Whe all of you sittin at computer monday morning quaterbacks are bashing those who made a judgement call to use the booster, maybe just maybe you and your department dont have the tactical judgement to know when and where to use the booster. A lot of depts have taken the booster off because they dont have control over their firefighters. Its a judgement call.I would rather have water quick than having to stretch the preconnect and have the fire out.. this car was not fully involved
holy shit did they really open the hood with theyre hands, thats how people get burnt man gloves or no gloves 2000 degree metal is still 2000 degrees then he reached under the hood, holy balls you woulda just got in serious crap in my dept.
The fact that anyone would even attempt to use a booster line to knock down a fully involved room is disturbing. In Texas, booster lines are not allowed for fire attack in any situation. No, an 1 3/4 would not have saved the car, but its about giving the firefighter the apropriate gpms need to safely fight the fire. What if the firefighter had to go to a full fog pattern to protect himself? I don't think a full fog from a booster line would be sufice.
Some so called expert said that fire engines should be lime yellow and many departments jumped on it without every really checking it out. It took many years for these dept to return to red. Some still have the yellow apparatus, but they are no safer than the red rigs. In my opinion pulling booster lines off fire apparatus because some so called expert says they are insufficient is a terrible mistake. You don't need an elephant gun to kill a mosquito.
Amen, all of our engines don't have boster lines but our attack unit does. It's way easier to use a boster line in situations like this, the fire isn't going anywhere and isn't endangering any structure, so why use and elephant gun when a mosquito line will work just as good???????????
I see no problem here with the booster line use. That's the best knockdown of a car fire I've seen on Youtube and I've seen plenty of people fuck them up with 1.5 and 2.5 inch lines.
I think it might have something to do with getting water on the car fast without having to lay larger hoselines.
The pumpers here in Australia run the reel line off a high pressure stage giving us 60gpm no sweat. The high pressure stages can deliver 100gpm @ 800psi. We use them for nearly everything!!!
I have a video on YouTube showing a car on fire and it is upside down with a person trapped. If the fire engine driver would have had to stretch a 1 3/4 line I don't think the firefighters would have had time to make the save. Do a search on youtube for "MVA - Overturned Car on Fire Person Trapped.
Why is that? Do you think a 1 3/4 inch line would have saved this car? How about a 2 1/2 inch line or maybe a 3 inch line. I've seen them put a totally involved room out with one blast from a booster line. Where is the idea to get rid of booster lines on fire engines coming from?
shouldnt he have had the line on when the other guy opened the hood...so that it would choke the oxygen from the fire underneath and keep it from blowing up in his face?
Great video. Nice use of the booster line... I hate repacking hose after a minor car fire. Of course there will be days where you need more water volume, but you guys handled that well.

anyone want to buy the car it is one hot deal...we never use booster lines on car fires only inch and half foam lines.

Booster line is way too small for a cae fire, thats why they are no longer NFPA approved 1.5 minimum.
arffII 2 years ago
What NFPA Standart is this under? It appears that the booster line handled this fire pretty darn good.
zaffdoc 2 years ago
I agree with arffll, booster lines should never be used for car fires no matter how involved they are.
