We learned all about reverence in church from the pious nuns back in Catholic school. Now you'll need nuns in combat boots. Those nuns would faint if they saw people coming up from the pews, using hand sanitizer on the altar, and giving out CITH, without anything to catch crumbs. How did this all happen. Who let it happen?
@sue200012 Vatican II and modernism and the enemies of the Church ushered it in, slowly and stealthily. I only go to the Tridentine Latin Mass for the last 10+ years.
Lefties like you have ruined the U.S. Church, with it's liberalism, non-piety, non-reverence and we will, through Almighty God's intercession, prevail, because it's right. The Right is Right. Period. Case closed. You all just want to stray and "keep with the times." Sounds great; but not in the Sacred Realm. Doesn't even work in the secular/Obama sheep's realm. Catholic Newt in 2012!
@ThankYouStFrancis Only consecrated hands are to touch the Sacred Species says St. Thomas Aquinas...Lay distributors was just another abuse as communion in the hand...same architects! Even the deacon MUST receive from the priest! Always receive from the priest, and better yet a priest who offers the traditional Latin Mass!
@ThankYouStFrancis The focus is on the Lord and Saviour, not your smile or human relationships with one another. I have never received from a EMHC because of the very attitude you have portrayed in your response. There should not be EMHCs at all.
The Parish I attend, with 500 communicants each Sunday High Mass, manages to distribute within 10 minutes, from one Priest. 10 minutes of silent and devout prayer, thanksgiving or spiritual communion is much more important than time efficiency.
Amen. Bring back the Communion rail. Then older people can have the support to raise themselves back up, otherwise, it's just too hard for some, even for me, and I'm only in my 50's. When I've gone to a parish where there is a rail, it's alwasy smooth, orderly and just as 'fast' if not moreso than the other way. It's too bad 'speed' has to be a factor, but with 5 masses on a Sunday, I understand. Just bring back the rail and all will be well.
@susiefromomaha We have a communion rail at our church and it's exactly as you say. It's not like the Novus Ordo Mess, but it is more than the rail... every Sacrament must be restored to it's proper form... Catechism must be restored to teaching Catholic teaching... all things must be restored to Christ!
All this is good but how can we be expected to kneel on the floor while in line? Bring back the rail to give us a place to kneel. Or either can we have one kneeler out of say 5 positions for eucharist ministers so that we can do it if we choose? I can't do it anyway as I am disabled, but they are making it I think purposefully difficult to be respectful during reception of the Eucharist.
@7propitious Why did they ever remove the Communion rails. Why did they even change anything in the first place? Once I questioned this, I decided to attend ONLY the Tridentine Latin Mass and I left the Novus Ordo Mess.
@kolbe1019 I agree completely. It's not about sharing feelings between the communicant and the Priest or even Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion but between the communicant and Our Lord. It's the complete submission and realization that the one present before you is Christ. By the way, the word is Extra -Ordinary (NOT Extraordinary) implies that they should not be the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

Thank you so much for posting this, kolbe. My pastor actually confronted me and asked me, "Why do you receive Communion on the tongue now?" Some actually seem to mock or show derision toward people who receive Communion this way. It's a shame.
The big problem is with the clericalization of the laity. Due to the flood of people promoting the "Do you own thing" mentality (which is based on moral relativism), there has been a great blurring of the lines. In my experience, in parish life, this leads to a very few parishoners holding leadership positions, which almost always leads to an underlying sense of power. This is power in the negative sense of controlling and not serving.
@ThankYouStFrancis agree with kolbe but would take it a step further: there is rarely a true need for extraordinary ministers so it is better to receive from the preist who is specially ordained to feed Christ' sheep.
amen to that...this is how we should receive our LORD and SAVIOR with reverence and free from mortal sins!

@ThankYouStFrancis You are thinking like a protestant. All EMHC need to be eliminated, everywhere, in the universal Church.

@mbukukanyau Kolbe's advice is true. It's not about the EMHC - it is about the Lord. The EMHC should not intrude, they should not get in the way.
Remember, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion should be safe, legal, and rare! =p =p =p
