  • Love the song,

  • shit I nearly freaked out when her hands doubled... :S

  • This is the most beautiful song of them all. It is the song that reminds me so much of my late wife, who died far too young. I miss her. But thanks for letting me remember her.

  • I don't care much for the Artsy video, but the playing is good. Great tone too.

  • Erik Satie was a genious with a deep sense of trascendental!

  • I'd always listened to this beautiful song played by a piano or by an orchestra, but with this nylon guitar it is is so deep, so beautiful, it's wonderful. Thanks for posting this vieo.

  • @lbedit: You're welcome, and thanks to Liona for sending it to me. Glad you appreciate. :-)

  • SIMPLY BRILLIANT.FLUID.CLASSIC MOVEMENT.SUPERB & ELEGANT GUITAR-PLAYING.

  • Wish i played like her

  • @listeningiris: Me too!

  • @stanster69 if you both started now you could in 3 years, its not a difficult piece and all that is special is that she takes her time..'the music is between the notes'. no point wishing you were something else. shes also very attractive, that i can't help you with ;-)

  • MUY HERMOSO, COMBINAR LA BELLEZA DE LOS ACORDES CON LA GRACIA DEL MOVIMIENTO CORPORAL

  • @marrowmeld: Oh okay. I never knew what "Ms" actually meant. Thanks for updating me on the proper terminology. :-)

  • Wow... the harmonics... incredible.

  • not so keen on the tempo, but the use of harmonics blew me away.

  • @superjared Same here, I would've prefered it a tad bit slower, but it's still amazing :)

  • un vrai rêve!!!! magnifique!!!!! quelle beauté!!!! Merci!!!!

  • Que hermoso....es ud un virtuoso

  • Thumbs Up.

  • Quelle belle interprétation de ces Gymnopédie n1 ..

  • OHmazing :D

  • Beautiful music, beautifully played.... Thank you.

  • Gordinha pacas ela!!

    =D

  • made me smile heh:))

  • My all-time favourite piece. It was in the movie 'Somewhere in Time' starring Christopher Reeves (1980). Great actor, great movie, great song! Nuff said.

  • hermoso

  • Wonderful!

  • Is it possible for me to be a friend on facebook?

    Xavier Hernandez

  • Can we get this Woman's right hand nails insured?

LOL She is a real talent..

New to me but she grabbed me right away..

  • @ldanforth3

how about sending some psychic distance healing to her hands.

I haven't been playing guitar that long and my wrist is already drawing plans for a ganglion.

It would be lovely if we could all help her hands play that way for much, much longer by sharing our intentions to heal.

When I saw her play live I don't know that I breathed the whole time.

She plays like it is an angelic harp!

  • This is beautiful! Very skilled, but above all containing all the poetic and fragile qualities of the piece. How inspiring that the inner gnosis can be given a voice in this music. Thank you

  • Absolutely beautiful, I have never heard it played better.

  • So very beautiful. And, so beautiful your are, my dear. I suspect that many men have fallen in love with both you and your music! Peter-an old man in Colorado

  • Really nice but I thinks it's played a little too fast

  • @BillyBoysing

I think it is ever-so-slightly-slower because Satie composed and played this on the piano and the piano can sustain the sound longer. With the guitar playing just as slow as the piano there would be empty spaces. Her art was finding just the right timing to balance resonance and silence. Some beautiful, chilling sounds.

  • LUSH LUSH LUSH !!!

    HIGHLY..

  • beğenmedim yanlış notadan çalıyor

  • I think you just made this songs official music video. It was that beautiful.

  • beautifull

but i think its a little fast

  • Thank you Mrs Boyd, that was beautiful.

  • @Xavierssweetmusic : It's 'Miss' Boyd. :-)

  • @stanster69 It`s the same thing lol ;)

  • @bbdude09 . No... "Mrs." means married, "Miss" means she is single. ;-)

  • @stanster69 I plan well executed. Shes single!

  • @mikemoseley : I know. She's been single for quite some time now. I think she needs a guy that plays guitar and sings.

  • does anyone know where I can grab this transcription? love it!

  • @havcg1 : It's available on her website in the online store section, in either hard copy or PDF format. I'm surprised it's only $3.50.

  • Very... very beautiful. I never thought this song would sound so wonderful on classical guitar.

  • I love both Liona Boyd and Georgia Simon, so talented and beautiful they are! Of course, technically, this is a very simple piece... yet, only a true master can play it with such a souplesse and perfect timing.

  • i'm going to play this i'm going to play this i'm going to play thissssssss!!!! love her transcription!

  • smoothy woothy

  • Wow she makes it look so easy. She really does justice to Satie; as well as everyone else she chooses to play.

  • A wonderful performance of this very beautiful piece - a moment of great pleasure!

    Best wishes from Germany!

    Maria

  • Liona, u r the lady of my dreams. I wish I could find a girl like u!

    XOXO

  • She is amazing, i am a 18 year old boy and i have recently become a fan of hers, i am not a guitar player i am a bass player but i love the guitar in all of its forms.

Liona Boyd is in a league of her own =) Just amazing!!!

  • @mrtamberineman123: That's a big plus to be 18 and have such a great influence. She definitely is an inspiration for sure. Thanks for your very nice post. --Stan--

  • @stanster69 No problem =) Also i took a look at her discography and she has released A LOT of material, i dont suppose you reacomend me any CDs where i can start, if you could that would be awsome =)

  • @mrtamberineman123: Yes, she has released a lot of material. 22 CDs I think. It depends on what style you would like. I guess for classical I would recommend "Highlights" and "The Best of Liona Boyd". For Flamenco/Latin I would recommend "Camino Latino" and "The Spanish Album", for New Age, "Seven Journeys", "Dancing on the Edge", and "Persona". I just got "Seven Journeys", and really enjoy it.

  • @mrtamberineman123: You can listen to some of her music on Facebook, MySpace, and Reverbnation.

  • Like the artificial harmonics, it gives the piece something more weak, something more fragile... Is there a score of this wonderful arrangement? And is there a way to get it?

  • @gitaristje007 Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The transcription is available through her website for $3.50 in either hardcopy or PDFT format.

  • Beautiful.

  • This is the most thought evoking, serene and ethereal song I have ever heard and she plays it with perfect technique....

  • Wow super good.

  • hey gidi ölümlü dünya hiç birşey anlayamadan çekip gidecem..

  • Absolutely beautiful................

  • Liona should get together with the girl guitar player from Heart. They are almost twins and maybe that could be the title of their album. They look and play beautifully. Here we see the black and white contrast but two blonds would have twice as much fun.

  • @BlindEyeJones ha i've been thinking the same thing forever :) they do look like twins!

  • It's a very good performance and it's beautiful for listening but I don't think a was necessary

  • shes hot

  • @tivpo

    She's 60 years old.

  • @shadowknight132: She still looks great.

  • qué bellos armónicos!...

  • nice nice nice

  • An excellent version. Thank you..

  • She is soooooooo good!

  • A beautiful song and very well played. It doesn't really need a video in my opinion.

  • great sound, but i do understand the 4.5 stars...

    the video is pretty random

    better for just listening

  • beautiful performance and video!

  • 5 stars!!!

  • i can't understand the 4.5 stars here. this is definitely a 5 star performance. i think it is flawless, and dripping with emotion. thanks for uploading, stan. steve.

  • @Mr5stevenr: You're welcome Steve. Being able to post these videos is a genuine privelege for me.

  • wow

  • Awesome, but just play the damn guitar.

  • The San Francisco Chronicle called her "The guitar world's new superstar" and the New York Times praised her "flair for brilliance."

  • Beautiful

  • awesome

  • love the harmonics..

  • I always loved her version of this, harmonics are great, although on the video I wish it would stay on her playing of the fretboard, instead of that added stuff.

  • bello, bello, bello....sensual la melodia y ella......!!!

  • Gymnopedie - pronounciation is Zhim (think Zhivago / rhymes with Jim) - No - Pay - Dee

  • Well played. Great work.

  • I don't think it's weird. I like it ^^

    Liona is great <3

  • cool

  • WTF this video is WEIRD. The song is great, she did it well

  • score???

  • Very warm tone... I am in love.

  • This is very well done, there's another guy on YouTube that covers this song very well too, his YouTube account's called ''mcbaldan'' and he has a very good version too! You should really check it out! This video's very well too! 5/5 Stars!

  • Not often you see some one promoting a youtuber other than their own

  • lovely stuff

  • does any1 have her when she played at the queen elizabeth theatre in Vancouver?

  • masterwork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of my favs!greetings from Holland,Bram

  • amazing

  • What a beautifull instrument and what an amazingly talented classical guitar player.

  • This is as close as you can get to ballet on guitar, magical.

  • talent of understanding

  • A truly lovely performance - and I like the visual effects here as well. What a beautiful combination.

  • Wonderful.

I recall seeing a clip on tv of her playing "Adagio", and a few others.

I'm not qualified to judge whether she's truly a guitar genius or not, but I find her playing beautiful, and in the end if she can bring joy through her talents to many, then that is the greatest talent possible.

  • She's very talented.

The haters can bite my bum.

  • awesome!

  • hix hix, 4tay , sợ quá!!! ---> thế giới quả là nhiều điều kì lạ !!!

  • harmonics were nice, beautiful piece by satie. not sure about extracurricular stuff.

  • Yer, doesn't really need it - speaks for itself.

  • I read the exchange between Fanfardon and Stanster with disbelief. She is a beautiful woman who plays beautifully. A "virtuoso piece"? What nonsense is that? Sometimes the uncomplicated pieces are the most difficult. But that is not the point. Her music is lovely. From where does the need come to criticize and inspect classical players as if they were performing at a never-ending graduation recital? Music is to enjoy. I suggest trying that rather than silly, pedantic, self-important analysis.

  • Very well said. Thank you.

  • @gworthmore You said it well.

  • @gworthmore Super comment! - Hurray!

  • fantastic. the part with the harmonics is awesome.

  • very nice and the song isn't bad either

  • do you know the original song?

  • very nice

  • I think it sounds beatufil, "emotionally talking". Technically speaking: hmm.

  • I am surprized by these comments ??? but I appreciate very much the choregraphy ! It is a little too softly played for my taste but I have to admit it's very nice. And if the score exists, i would play it with plaisure.

  • educate YOURSELF was what stanster said.

  • que bello, y que manos tan relajadas...

  • Wauw !!! I love it !!!

  • A beautiful song , no matter the instrument it is played with .Beautiful subtle notes at the end ,

    thank you for uploading it!!!

  • It is not a song.

  • wow, you obviously know so much about classical music. now get over yourself, nothing wrong with calling it a song.

  • quelle perfection ! magnifique !

  • I LOVE THIS SONG TOO MUCH! it was in "man on wire".. best movie eva.. amazing.. literally... that dude got skills at walking on wire!!!! eh-may-zing.

  • It is not a song. It is a piece or music, a work for piano interpreted here for guitar.

  • I saw Liona Play in Edinburgh many years ago, what a fantastic performance, brought the house down. And very pretty too!

  • Liona miło cię słuchać.

  • This is great. This arrangement isn't in her books is it? Anybody know where I can get this arrangement?

  • You can find Liona Boyd's transcription of Gymnopedie # 1 in "Liona Boyd, The First Lady of the Guitar" ISBN: 0 8494 075 0. Hansen House is or was the publisher. It's a small book -only 44 pages- & has 14 pieces in it including the Satie & Boyd's own "Cantarell". It's not listed on Amazon & I'm afraid it might be out of print.

  • Thanks a lot :D

  • I have always greatly admired Liona Boyd's interpretation of this piece.

  • beautiful

  • Nice to hear a real spanish made Guitar again.Ramirez... lovely

  • Thank you, Liona!
