@240350z i went through a few 'strengthened' u-joints but they all kept breaking. in the end, i went to a rally mechanic/engineer who made some custom HR31 (Nissan Skyline) CV half shafts which took the torque with ease.
i hate it when other ppl rip on guys for putting a v8 in there z i have a 1970 with a chevy small block 400 and a 78 with an l28 turbo and have alot of fun with both cars all that matters is u have fun with your car
what a great designed car....and to go muck up the weight by dropping a heavy chevy in there when you could have kept it all nissan with a bad ass 6 cylinder....and they can get just as much hp as a chevy......its nice , dont get me wrong.
hi, thanks for your comment. many people think that putting a chev in it ruins the weight distribution. done well it actually improves the weight distribution. the engine sits low and behind the crossmember. original engine sits over it and high. in my case it was an improvement. as for your bad ass 6 cylinder that gets as much hp as a chevy... not so sure you would get many people to agree with you there. sure there are some amazing straight sixes but the chev is the chev.
repete your retarted sorry, a badass 6 cylinder is 3x the cost of a sbc 350 that does 290hp stock lol and a 290 hp l28 is pretty difficult without deep pockets
That is a nice car but I have to agree that a decent jap turbo 6 in there it'd be a much better/quicker car.
I have a 240z that had a real nice 650hp small block in it, we took it out and installed a Nissan RB30, 1st pass ever 146.5mph on the 1/4 in full street trim ,with the chev it never got anywhere near that mph and I havn't seen any big block street trim 240's run that sort of mph either.
Each to their own, its a nice car and I'm sure he's happy with the V8.
the turbo six would be much safer too because its lighter? either way the car is like a toy, 500whp 600whp its gonna kill anything out on the street thats for sure lol
Well, the old RB can't be too bad, did a 7.8 @ 176mph in my 240z last weekend, still on the original motor from 18 months ago, not bad for 180 cubic inch :-)
Each to their own but the V8s just can't compete when we can make over 450hp per liter.
Fist off WOW its nice to see someone on here that CAN actually back up what they are saying! TUFF CAR MAN LOOKS LIKE FUN, but Im talking about cars like mark Hay's LC you know the one 7.8's and it cruises on the street! AS KILLA as yourse is how far ya reccon you could cruise it! and BTW im not being a smart ass im actually asking!!
I drove it on the street alot, there's a few video's under my name on here showing it on the street but once we got down into the 7s I used a different front for aero with no grille so with a simple nose change I'd be more than happy to do long trips in it with the 7 second tune.

wow, double-pumper holley/barry grant on a chevy small block and in a datsun z car! personally, i'd never put a v8 in a 240z, but i understand why people do it. i've got a low serial number 240z (1970 #797) and wouldn't dream of replacing the engine, but would love to molest a '74+ with an american small block.
I don't know why you guys think a small jap engine can make as much power as a small block, ad still be affordable. The reason they put a chevy in this 240z is because they are a good solid motor. And just to clarify, no small jap engine is going to stand up to a v8. The right small block can put out power of up to and around 1200hp, where as ive seen big blocks putting out 7000-8000hp; hence nitro dragsters, and funny cars.
Per displacement/hp(ie 396CI/400hp) My datsun l28et !stock! is better than the 396 or 351 or 383 etc. The "jap" cars you see in the US are NOT by any means a "decent" representation of theyre prestiege. I live in St. Louis, Mo, 63125 with a very fast Nissan powered 72 240Z. I have people backing down from quite often in theyre brand new and high performance "muscle" cars. My car weighs just over 2100 lbs with me and my fuel cell full of fuel.
keep it all japanese??? hello thats what was wrong with it in the first place. you cant tell me that the straight 6 in that car (turbo or no turbo) is better then the checy small block. That motor there probally puts 400+ HP. you should be thanking these guys for making a shitty jap car cool. And about the chevy comment... if you put togther the best car japan has to offer, well the amercians can do 5 times better hense the new LSX block.
big whoop ! !!!! NOT ONE JAP CAR or Jap powered car could EVER run a 6 and and compete in dragweek!! pull a tailer run pump gas while cruising the ONLY thing that makes jap engines power ar turbo's and GUESS WHAT BUDDY V8's NOW RULE THAT WORLD TOO!
uhhh no im american as hell an i love the big v8s but dude trust me the japs build a better engine hands down no question and they build a much better car to go with it. they last long they are economical and somehow many times more powerful than massive v8s.
Why put an American Heart in a Japanese Body, don't understand , defeats the purpose. Keep it all Japanese, and really see she can do.......I don't doubt that it makes more HP but a Chevy engine?
Yes, do doubt if you keep any kind of engine standard and dont give it a hard time it will last for half a million kms. When you spend 1000s on a dinosaur, with 1960s technology (correct me if I am wrong but I believe the L series to date to that era) you have to expect problems. They are complete rubbish when you professionally rebuild a performance engine as new and it lasts 2000kms.
my mum had a datsun ? 20 years ago. all i know is it was red and carried 5 of us + 2 neighbours to school every day. she pulled up at a junction one day, the exhaust fell off and she drove away sounding like that tuned car you got there. it sure didn't look or sound pretty but it was a workhorse. datsuns rock
I have a '73 240Z with a worked 302 Windsor in it. Now I've read a heap of these posts and just a fact I will point out is that EVERYONE who comments on my car gives it two thumbs up, many can't believe its got a V8 in it and are simply blown away. To the purists, revel in the joy of a stock 240Z, it must be a wonderful thing for you. To the custom clan, I'll see you on the track - Peace Monkeys!
i think we all love horsepower and foot punds, but all they lead to is faster cars....which leads to worse accidents....which leads to our beloved Z cars destruction! and im sure everyone would agree, one less Z car on the road is a tragedy! 165hp and 205Nm is enough for my stock standard 260!
all I will say to the haters and negative comments is that variety is the spice of life.. I would have preferred a highly tuned VQ engine myself. Probably a lot lighter and more fuel efficient for Power output.
so you're a purist then? i love seeing that disgusted look on the face of purists when they see my car. it makes me lol. so does it bother you that the 240 was tested with V8's pre-production and would have been produced with 8's had they found a good balance? that makes the L24 a compromise does it not? seriously though, nothing wrong with stock 240's. i'd love one for a daily driver & wish i still kept my first one :(
stop being stupid... they started putting chevy v8s in 240z back in the early 80s.... youre guy's bitch complaint is over 20 years old... and why do people put v8s in 240zs? because it promises performance and has done so since the 80s. only way to keep the car true to its name is staying with the l24-28... and i dont see you guys defending that...
most definitely overused but that's part of the beauty of it. so much can be done to it, parts are everywhere and cheap, has been engineered to perfection, easy to work on etc. having said that the japs sure do make some decent engines.
I hate it when idiots argue for the benifit of japanese powered vehicles over US powered vehicles... I truley love the Japanese and German power plants over that offered by the US...mostly because I'd rather have somethign that is NOT powered by a SBC...nothing wrong with it, just over used.

Thats why you pout a v8 or 25 in it. i dont see anyone posting video's of240z's with stock motors. oh an you blow 4 motors man you must have no idea how to service an engine i mean you blow 4 who the fuck would get another one even after the 2nd lol dick head...
she was born in sydney, moved to brissy and i brought her back to sydney about 3 years ago. i was mainly after the engineers report but as it turned out some decent body and suspension work had been done. saved me the hassle and let me concentrate on engine and drivetrain.
magic, car weighs the same as stock and well balanced.
I agree, but that is a powerful engine, and it sits in behind the front crossmember, so weight distrubution is probably good depending on suspension setup etc... I would assume it's a heavy engine so this well may negate all the benefits... interesting car though!!
They have putted a Chevrolet engine in the Datsun...rape I tell you, rape of a legend. Its just like when they putted a Nissan engine in the Mustang on Fast and The Furious Tokyo drift... I think it ruins whats special about them, but thats my opinion.
Nice, I am building a 240350Z, what did you do for the rear end? I have almost finished customizing a corvette rearend.

she was born in sydney, moved to brissy and i brought her back to sydney about 3 years ago. i was mainly after the engineers report but as it turned out some decent body and suspension work had been done. saved me the hassle and let me concentrate on engine and drivetrain.
magic, car weighs the same as stock and well balanced.
