I'm 22 and I often play Suikoden I and II on my laptop. Call it nostalgia but besides FFVIII, no other RPG even the modern ones gives me the same feeling I have while playing those two. In term of well written stroy, choices that actually matters, epic themes, full scale battle war. They're truely immersive games.
There isn't anything wrong with putting time and effort into visuals, they help immerse a player in a world that seems real, I don't think it's fair people say you should completely sack graphics for an absolute masterpiece story line, I'm 21, I love old school RPG's also but you can't ask a company to spend their time solely on a story and have the game look like it's from 1990.
Very true. However, they only do that to appeal to the new generation of gamers. I would much prefer 2d rpgs than 3d rpgs any day. It's just so ridiculous how games have simply turned into a movie rather than an actual GAME.

Initially when I went to fight him, I was like "OH THIS IS AWESOME, I'M GOING TO BEAT YOU DOWN NECLORD!" He did some nice damage the first turn to my party, but nothing major so I used a lesser healing spell during the 2nd round... But he died during the second round. So the heal just went to say 'Ohai, you guys can claim you got a perfect against Neclord ;D' I was disappointed by the level of difficulty he displayed in 2. Still, he was a fun villain...
@slitheryjuggler94 you mean where AMV scenes freeze but still keeps playing? use the emulator's fast forward button (Del) :D press and hold til its over then insert cd image again and it should re-update itself, kinda of a pain when it chains all the amv scenes in the game though

And I knew it was gonna be an epic battle ... and this music came along .... holy crap ... honestly ... one of the best gaming surprises in my life, it was PERFECT.

@JawesomeThePirate jowy/riou were like 8-10when suikoden rolled around, that took about a year in there time to finish the war in the first game and it was roughly like 5-10 years later suikoden 2 rolled around, apple looked like she was early teens in first suikoden and yea flick and viktor musta been roughly in there early/mid 20's just viktor looking older then he was in first game

Both Suikoden and Castlevania are made by Konami so it's VERY possible this song was made by the same people who did the music for SOTN, they are both great games.
Don't fight over which is better, both are classic masterpieces that will never again be equaled.

Had Konami changed the music author in Suikoden 2? Suikoden 2 music really sucks copared to suikoden 1. Suikoden 1 has one of the best music I ever heard on videogames. From the start to the final battle.
@svedz I didn't like the music tracks as much as Iiked the ones in Suikoden 1, the quality of the sound was better as you said, but the songs used are not as good. I think it's a matter of taste then ;)..

This theme made you feel the charcters motivation - Viktors quest for revenge for his hometown, Kahn's families long hunt for one of the worlds most evil being, and Riou's and Nanami's anger over zombifying a country, Sierra's quest to take back what rightfully belonged to her people, the moon rune - and Star Dragon Sword's hatred for the vampire.
I think their soundtracks are very good but still all of those games are years old covering the previous gen systems time. Those aren't good examples of the present. Not to mention when they DID come out it was during a time period where the quality of music was declining and they were just notable exceptions to that trend.

@Bazerald777 I know this is 7 months to late, but yes it is the developers fault. They're solely responsible for making their games. They decide if they're going to have the best graphics and sacrifice plot/story and everything else.
That said there are developers out there that still provide us with quality in all areas.
Atlus, Gust, tri-ace, maybe square-enix they hit and miss with some titles, but get it right with others. There are other dev's, but I'm sure you get the point ;)
@Varnasmt The developers are of course leaning towards the market's demand. We are in our 20s now and the market now is not us but those children who never experienced games such as this. Those kids only experienced advanced graphic and will complain if there's a game that's not as beautiful as they expect even though the storyline rivals Suiko 2.
@Bazerald777 No, it's still the developers' fault. They don't have to focus on graphics, after all look at Disgaia (Spell error, I know). It has the same graphics as older RPGs, yet it's a next gen console game series, and it's still a great series.

You make honest and obviously true statements about why you think a game is mediocre to someone playing and they'll either drop the arguement or say "At least the graphics look great" why does graphics suddenly make a difference? It's becoming more and more appearant this gen too, look at Two Worlds 2, game had great scenery and lighting but still sucked more than a cheap whore.

Even if the minority is long running fans they still need to make a proffit. Ah so much memory when i heard this song. You can beat neclord in 1 round if you have the heroes of the first suikoden and if your char are well trained with good runes, I did it, my friend was like wth !!!
@Sor0w Another way to kill Neclord in 1 round is having Sierra and... and... I forgot the name of the vampire-slayer. XD Well, the two of them comes with the Resurrection Rune. If you use the "ultimate attack" of the Rune with both characters. you can deal 2500 which each attack (as far I remember). Oh-hohoho!
@codemasterda It's not too expensive anymore, 25-30 dollars or so, I paid 25 euros for it a while ago and do not regret it. Suikoden 2 will always be my favorite one but so far, 5 is way better than 1, Tierkreis, 4 or Tactics (can't play 3 unless I pay a lot of money for an American PS2 or a newer PS3 and then buy the game).

My first battle against Neclord was VERY easy, he only "sucks" on Nanami every turn. XD Didn't attack me even once.
But my second try was different. He use over and over again his "all-party attaks" and took me overconfident. ¬_¬ Then he pisses me and I kill him with two attacks of the Resurrection Rune. LOL Screw you, damn zombie lord!!!

Had Konami changed the music author in Suikoden 2? Suikoden 2 music really sucks copared to suikoden 1. Suikoden 1 has one of the best music I ever heard on videogames. From the start to the final battle.

@svedz I didn't like the music tracks as much as Iiked the ones in Suikoden 1, the quality of the sound was better as you said, but the songs used are not as good. I think it's a matter of taste then ;)..

@chrisbary Yeah, it sounds a lot like Castlevania. I think Michiru Yamane had something to do with this particular track. She started working on Suikoden III, so even if she isn't credited here, it's kind of suspicious that this track from Suikoden II sounds so much like her style...

I think their soundtracks are very good but still all of those games are years old covering the previous gen systems time. Those aren't good examples of the present. Not to mention when they DID come out it was during a time period where the quality of music was declining and they were just notable exceptions to that trend.

When new one come up, the thing that gets batter and better are graphics, not the sound and music. So, the developers focused on that thing... Sad indeed....

@Bazerald777 true, story and music are being neglected by the producers... we can see it for example in more recent final fantasy... compare FF13 to FF7 and FF6, still today I rather replay 6 or 7 than replay 13. There are few truly epic games nowadays.

@Bazerald777 I know this is 7 months to late, but yes it is the developers fault. They're solely responsible for making their games. They decide if they're going to have the best graphics and sacrifice plot/story and everything else.
That said there are developers out there that still provide us with quality in all areas.
Atlus, Gust, tri-ace, maybe square-enix they hit and miss with some titles, but get it right with others. There are other dev's, but I'm sure you get the point ;)

@Varnasmt The developers are of course leaning towards the market's demand. We are in our 20s now and the market now is not us but those children who never experienced games such as this. Those kids only experienced advanced graphic and will complain if there's a game that's not as beautiful as they expect even though the storyline rivals Suiko 2.

@Bazerald777 No, it's still the developers' fault. They don't have to focus on graphics, after all look at Disgaia (Spell error, I know). It has the same graphics as older RPGs, yet it's a next gen console game series, and it's still a great series.

You make honest and obviously true statements about why you think a game is mediocre to someone playing and they'll either drop the arguement or say "At least the graphics look great" why does graphics suddenly make a difference? It's becoming more and more appearant this gen too, look at Two Worlds 2, game had great scenery and lighting but still sucked more than a cheap whore.

@Kenuda I honestly cant say I blame them neither they DO have a choice but can you SERIOUSLY blame them for choosing majority? It's obvious which they'll make more off pleasing at first glance. Even if the minority is long running fans they still need to make a proffit. Also it's seemingly become more prevalant that dev's are taking notice of critics bashing specific aspects and are trying to change them since for some reason critics like IGN affect everyone's opinion as a whole.

@Sor0w Another way to kill Neclord in 1 round is having Sierra and... and... I forgot the name of the vampire-slayer. XD Well, the two of them comes with the Resurrection Rune. If you use the "ultimate attack" of the Rune with both characters. you can deal 2500 which each attack (as far I remember). Oh-hohoho!

@codemasterda It's not too expensive anymore, 25-30 dollars or so, I paid 25 euros for it a while ago and do not regret it. Suikoden 2 will always be my favorite one but so far, 5 is way better than 1, Tierkreis, 4 or Tactics (can't play 3 unless I pay a lot of money for an American PS2 or a newer PS3 and then buy the game).
But V is definitely worth it.

My first battle against Neclord was VERY easy, he only "sucks" on Nanami every turn. XD Didn't attack me even once.
But my second try was different. He use over and over again his "all-party attaks" and took me overconfident. ¬_¬ Then he pisses me and I kill him with two attacks of the Resurrection Rune. LOL Screw you, damn zombie lord!!!
