Riot gear looks intimidating and authoritarian. That's why people use the photos of it. The truth is that when riots happen, police use riot gear and crowd control/dispersion techniques to safely dispel rioters, to make streets SAFER. I'm not 100% pro police. They often do horrible and corrupt and illegal things. I don't deny or make excuses for that.
I think it's kind of dumb how some people use pictures of police in riot gear to represent out of control government or brutal/corrupt police forces. I don't know of any instances in the last 3 decades in the US where police in riot gear have brutalized or otherwise harmed a group of people.

@182below0 Hey asshole they do, we just have underpaid teachers and unfunded schools. they spend 5 times what we do in Europe and japan per kid that we do. Even if the kid does not want to learn, a combination of the parents showing them cool stuff on the history/discovery channel added to what they see at school will lead to smarter kids. I will agree the system is messed up as I said it is so underfunded that some1 should be near killed.

@tilidin Yeah I totally agree that parents need to be more involved, but they're not. Most parents are content to use school as a daycare. Also intelligence isn't something that can be taught. It's all relative to the population. There will always be the same percentage of average people, the same percentage geniuses, and the same percentage of stupid people. But intelligence is not teachable, it's genetic. You can improve critical thinking, but you can't increase capacity for learning.
