role; extremely consistent and lovely singing, which doesn't seem evident in this video. I think it was a bad day or maybe he wasn't feeling well, because he was glorious in each of the SF performances. He was also very friendly and modest throughout the run.
it KILLS me that I live in Southern California, and I have to go to San Diego to enjoy this beautiful opera! LA, OC and even Long Beach, where I live perform the same five tired warhorses constantly, but never this gem.
We did The Pearl Fishers 3 years ago, I love the music! My favorite duet and chorus songs ever! The end of the prayer to brahma is truly amazing, where the sopranos go up to a B flat and suspend it while the others go up by whole steps 4 measures from the end. I love it! It made me cry every rehearsal it was so beautiful.
I danced to an instrumental version of this at a ballet production in London in 1999, beautiful!

I don't understand why the Met doesn't produce an opera like this one. I'm tired to see
always the same, this music is divine.
