  • How could anyone hate on this guy? He's great!

  • why did he retire again?

  • I love Rickey. I think it would have been awesome to play baseball with him. My favorite story is the LaRussa story about Rickey.

  • Professional athletes are just brilliant. I mean, the depth of these guys, the analytical thought process, the IQ, it's just amazing. I think Hollywood stars are the only people that top them.

  • in the top 5 greatest hitters of all time.

  • thankfully, he was never paid to think

  • @beanis421 have you ever heard rickey talk about baseball? the man can think.

  • @beanis421 Rickey Henderson's Hall of Fame career>your sorry, pathetic life

  • Derek Jeter sucks dick.

  • haha he is the best

  • Who frames a million dollar check? Rickey does. That's who. Best ever. Period.

  • One of the greatest major league baseball players of all time. Excellence personified.

  • Rickey: "On behalf of Rickey Henderson, Rickey would like to cash this $1Million check made out to Rickey Henderson!"

    Teller: "And your name, sir?"

    Rickey: "James Brown"

  • @toyotas2006

Best comment on YouTube period. LOL

  • I probably would've cashed it, lol

  • He's lyin...he definitely asked someone how long it would take to drive to DR

  • i thnk rickey was drunk

  • love this guy

  • this is another case of, not what you say but how you say it. if you replace the words "is it true" with "your so stupid" i doubt Rickey would be taking it so well. otherwise this shit was pretty funny.

  • Luther Vandrell?

  • my favorite player

  • jeter is gonna finish with 3700 hits and ripken with 3,184, average is 30 points higher then ripken and jeter has a lot of speed and is very underrated hes has over 300 stolen bases lifetime

  • Comment removed

  • jeter is having trouble getting reach 3000 and most likely wont much get over 150 hits this year, at most. With that rate and jeter's age, how in the world do u think he would reach 3700?

  • What makes Ricky so funny is the fact that his elevator doesn't quite go to the top floor.

  • @Sureshot82 if his elevator doesn't go to the top floor, then that makes you a dingbat. He was known as one of the smartest baseball players in the game

  • jeter got 5 world series made the best postseason plays ever and didnt finish his career yet you know hes gonna finish his career with 3700 hits or more and btw jeter has over 300 sb and cal has like 80 lifetime im not saying that cal wasnt great we all know he was but jeter is wat better

  • rickey is second best after derek jeter

  • @manny32011 2nd best to Jeter? Jeter isn't even the greatest shortstop ever. Cal Ripken was. You split Ricky in two and you still have two hall of famers.

  • @Ninety2q u kidding me ripken finishe with a 274 avg jeter is 317 liftime thats abt 40 points higher ripken has one gold glove jeter has 4 u are a blind mister get ur eyes done

  • @manny32011 Ripken had 2 gold gloves their chief, and that's before Rawlings bought the award out and gave it anyone who would market their product better. Fact is Ripken has the highest single season fielding percentage of any shortstop with a .996. Made 3 errors in in the 1991 season. I'll give you the average. But, 3000 hits and 400 homeruns buddy, Only done by 7 other guys. 2 MVP awards, one right after his rookie of the year. Only one other person has done that.

  • @manny32011 Cal was a 19 time all star 2x gold glove winner 91, 92, 2x al mvp 83,91 8x silver slugger award winner, rookie of the year 2 x all star game mvp, home run derby winner and broke gehrig's record Get your eyes checked when you talk about someone's stats. Career .276 and 431 homeruns and he didn't play with a lineup of high-priced allstars ad former allstars. Jeter has more world series trophies ,higher batting avg and more gold gloves. when arod left ss jeter started geting them

  • greatest player ive ever seen play the game.

    ive been watching since 1976

  • Ty Cobb was a MUCH BETTER leadoff hitter than Ricky!

with such a high 367. AVERAGE, I want him in the lineup FIRST!

  • Bonds dominated (even if the way he attained it was shady) better than anyone I had ever seen. However Rickey is one of top players ever. Top five easy maybe top two or three.

  • I won't get into a greatest of alltime debate, because that is a matter of opinion. However, top five of all time, he is definitely in the conversation.

  • Greatest all around player of our generation. Untainted by scandals, holder of records that will never be broken, and number one in runs, sb, leadoff hrs, and unintentional walks. No one could impact the game like him. How do you play against him? He's leading off the game. You pitch to him, he can go deep. You pitch around him, it's like giving him a double. He's on base, everyone at bat's average goes up, because the pitcher is worried about Rickey. You can't defend against him.

  • "Ty Cobb was better for the game". Ty hated blacks, jews, catholics, got into multiple fights, strangled a woman on a spring training feild, gambled, drank, and beat up a fan in the stands who did not have any hands. To top it all off only 4 people from the MLB went to Ty's funeral. You can talk about Rickey's and Ty's numbers but dont compare them as human beings. Ty had to be one of the worst assholes ever.

  • Greatest quote from Rickey "You pay me like Mike Gallego, and i am going to play like Gallego."

-Rickey on contract negotiation with Oakland A's.

  • greatest of all time

  • Agreed

  • @JohnnyFromHamilton Willie#1 Rickey #2

  • Respond to this video... When Mr Henderson was on base every pitcher and catcher knew he was going to run and they still couldn't stop him. The stolen base record will never be touched no one will even come close. The single season record will will last for ever. There will never be another man who can hit and take enough walks then go from 1rst to 2cnd then take 3rd. He made pitchers so nervous they couldn't pitch. He is the Fastest ever on the bases. next to Willie smartest runner

  • It's hard to deny that Ricky is the greatest all-around player in history. He did everything well.

  • i can tell you right now thta henderson was the best base stealer and leadoff hitter ever and i understand hes your hero and all but bonds, mays, mantle and a handful of other guys werre far better overall, i got alot of respect for what rickey did for the game and revolutionizing the leadoff spot so dont be misled i feel hes a great player but you need to be a little more realistic and understand hes probably not even a top 10 player overall.

  • nope. Nobody in the sport of baseball has ever come even remotely close to Mr. Rickey Henderson. He was easily the most explosive, ferocious, greatest athlete the sport itself has EVER seen, and will ever see.

None of the scrubs you mentioned could ever physically compete with Rickey, never.

  • you know nothing about baseball if you think rickey henderson was better than bonds mays and mantle or williams i feel bad for you i think you should educate yourself with the game before you comment...

  • Yeah he said he was the greatest. But you know what? It ain't braggin' if you can do it. And Rickey did it.

  • When rickey played with the yankees in the 80s I had a seious crush on him. He was such a great player. I still love this guy.

  • Fuck you haters, Rickey Henderson was great for the game.

  • Great player when he wanted to play. Dogged it plenty of times. As time went on his attitude got worse (playing cards in Mets clubhouse during a game, jogging after balls, definitely a "Me" guy). Proclaiming himself the greatest of all time. Jive ass mo-fo, but a great player when he wanted to play.

  • Rickey never dogged anything. That was nothing but a bullshit "myth" created by loud mouth New Yorkers who didn't like Rickey. Rickey Henderson played a more physical brand of baseball than anyone who ever played. Rickey played his ass off. If Rickey had a tight hamstring, gas bag New Yorkers criticized him. He scored 146 runs in 143 games as a Yankee. I hate to see the numbers he put up when he wasn't "dogging it". Wake up Henderson hater.

  • rickey henderson could be the greatest EVER! at least top 3. but in my opinion BEST! he impacted the game like no other

  • When comparing the two as lead off hitters i dont really like to factor in runs scored because Henderson has played with much better teams but still Rickeys base stealing and ability to draw walks is far more superior then Ichiro so hes the better lead off hitter by far in my opinion. Ichiro on the other hand is a much better hitter, one of the best all time and certainly the best hitter of the past few decades.

  • wow jrtress91 tell i read the comments you left i didnt think there was anyone more obsessed with Ricky than Ricky... Why are you ripping on ichiro he has had 200 plus hits 9 years in a row

  • I love Ichiro. He's one of the best pure hitters I've ever seen. He's also nowhere near Rickey Henderson as a lead off hitter. I'm not sure how many times it needs to be said. Greatness is measured by how you impact the sport. Rickey Henderson had a far greater impact on the OUT COME of a game than Ichiro has ever had. That's just my opinion.

  • I'll end on this note.

"With the first pick in the "OF ALL TIME Fantasy Baseball Draft," Jrstress91 selects Rickey Henderson, left fielder, Oakland Athletics.

    Nuff said.

  • Let me help you out. The ALL TIME leader in runs scored. The ALL TIME leader in stolen bases. The ALL TIME leader in walks. The ALL TIME leader in lead off HR's. ALL TIME!!! Meaning, no other player in the history of baseball has more. Granted, Barry Bonds drew more walks but those are steroid induced numbers. Bonds benefited from a performance enhancing drug that drew the intentional pass. You didn't intentionally walk Rickey. You crazy? Over 3,000 hits. 2 World Series Championships. An MVP.

  • Horrible arguement on the walk issue. Bonds drew more walks. Facts are facts.

  • Nobody is arguing. Henderson is a greater player than Bonds was.

  • sure henderson was a better base stealer than bonds and a better leadoff hitter but thats not even an arghument cuz bonds always hit 3rd or 4th. Every other aspect of the game bonds was far better than rickey. Bonds 7 MVP's 8 gold gloves Henderson 1 MVP 1 Gold Glove.Bonds has better stats that a leadoff hitter would want in every category except steals so this isnt even an argument cuz its not close but anyways Rickey no doubt best leadoff hitter and best base stealer of all time

  • And please don't tell me that Rickey's greatness was because of the team around him. Henderson wasn't a member of the '88 Oakland A's that lost to the Dodgers. I find it ironic how that A's team comes back the following year, adds one piece (Rickey), and proceeds to sweep another team from the same NL West in the World Series. Greatness is what you do when you are on center stage. Rickey dominated on the world's biggest stage, Ichiro Suzuki can't get out of the front row.

  • It's not a coincidence why Rickey Henderson always seemed to be on winning teams. It's not a coincidence that Rickey won both his championships on teams that rented his services mid season ('89 A's, '93 Jays). I mean, the day I see Ichiro Suzuki dominate an ALCS the way Rickey did in '89, then I might entertain the argument, until then, all I see is a below average Seattle team that Suzuki's "greatness" cant seem to lift out of last place. Rickey was a BEAST. Ichiro is a great hitter.

  • one of the big reasons oakland won in 1989. GO A's!!!

  • How do you not love Rickey Henderson?

  • People are trying to say Ichiro will be the best lead off hitter of all time when its all said and done. What do you say to that Tress?

Rickey is just an all around better player.

  • Espares1, what do I say to that? I say that anyone who thinks Ichiro was a better leadoff hitter than Rickey Henderson should be pissed tested immediately because they are clearly high on methamphetamine.

  • Ricky is the Truth!

  • ricky henderson is boss

  • I love Rickey

  • Can you imagine being on his team? You could have the locker next tio him, go over his house everyday and Rickey porbably wouldn't know your name.

Before Manny was Manny, Rickey was Rickey. Greatest lead-off hitter of all time.

  • They said one time the hitting coach for his team was fired in the middle of the season and a reporter asked him how he felt about him being fired and he said "whose that?" . Best athlete of all time
