  • Studio sound!

  • Just an awesome band!

  • What is the make of guitar Mr Hillman is playing/ I know I haven't got the money for one.

  • This song was written by brothers Jack and Jim Anglin along with Johnnie Wright (Kitty Wells husband).

  • Aw god dammit if only Gram just kept on keepin on. Now Im sad.

  • Chris Hillman made a career out of short term bands

  • One of my fave all time bands!

  • Superb as ever - yes it it Bill Bryson Joe!

  • Thanks for posting - a BIG favorite!

  • . . . great desert rose shot, love it ! ! !

  • I am a huge fan of the DRB! Is that Bill Bryson playing bass or a fill in musician? You guys are awesome! I still listen to yall all the time on my IPOD!

  • Was wondering if this was the same outing as when I saw them at "The Crazy Horse Steakhouse" in of all places, Santa Ana, CA.? It was during '86-88' period.. real good stuff here!.. thanx , circleK

  • Kinda funny how it worked out with the Steel Guitar Players of the DRB, The Late Tom Brumley came to the Desert Rose Band from Buck Owene Buckaroos and the Great Jay Dee Manness went from the Desert Rose Band to The Buckaroos. it just shows you the caliber of their playing which is 2nd to none

  • Chris and Herb have put out another cd called At Edward's Barn.It can be ordered from Chris Hillman's web site.

  • One of my fav country bands. Love them

  • Do you ever notice with this group how neat they always dressed, which is more than i can say for the so called acts being shoved down our throats they call country

  • The DRB hit #26 in Billboard, 5-30-87. God bless!

  • I always wanted the Dillards and the Flying Burrito Brothers to mingle. One of the best bands ever. Chris Hillman's final hurrah. Best version of this song however was the New Riders of the Purple Sage.

  • These guys are beyond defining as words can never do it justice for how great these guys are. I don't mind the country music of today, but this is the best.

I sit and play the guitar along with this and it just gets you right into it, and it really does have that extra what it takes to catch your attention.

Great job, and you are the best.

  • The Desert Rose Band is now back together again with the original lineup and they are doing some touring. Go to chris hillman dot com to find out more!

  • how great were they....even better live! today's "musicians" should take note that talent always wins out. thanks for this great post.

  • Really great post!

  • Great band. I have been so lucky to meet Jay Dee Maness when he was in Norway in 1997 and 2001. He teach me a lot on the Pedal steel. He is a fine man.

    Kjell

  • Love this band and Miss them!!

    Thanks for sharing!!

  • If I had a chance to put together and band and a sound - this would be it. This is one of my favorite groups of all time. When they hit the scene, it was like someone came up with music just for me. These days, they wouldn't probably make it to country radio, because they are more country than most of the crap on the radio these days.

  • I Agree rockon. Desert Rose Was An Extension From The Music That Gram Parsons Did........Chris And Gram Will Be Soulmates ( In music) For Eternity.....

  • I was in the audience at this show. Great memory

  • @TimCookFishing

    Hello Tom,

Great to hear you were at this show in Austin 1987/1988? Could you remember which songs they played over there? Please PM them to me. Thanks

  • @TimCookFishing Is that you at 3:05? lol

  • yeah these new country upstarts and L.A producers have ruined country music and nashville today they may as well rename nashville the pop crap music capitol of the world cause it aint country no more its crap. the desert rose band was agreat country rock band and sure miss there music amen.

  • Do you miss your English classes as well?

  • @SumnerMurrayRedstone

Who are you, the grammar nazi? youtube still suprises me to this day with all of the idiots like you who have to attack people for no legitimate reason.

  • I refer to Nashville as Trashville. That's all that comes out of there anymore nowadays. Just listen to talentless losers like Taylor Swift. She makes me want to literally throw up. She has no idea what country music is really supposed to sound like.

  • thegreatestBANDever.....they are all stars....I loved CCR, Doobies,ZZTOP, BUT THESE GUYS ARE MY VERY FAVORITES of all time!!!!

  • i remember the song but not this group really nice ha ...........:)

  • this is pure COUNTRY !!! the shit Nashville is throwing at us to day does'nt come close to this

  • You're absolutely right! What Chris, Herb, John, Bill, Jay Dee and Steve tried to accomplish wouldn't work in a Nashville that sucks nowadays. In fact they had problems there because their country was Californian - better than Brooks, Martina, Urban, McGraw - lol - or the rest of the faux singers.

  • @tonski79 Not a bit. I'll be goin to see George Strait next week. THat's country :)

  • @tonski79 AGREED MY FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TRASHVILLE= SHIT MUSIC POP AND ROCK

  • @tonski79 Thats really true, save the quality- because she survive more than a half of century !

  • Great band! The steel player is JayDee - don't remember the last name - but he was with Buck Owens for a long time. The song has been recorded by just about every big name in classic country - including Buck Owens.

  • Jay Dee Maness.

  • Jay Dee Maness

  • @Poconobuc Dicky Lee wrote this song, He also wrote she thinks I still care...Patches...

Great song one of the best real country bands to ever hit the stage period!. All of them LOVED Buck Owens..they grew up listening to Beatles,Del Shannon Buck Owens,Jerry Lee Lewis

and sort of threw it ALL in the mix GREAT!.

  • @obamabasher1 get a grip buck was an asshole and check BMI Jack and Jim Anglin were the writers

  • The suits are called Nudie suits.

  • Gosh! I miss country music. It's a crime what passes for country music nowadays.

  • Really miss this great group. One of the very best ever.

  • Burritoesque don'tcha say?

  • I also remember hearing a version by Russ & Becky Jeffers

  • Their version of "Ashes of Love" was my itnroduction to Desert Rose Band. Thanks for posting.

  • With every video you post I remember how much I loved this band. I still do. I am so grateful I got to see them in concert on several occasions. I really miss them.

  • Does anyone have this song by Johnnie & Jack? I always thought their version was best.

  • real old school!

  • I forgot how much I loved the Burrito Brothers type outfits! They really added a bit of fun to a great band!

  • Wonderful stuff. Thanks Steph!
