i love the fact that you can see the handlebars, the usual helmet cams video seems like it could be anything and not just a bike, with the handlebars in it seems much nicer.
The Like/Dislike system, I can live with. I've gotten used to it now.
The new comment layout, fine with me.
But THIS, is just too much too take! The front page has completely lost it's organised, simple layout!I don't know where you get your ideas, but I think I speak for a big part of the community when I say "YouTube, go F*ck yourself."
I hate people who ask for thumbs up, but this is not meant to be funny. This is serious! Give this a thumbs up and copy/paste around.
Hey, I've recently got a new road bike I want to change it to a fixed gear, If I leave the brakes is there any drawbacks? It would be more hassle to take them off than leave them on as far as I can tell...
@beep1234beeper the rear brake can be annoying as you will have to center the wheel between the brake shoes and get the right chain tension at the same time. But you will get the hang of it eventually.
hey, i really like the vid, really cool, i should be getting a fixie soon and i dont ride brakess on my bmxrite now so that guy your fighting with can suck both ours!
I see alot of fighting in the comments, so lets make one thing clear: if a "child pops up in front of your bike" you wont be able to stop with or without brakes. And skidstops are actually very effective if the driver is experienced. And mr. "antifascist1" should stop being such a troll and go out in the sun and ride a bike maybe that would cheer him up :)
Great video, very positive. People who don't ride fixed don't get the 'no brake' thing it seems crazy if you don't understand you can stop the rear wheel through the drive train. I have a front brake (which I seldom use) on my fixie, and added a rear 2 years ago to be compliant with the HTA and for a triathlon I was in (brake lever on seat post, which I used only once to see if I could), but if you don't ride like an idiot and pay attention you can stop quick enough with no 'brake mechanism'.
This is my typical ride to work from Cabbagetown to Queen W. and Dufferin st. Music is Do Make Say Think's song "Reirschule" from the album & Yet & Yet.
i think because the lens is off set to the left but the camera body is in the middle it gives the illusion it isn't even, but you can see when he turns right it's even
i guess i'll add that i ride fixed with a front brake. i'm not making any judgment when i ask how do you stop/ride efficiently? seems like it would severely slow you down among traffic, etc when you had to preplan every stop. just wondering.
cool video. stupid question, but how did you dub the music over? i've been wanting to do this with my commute to work but not sure how to dub music over.
I honestly thought a video about someone commuting to work on their bike would be free of insults!
What's wrong in the world. Can't 2 people discuss a difference of opinion without the insults??!!
Nice video, by the way! You're so lucky to have nice wide streets in the US; In the UK the roads are REALLY narrow in comparison and cyclists are treated really badly by most drivers!!
Hey genius, you might be riding fixed gear since long ago, that doesnt change the fact that if something pops up in front of your bike like a child, you wont be able to stop in time.
Riding a brakeless bike in urban areas is just plain stupid, whether it is fixed gear or not.
Give me one good reason on why you shouldnt have at least a front brake.
@furniturepimp : you can plan ahead all you want but if a car pops up in front of you or a child or a pedestrian suddenly crosses the street then you won't be able to stop in time. I agree with antifacist1, it is totally pointless to ride around with no brakes. What's the idea behind having no brakes? Other then that: nice commute, looks fast.
@antifascist1 if you're a strong rider you can stop just as fast with your legs. Think about the strength of your break lever versus the strength of your whole leg.
@dafishmode its all about physics.when breaking your weight shifts forward so you have more wt on the front tire therefore you get more breaking force (ie friction) by breaking the front tire than the rear. it comes down to moments. you need less force if you break at the rim because its further than the center of rotation. also locking up a wheel results in less breaking force because coeffecient of dynamic friction is lower than static (the contact patch is basically sationary when rolling).
Oi isaacbickerstaffEsq (wtf is with the name), YOUR A JERK, why do you care if this guy hasnt got brakes and no one cares if you got a degree in physics
I don't care if he has a physics degree either but it seems to me that he was just pointing out facts...he wasn't attacking anyone or being immature and calling names...unlike most the people that responded to his comment. It's just an opinion and he's free to it. Kinda what this country was originally based on, so chill the fuck out and stop taking everything so personal.
@antifascist1 You're an idiot..not to mention ignorant.Brakes are actually the perversion for cycling seeing as the original bikes were fixed..I know this is old but so what.
nice video, you are pretty chill with train tracks when riding. I hate them, just the other day I crashed and destroyed my knee because i was trying to avoid a drunk that stumbled into the lane i was in. Those tracks are a death sentence sometimes. I like the bike scheme, nice colors and handle bars.
I really liked this video/music combo. I love how the angle works with the no hands sections. Makes me wish I had a camera so I could try something like this.
What kind of camera have you used here? I would like to do the same thing, my route is Queen to the Eaton Centre from Parkdale. There is almost always some hairy/scary ish down by the mental asylum, it could be a great vid....

how do u hold ur camera?

@TheLeVanman
I have a camera mount that works by clamping on to tubes. It has a pivoting head so I can point it where I need.
Look for them at your local bike shop; ask for one.

And I've been riding fixed wheel since before your dad had hair on his dick.
I also have a degree in physics.
As far as I'm concerned it's your choice and I would point out to the nay sayers that a brakeless fixie meets the legal braking standards, BUT:
No matter how strong your legs are the laws of physics dictate that you will be able to stop in about a third of the distance with a front brake.
So if the time ever comes bail responsibly and take yourself out, not somebody else.

"why do you care if this guy hasnt got brakes"
I don't, but I repeat myself. Perhaps your issues with reading comprehension are why you don't recognize my name.

Contrafactual; a good many people care a good deal that I got one (which is how I come to have one, and I don't leave it out in the rain).
