  • What is the exact model of your drop bars?

  • Toronto rules

  • my daily commute to and from school is 50 whole miles! therefore i take my road bike and use my fixed gear for local transport :)

  • i love the fact that you can see the handlebars, the usual helmet cams video seems like it could be anything and not just a bike, with the handlebars in it seems much nicer.

  • was cool but i wish the camera was lower or higher, or at least raised the stem to film it

  • being able to see the horizon line would've been a better camera angle.

  • Realy good video, inspiring and calming at the same time

  • how do u hold ur camera?

  • @TheLeVanman

I have a camera mount that works by clamping on to tubes. It has a pivoting head so I can point it where I need.

Look for them at your local bike shop; ask for one.

  • buy some rollers and smooth it out!

  • I don't wanna feel like the rider's Dick... =(

  • what is chain tension? how do i avoid it?

  • @graffitiwar4 Ask google.

  • Nice vid :)

    Cool angle!

But why the drop bars? You dont seem to use the bottom part?

  • @Kiddowesth

    Thanks for watching.

I do use the drops but just not while filming. Straight bars are for mtb's.

  • Hey, I've recently got a new road bike I want to change it to a fixed gear, If I leave the brakes is there any drawbacks? It would be more hassle to take them off than leave them on as far as I can tell...

    Any help would be awesome.

  • @beep1234beeper the rear brake can be annoying as you will have to center the wheel between the brake shoes and get the right chain tension at the same time. But you will get the hang of it eventually.

  • it looks like your handle bars are sliding back and forth through the stem. just saying

  • yay for Do Make Say Think!

that makes me happy hearing them.

  • hey, i really like the vid, really cool, i should be getting a fixie soon and i dont ride brakess on my bmxrite now so that guy your fighting with can suck both ours!

  • I see alot of fighting in the comments, so lets make one thing clear: if a "child pops up in front of your bike" you wont be able to stop with or without brakes. And skidstops are actually very effective if the driver is experienced. And mr. "antifascist1" should stop being such a troll and go out in the sun and ride a bike maybe that would cheer him up :)

    keep on riding!

  • lighter bike.

  • A wicked Film. Very smooth.

  • Also nice viewpoint. Mr Happy's quite the cinematographer! ;-)

    Bianchi track bike in trans-celeste?

  • Great video, very positive. People who don't ride fixed don't get the 'no brake' thing it seems crazy if you don't understand you can stop the rear wheel through the drive train. I have a front brake (which I seldom use) on my fixie, and added a rear 2 years ago to be compliant with the HTA and for a triathlon I was in (brake lever on seat post, which I used only once to see if I could), but if you don't ride like an idiot and pay attention you can stop quick enough with no 'brake mechanism'.

  • such a soothing video, i love the bell on the handle bars, a really bright idea, im gonna do that too :)

  • I mounted my computer and bell on the stem. That way my hands can be anywhere on the bars. But not all computers are designed for this.

  • nice vid i can´t wait to ride my fixie in toronto! its such agood place for that! is that broken social scene?

  • Loved the video...Everyone should ride...The world would be a much better place.

  • Hypnotic

    @ @

    \~~~/

  • sexy pista bars

  • This is truly an enjoyable video.

However, I find the fact that a grown man can not post a video without recieving insulting comments incredulous.

    Keep riding brother.....

    Fuck anyone who says otherwise....

  • Amen

  • how is the name of the song and artist...

    great music

  • This is my typical ride to work from Cabbagetown to Queen W. and Dufferin st. Music is Do Make Say Think's song "Reirschule" from the album & Yet & Yet.

look at the information nerd :D

  • sick vid it was great also word of advice move ur handle bars to the left a bit there kindof uneven

  • i think because the lens is off set to the left but the camera body is in the middle it gives the illusion it isn't even, but you can see when he turns right it's even

  • verrrrry relaxing ride vid.

    music's GREAT, too.

    thanks for this.

makes me want to get doubled on your handlebars...

    : )

  • What type of camera are you using?

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he used the new DickVision Mini camera.

  • @veryperson Sorry, it's the TestiCam

  • I got into Do Make Say Think because of this video.

  • i guess i'll add that i ride fixed with a front brake. i'm not making any judgment when i ask how do you stop/ride efficiently? seems like it would severely slow you down among traffic, etc when you had to preplan every stop. just wondering.

  • cool video. stupid question, but how did you dub the music over? i've been wanting to do this with my commute to work but not sure how to dub music over.

  • What a cool video and the music really finishes it off. Just the thing before my dark Friday night ride home. Singlespeed (but not fixed -yet)

    UK rider....

  • nice video and great song! well done going brakeless, some people have no idea what they're talking about.

  • very nice.

  • I honestly thought a video about someone commuting to work on their bike would be free of insults!

What's wrong in the world. Can't 2 people discuss a difference of opinion without the insults??!!

Nice video, by the way! You're so lucky to have nice wide streets in the US; In the UK the roads are REALLY narrow in comparison and cyclists are treated really badly by most drivers!!

    Stay Safe!

  • Toronto, Canada

  • Where cyclists pray that summer falls on a weekend.

  • If he feels comfortable riding brakeless then what the fuck is the problem? I don't feel comfortable riding brakeless...so I have a brake.

    Nice video bro! Ride safe!

  • I cant belive you are actually arguing with me... Stay fixed, but get some brakes.

Not fucking use of being brakeless, except for the hipster-shit statement.

  • I've been riding my fixed wheel since before you had hair on your dick! Don't tell me whats what.

  • Hey genius, you might be riding fixed gear since long ago, that doesnt change the fact that if something pops up in front of your bike like a child, you wont be able to stop in time.

Riding a brakeless bike in urban areas is just plain stupid, whether it is fixed gear or not.

Give me one good reason on why you shouldnt have at least a front brake.

  • Never needed it. Never hit anyone. Got strong legs. Plan ahead. Not a jerk on my bike.

I really hope I don't "bump" into you on my ride; you might get hurt.

  • @furniturepimp : you can plan ahead all you want but if a car pops up in front of you or a child or a pedestrian suddenly crosses the street then you won't be able to stop in time. I agree with antifacist1, it is totally pointless to ride around with no brakes. What's the idea behind having no brakes? Other then that: nice commute, looks fast.

  • @antifascist1 barspins

  • @antifascist1 if you're a strong rider you can stop just as fast with your legs. Think about the strength of your break lever versus the strength of your whole leg.

  • @dafishmode its all about physics.when breaking your weight shifts forward so you have more wt on the front tire therefore you get more breaking force (ie friction) by breaking the front tire than the rear. it comes down to moments. you need less force if you break at the rim because its further than the center of rotation. also locking up a wheel results in less breaking force because coeffecient of dynamic friction is lower than static (the contact patch is basically sationary when rolling).

  • @Cocchiarella screw you and your science! I WANNA GO FAST

  • @Cocchiarella *that wasnt serious btw ;)

  • And I've been riding fixed wheel since before your dad had hair on his dick.

I also have a degree in physics.

As far as I'm concerned it's your choice and I would point out to the nay sayers that a brakeless fixie meets the legal braking standards, BUT:

No matter how strong your legs are the laws of physics dictate that you will be able to stop in about a third of the distance with a front brake.

So if the time ever comes bail responsibly and take yourself out, not somebody else.

  • Oi isaacbickerstaffEsq (wtf is with the name), YOUR A JERK, why do you care if this guy hasnt got brakes and no one cares if you got a degree in physics

  • "wtf is with the name"

If you are not sufficiently well read to recognize the name; it's called "Google."

    "YOUR A JERK"

    What about my A JERK?

"why do you care if this guy hasnt got brakes"

I don't, but I repeat myself. Perhaps your issues with reading comprehension are why you don't recognize my name.

"no one cares if you got a degree in physics"

Contrafactual; a good many people care a good deal that I got one (which is how I come to have one, and I don't leave it out in the rain).

  • wtf are you talking about?

who cares a bike is a bike its all about riding and havin fun dood.

    chillax.

and nobody cares if you have a degree in physics....

  • yeh, nobody does care if you have a degree in physics, you need to stop being mr knowitall full of yourself idiot

  • I don't care if he has a physics degree either but it seems to me that he was just pointing out facts...he wasn't attacking anyone or being immature and calling names...unlike most the people that responded to his comment. It's just an opinion and he's free to it. Kinda what this country was originally based on, so chill the fuck out and stop taking everything so personal.

  • Riding in a park without brakes, even on a fixie, that is really fucking stupid.

  • Thanks for your comment. What do you know about riding anyway? Still have you training wheels?

  • @antifascist1 You're an idiot..not to mention ignorant.Brakes are actually the perversion for cycling seeing as the original bikes were fixed..I know this is old but so what.

  • Nice vid.. good music.. thanks :)

  • sweet ride, nice camera angle, i digg it.

  • was the track in the background Explosions in the Sky?

  • I wish I had a 9min commute... Now that its getting colder my hour ride feels like an eternity... Nice Vid though.

  • makes me want a fixie bad

  • nice video, you are pretty chill with train tracks when riding. I hate them, just the other day I crashed and destroyed my knee because i was trying to avoid a drunk that stumbled into the lane i was in. Those tracks are a death sentence sometimes. I like the bike scheme, nice colors and handle bars.

  • a bit long but still cool :) nice ride!

I never rode a bike without brakes :)) always using free hub so I can stop pedaling at any time :) How can you control this?

  • aah, to be someone's crotch in the brisk morning air.

but seriously, nice vid. good music. it was quite enjoyable.

  • I really liked this video/music combo. I love how the angle works with the no hands sections. Makes me wish I had a camera so I could try something like this.

  • What kind of camera have you used here? I would like to do the same thing, my route is Queen to the Eaton Centre from Parkdale. There is almost always some hairy/scary ish down by the mental asylum, it could be a great vid....

  • beautiful video. great music as well.

  • i love the filming of this, excellent work.

  • Why don't you just take Carlton/College right to the end? It gets you almost to Dufferin w/ nearly all bike lane.

  • great commute including some park, got a winter bike? looks like a bianchi frame from the colour. your Maw gonna see you riding no hands!
