i like when the camera is above him so we can see him hitting the drum heads. you see the speed he plays at. for an amateur drummer, valuable to see this! he has an interesting set up.
I dont want to sound like Im Dissing the man...coz I have much respect for Neil Peart..But....he really isnt that good of a drummer !...His solos arent very musical...just alot of banging.. Bozzio is around the same age as Neil and a much more musical drummer.. I agree with GarytheIrishDrummer...JoJo Mayer is so much more way advanced than any other drummer to date!
Thanks so much for posting this. It brings back great memories!
I was there on this night with my best friend and my 15 year-old son (he's a drummer, and HUGE Rush fan). We saw them in San Diego July 2007, and since they didn't go to SD on the second leg, We just HAD to drive to Irvine. Man, what a night! =-)
Well, said....but the debt should not be about who's the best, thats subject to someones taste...i like big brown beavers, you my friend might like big blond beavers but we still love beavers!
as good as all these drummers mentioned are, they all pale in comparison, even Mr. Peart, to the late great Buddy Rich. Drumming for over 70 years, pioneering countless techniques, this is a man who was excelling at drumming before Neil Peart was born, a man Peart IDOLIZES. A man that could play a solo easily as impressive or more impressive with one bass, 4 cymbals, a hi-hat, two toms, and a snare.
Nobody...But Nobody's better than Neil! He's leagondary, beyond belief! He is the "Godfather" of your Richardson, Bret Batdorf, and of course Alexandre Pellitier! Think about where it all started...Well before You ever even knew what music & drums were, "my son!" Don't disrespect the Godfather of the drums...Neal Peart! I've seen him many times live, amongst your "others" and he still rules!
you guys need to chill....all i said was hes getting older god...i got like 30 messages saying shut the fuck up you wish you could play as could as him.....all i said was hes gettign older..
he is still awesome...here in Canada they had a special on him (Rick Mercer Report) and he was totally great...Hey Peart jump on that bike and head up my way sometime!!!
juicebox, he is the best drummer and it doesnt matter if he has money or not cause any musician, learning or tourin the world, knows that most drummers will beat on anythin. if he didnt have the money for these drums and cymbols he would probably emprovise and still kick so much ass. I highly doubt you can find anyone who is better than neil
Yea i can, i still respect neil because alot of my favorite drummers take after him........... but blake richardson is in my opinion better,...... i am a drummer, from experience... yea Blake's stuff is harder to play than Rush
Erm ... soo .. harder = better ? you mean .. more complicated ? This is strange point of view. And what the hell ... with music ? I'm trying to say with my broken English that it doesn't matter. Nobody will "think" like Peart and thats the point in my opinion.
hes the modern day buddy. if your gonna beat him your gonna have to buy a HUUUGE kit. learn poly- rhythms, and work the WHOLE thing. G/L and merry x-mas.
Your ego clearly leaves no available space for a bigger kit. I'm sure there's plenty of room in your dreams though, so keep your awesomeness there, where it belongs.
UNDERRATED?!?!? The only band in the world to have 23 consecutive gold albums. No one will ever come close to that-EVER!? You must live south of the border as we have known they are the best forever! I have played Neil's parts for over 25 years and now my son went last night in Vancouver and said the same thing Webomk, that Neil hardly broke a sweat. But I have seen Neil much crazier in the old days. He is more organized in his solos now. It's incredible. A must buy is "Anatomy of a drum solo".
Hey, I'm south of the border and I have to agree that they are underrated in the United States but in my opinion they are the best group ever in terms of musical talent and longevity. Saw them live in Oklahoma City and the crowd never sat down for the entire performance Amazing energy and sound! Send them back to us anytime!
Our son STILL talks about it....best show he has seen to date. And he likes the crazy loud stuff of his era. I am SO glad I was able to send them (I paid for him and his buddy, who is now a lifer). I wish I could have gone with my son, but maybe the next time. Neil sure looks like he has a few years in him, that's for sure

I was there too! One of the best concerts I've ever seen. These guys are, hands-down the most talented and underrated rock group ever. I was blown away at how effortless they play their complex music. Neil is God on drums. Also, I love their sense of humor... if you saw the show, you know what I mean.
Neil makes the kit a machine. Best North American ever!

I'll agree that Buddy Rich was the best ever but Neil is still one of the best drummers ever. I think it would be a tragedy to deny his talent.
