The point is to show people are well educated at the school that makes this commercial. I can't believe that no one gets this...

Italian has more word than other european languages, has more form of the verbs than Dutch, and it's a more tone language (accent isn't every time on the first syllable). The only "easy thing" of Italian is that it hasn't vowel's dipthongs, the only dipthongs are for consonant, "sc", "sch", "sgh", "gn", "gl", "ch" and "gh".

I'm swedish and I've learn Italian like German, English, Norwegian, Danish, Old Norse, French and Saami, and I can tell to you that Italian it's the more hard from these languages that I've learn.

first off, this isn't an attack to anyone, it's a commercial about a school, the joke is that the waiters don't expect him to speak italian, but seemingly he learnt to do so (hensing the school).
second, i don't speak a word italian, so I don't know if the dutch translation is correct, but it isn't nice if they start saying like: "better you than me, later she'll just look like her mother", or "quit a prestation for such an ugly guy" going for the translation.

@mimekoning No, because Dutch is a German Languages, and German Languages are not complicated. Old Norse and Icelandic are the only 2 exeptions. Italian has more word than other european languages, has more form of the verbs than Dutch, and it's a more tone language (accent isn't every time on the first syllable). The only "easy thing" of Italian is that it hasn't vowel's dipthongs, the only dipthongs are for consonant, "sc", "sch", "sgh", "gn", "gl", "ch" and "gh".

@mimekoning Italian too have so much exceptions, all the words have a different accent! And ALL the German Languages has irregoular verbes, that isn't a difficult of Dutch only. I'm swedish and I've learn Italian like German, English, Norwegian, Danish, Old Norse, French and Saami, and I can tell to you that Italian it's the more hard from these languages that I've learn.

@micromij For a dutchman there is no special significance in the fact that the waiters are italian. It could've been any foreign restaurant. The joke is that the guy coming in speaks in a horrible dutch accent, making you suspect he's not very cultivated until suddenly it turns out he speaks fluent italian. The fact that so many italians are offended by this commercial says a lot about the way you view yourselves...

First: I've never heard words here against Dutch people (more, I know two women from Holland married with Italians/Romans, Karla and Ivette). What we Italians do not understand is the FREE attack against italians in the commercial: what's wrong with waiters joking each others talking about girls or women they know??? it's nice, a free wisecrack could be sayed also by people sitting at the table (that instead prefered insulting waiters unpleasantly)

first off, this isn't an attack to anyone, it's a commercial about a school, the joke is that the waiters don't expect him to speak italian, but seemingly he learnt to do so (hensing the school).
second, i don't speak a word italian, so I don't know if the dutch translation is correct, but it isn't nice if they start saying like: "better you than me, later she'll just look like her mother", or "quit a prestation for such an ugly guy" going for the translation.
