  • I did not know that Marty Robbins had ever sung this song. I grew up with the Jim Reeves version and always loved it. Marty did a wonderful job with the song as he did on everything that he sang. I am glad that you posted it here.

  • my mum sung me this song when I was 10. She was taught by missionary teachers back in the 70s. Now I am 26. Its the first time I have listened to this song in digital. Awesome!!!

  • GREAT SONG!!!!

  • This is the first time I've heard all the words to old number nine. I've heard the song all my life but there were some missing lyrics. Thank you so much. Marty sounded like he would have been alot of fun to hang out with.

  • I love this song. He was a great singer.

  • He expects his fiancee to stay true till she dies? What a selfish bastard.

  • My Lord ... what a voice!

  • I like the new audio quality settings on mp4ify. Awesome site 2 get mp3s or mp4s from youtube.

  • This is good!

  • i am biased. marty' version is better. but jim reeves was great also.

  • this is sparta

  • i am a big fan of jim reeves and love his version of this, but hey come on, isnt this truly great also? And you will be amazed to know that Jim was a big fan of Marty's , so he probably heard this version first anyway! Thank you so much for posting this Tarquin.

  • I love Jim's version and would argue that his version tops Marty's because he had the RCA session men accompanying him on his cut whereas Marty was just accompanying himself on guitar. I think Jim would have heard a version of the song long before Marty's as it probably dates from the 20's or 30's and Vernon Dalhart, but I'm not sure.

  • I remember this being sung on an old 78 in1930/31 by Big Bill Campbell and his Rocky Mountaineers

  • Both versions in their own right get 5*****s from me

  • Why are you clowns so rude. Listen to Jim Reeves if you want to. Jim was one of the greatest country singers ever. It's called respect, which their is not a hell of a lot of now day's. It's all in the raising!

  • another REALLY GOOD version is TEX CARMEN if you get a chance....i have it on an old record

  • His voice is what makes him different from othe singers, That is his talent.

  • This song is on an Edison cylinder record.

OMGosh...so nice to hear the great Marty Robbins has preserved this song for future generations.

    Thanks for posting!

  • I never thought I'd find this song! My grandfather used to sing this to me. Thanks a million!

  • I have a a record of this with Pop Stoneman does it as good as I have ever heard my opinion of course.

  • I have this by Jim Reeves (on Vinyl) - in my humble opinion, its 'better' than this version. Maybe because its faster and more heavily produced.............

  • I have been trying to find Jim Reeves singing this. Where did you get it, and can you tell me which album it came on? Thanks. Wonderful old song and Reeves is the best.

  • Hello, I got my copy of Jim Revves doing this on Limewire. Hope this helps.......

  • its on the tall tales and short tempers album

  • Thank you so much for posting this!! I'm 55 now, but I can still hear my Dad singin' this to me when I was just a little kid. Thanks again.
