  • what episode was the black chick on

  • LOVE THE SHOWS!

  • Check on the radio show on NPR...

  • This looks soooo cool......I just dont have showtime -__-

  • Hahahaa it is Ira not Eric. Seeeee all this time I thought he was saying ERIC.

  • can't really deny people their Judas hilarious

  • why would somone mark capburger's comment as SPAM?? i love "this american life" but i can still find that comment hilarious.... c'mon npr crowd, learn to laugh at yourselves.

  • I'm a Doctor in pulmonary science -- not an artist.

    I'm also a woman.

    Good stuff. Nice try.

  • I like your "cool jazz beat and the cherubic monotone of Mr. Glass" Nice line. It has a nice pop-art, fake erudition vibe. Kind of like it's a rip-off of somebody though, which I'm sure you mean as the sincerest form of flattery.

  • shut up. that's my style, however crude and rude it is.

  • a woman, eh? well, If you were a man, I'd say I'm sorry for telling you to kill yourself, but with statistics being the way they are....

    enjoy mental and personal mediocrity

  • Visually, this is sort of stylized, and maybe a little derivative of Errol Morris but they find great stories. Great stories are better than style, better than erudition.

  • *loads up wictionary*

you bastards and your frikkin languabilities...

  • you fruitcake. Today was the first time i've listened to this mans show after months of selfless advertisements, plugs, and congratulations. my first episode, and i'm hooked. for the first time, i think that people will get to hear the truth. he was right, he's doing something no one else is doing. Being HONEST. people are people, with many sides, and occasionally when you show real people talking, they might tell the truth...

    that SHOULD scare you.

  • I love his voice

  • me too! i listen to the podcast every week!

  • IRA GLASS FANS, i would love comments on my stories... Ira is an Inspiration

  • From public radio to private tv?

    Sorry, i dont get showtime.

  • This American Life is my absolute favorite program on NPR, yet I never heard of this. Pity I don't have Showtime.

  • No, dude. This American Life is practically the only thing good on Showtime. I've never seen such an enormous collection of obscure films in my life that I was paying for! About the only other good thing on this ding-bat cable channel was the tantamount s of soft-core porn! Just get the DVD's. They are worth every penny, man.

Plus, Ira is always free to listen to on NPR.

  • Hi Ira, I am usually saddened when anyone from the NPR waves moves into television or movies, but your trailer looks really nicely shot and retains the poetics, quirkiness & bareness of your radio show. Cheers mate!

-Hunter, the traveling cinema-by-bicycle guy, remember me?

  • Learn to spell.

  • I forgot about this account.

What was the comment? I know how to spell and I love This American Life.

There's a good chance I was being a smartass. Nice of you not to notice, should that be the case.

  • Meh, I was bored.

  • I love TAL radio programs, best content on the radio. I'm going to subscribe to ShowTime just to support this show.

  • TAL ROCKS!!!!

  • Last note was a reply to a stupid chain note.

This video isn't shit. I am curious to see the show.

  • The show certainly did not sell out its form to television. It's a masterpiece.

  • this is going to be a gem of a program compared to the awful plethora of bad crap out there already

  • Yes I'm so happy this is on tv cause the Radio show is really good!!

  • this is my favorite radio show, i hope the TV show stays true to itself and not sell out..haha.

  • I am a truckdriver for another month. the show has just ended and I did not get to see it. It is possibly the saddest moment of my life. I'm watching HBO, I drove 100 miles out of my way to get to a place that I could get cable for the night and they did not have HBO. I will catch it OnDemand later this week... no matter what. Ira Glass truly will save the world.

  • FYI - it's on Showtime, not HBO

  • great! it's gonna be on showtime where only a minute percentage of the actual American populace can watch it.

i, for one, love TAL, but ain't gonna pay $70 bucks a month for the pleasure. love this american life, hate the cable industry.

    why isn't this on PBS?

  • You could just watch it online on showtime's website you know. For free.

  • really? do you have a link?

  • Okay, I can't link to it, because youtube doesn't let me, but go to showtime's website (just google for showtime and you'll see it) click on This American Life, click Episodes, click Episode One, and then "Watch the full episode".

Although now I see it might only be the first episode in full. And parts of the other episodes.

Sorry, I really thought they were putting up every episode in full there, looks like I was wrong.

  • Wow, this looks amazing, especially the Soup Nazi-style chef, who made me clap out loud, just off this trailer clip. You could tell Ira Glass was inspired by some of those poetic CBS's Sunday Morning reports and Errol Morris, oh for sure! But This American Life seems more modern, irreverent and visually arresting than a typical, family-friendly Sunday Morning profile (which is where Errol's influence comes in).

I'm sure this series will live up to all the Metacritic (dot) com hype.

  • I gotta get showtime now. Ira Glass is going to save the world.

  • If the trailer is any indication it's gonna copy the MTV documentaries like true life, etc. In other words it's gonna blow.

  • ummm...Have you ever listened to This American Life on the radio? It's good. Very good. And I <3 Ira Glass

  • I am so happy you are doing this. Thank you.

  • I've been waiting for this. I have american life worthy stories...how do you get on the show?

  • Why the fuck do ppl post this shit?

  • Ira, you gotta interview Philip Glass! That would be awesome!

  • At a time when even the supposedly "educational" TV shows like those on Discovery or History have given over to the popular demands for edginess and fast pace, it's amazing to see something like this that actually connects people and examines the human situation.

  • I am so fucking excited I could pee my pants!

  • I must be the only person who thinks that every single episode of TAL is depressing and sad... I can't bear to listen to the radio show anymore, so no chance am I going to bother watching it on a screen.

  • No, you are not the only one! It is Ira Glass' voice. I love the radio show, but the whole thing hits a "sad" button in my head. I don't mean I dislike his voice, and I love the content. It is like that woman who used to have epileptic seizures when she heard Mary Hart's voice on Entertainment Tonight...it is physiological. I'm not sure I can stay away from the Television show. It seems really great.

  • Looks great! My DVR is ready.

  • i can't wait for this show ira is the best

  • It looks like it sounds... and it's pretty! I can't wait.

  • Does anyone know what the song playing in the background is?

  • Mark my words, this will be the best TV show ever, in all seriousness.

  • Love it. Cannot wait for this show.

  • Oh Ira, we'll never get enough of you.

  • Whoa. This trailer's got it. Yeah, I'd tune in Ira.
