Even though its insualting... you can kinda blame janice and ross... The way they did this... they recorded the chipettes at 33.3 x 45.... but the chipmunks 33.3 x 78... So, in other words, if you pitch the voices to -9 semitones... the boys sound real, but the girls have their voices lowed to sound like a guy because their real voice is at -4.5 semitones

(Sorry for the late response) It's not fake, and they're not really sung by men. The pitch is wrong. Janice Karman and Ross Bagdasarian Jr were set to different pitches, so just changing the pitch for the whole song doesn't work. (It isn't the right pitch anyway, because they're supposed to sound like Dave who is also played by Ross Bagdasarian Jr.)

That's the problem with pitching. Downing it by half only works for Ross, not Janice... but Ross sounds too low too.
