SO we can't light up a single person with a M2 but blow one MFer up with a 2k lb bomb... hmmm, welp whatever gets the job done I guess. Dude's fault for not gettin' the pic that he might wanna leave before he vaporizes...
Hey kiddo, i see you haven't got a life yet, it's pretty sad... But hey, as i said, since i'm not responsible, this is none of my concerns. The head is alright, thanks for asking though.Ok, enjoy your (low) life :p
Because their methods are based on disproportionnate force to minimize probabilities of losses. A sniper vs sniper engagement would have meant an equal encounter, which cannot be acceptable in terms of risks. Now if it costs millions dollars in infrastructure damage and civilian loss, is secondary.
gryzorx - which branch of the military did you serve in, and which conflict have you been involved in?
Every encounter I have been in has been about survival. Certainly we do have "rules to war" that are legally defined, but if you have an embedded sniper(s) in a concrete or stone structure where line of sight is an issue, I simply cannot see where calling in air support could be considered "disproportionate".
Well i guess we don't share the same vision on that particular engagement. There were other ways (though more subject to risk as i said) to overwhelm or corner this sniper, considering he is outnumbered, isolated, probably surrounded and outgunned by forces in presence visible here, specially that armor firing once. But there's no point continuing, since we obviously wouldn't agree on the issue, and this is no place for a military debate in my opinion.
Then I shall take the last word. While sitting here in a cozy place, we can make assumptions such as there being an isolated singular presence within the building. Soldiers actually in the arena fighting do not have that luxury. They do not get the time to mentally masturbate over what may, or may not be. They simply do not get line of sight or fire, and call in support. To them, there is no price payable for one of their commrades lives. Fairness by your standards does not come close.
Well i'm not sure the hundreds of thousands of innocent people who lost their loved ones because of such "comradeship concerns", would find it so normal. The implied unnecessary use of additionnal force in unadapted situations made countless people die to minimize risks for soldiers only. As you said, the boys do not have the luxury of thinking about anything but their own lives and their comrades' ones. Unfortunatly that also excludes considering neighboring, non combatting human lives.
Well, since you are obviously not an intellecutal pauper, and have thought deeply on this subject, do pray tell and share with us your thoughts of all the innoncent lives lost in places such as New York City, Pearl Harbor, etc. I would love to be enlightened by your wisdom.
Well i guess i find them as horrible as the ones in Iraq, since i don't make any difference between human lives based on their nationality or ethny. Except maybe the difference in numbers (thousands in NYC, vs hundreds of thousands in Irak), and the big difference in terms of context. And millions died the same year as Pearl Harbor, all nationalities alike. My "standarts" tend to balance the risk to be taken by a foreign soldier whose job is to fight and a local civilian who has to pay its price
I don't really get this one, since "we" can be taken as the civilians or the soldiers. If they are the civilians you're talking about i guess there's not much they can do about it, since they happen to live here in the place of an unpredictable armed encounter... but i guess we're luring ourselves into the endless debate i was talking about...
And also, a bomb dropped by and aircraft would have taking out the entire building!! which does not happen in this case! It was deffenitly the tank that fired and killed the sniper!
It was not a 2000lb bomb at all but a GMLRS round.
Also to the douche complaing about the troops cheering, they tend to do that when the person trying to kill them is eliminated for fucking obvious reasons and as someone else pointed out unless you have been there its all to easy to criticise from the comfort of your armchair.
Next time you wanna answer something i said, reply it directly to me. And you're the douche, i explained my point the best i could to someone who told me the same thing as you. If you still disagree, i don't give a damn fuck, anyone can have its opinion on anything. But that doesn't grant you the right to insult me for so few. And FYI, i've been in war, not Iraq though, i and did NOT cheer like that. Fucking useless moron.
Actually this is a GMLRS unitary rocket with "only" a 200(two hundred)pound warhead fired from an MLRS vehicle up to 70 KM away. A 2,000lb bomb would have destroyed that whole block and seriously endangered the friendly armored and infantry units in the area. Multiple rockets can be fired from the MLRS in seconds and they can be coordinated mid flight via satellite to all impact simultaneously on the same target or each on separate targets. It is a very devastating weapons system
They're laughing about destruction.... they're litterally FASCINATED by the damn deadly "fireworks"... it's sad to come this point... impressive explosion for a ground based weapon system though, technically speaking.
Believe it or not, I know what a war is (otherwise i wouldn't have allowed myself to "question their reaction" to quote your words, and if i don't feel the same way about their behaviour, that's my point, not yours, and it's my right to disagree, and also not to be insulted for it. Did i insult them ? No. Did i turn this into a political debate like so many other similar irak-related videos ? No. So YOU, stop bitching and fuck off.
Getting shot at pisses you off, when you then have a chance to blow up the mother fucker that was just trying to kill you, its only natural to find a release of all that adrenaline. Commonly by yelling, cheering or even laughing. This has historically been the case for thousands of years from the Romans to today, we are still human with fight-or-flight instincts. Back then it was the battle cry, now a days its "fuck yeah" or something.
That's a point, but i don't think we can compare wars back in the Romans era to the kind of mess we use to call wars nowadays,
Back then, contexts, vision of life and death, causes, moral approach of battle itself with all the codes and stuff ppl had when fighting, can in no way be compared to what happens in modern era. Even by fully admitting your reasoning, that's precisely one of the things i hate in war, and that's why i use the term "sad" to qualify this.

What it really looks like is the incompetent tank crew (many of our boys are) accidentally fired an AP round first and then the appropriate HE round.

i was thinking exactly the same thing. one sniper, vs a bunch of soldiers, and a tank, and they still have to call in a bomb.
tonytwotime 3 years ago 2
why didnt they just send a sniper to deal with the sniper i mean, a couple thousand dollar bomb compared to a couple cents bullet.

that wasnt a 2000lb bomb, you idiot!
That whas the tank firing and destroying the rooftop, you can see the dust rising up when the tank fired
Pilots wont drop a 2000lb bomb when a friendly tank is just 15m away from the target!!!
