@acer: Some 30 years ago I was playing rock guitar, and I could play ANY solo played by famous rock guitarists of the time. When I first heard a jazz guitar solo, I thought I'm gonna play this sleeping with one finger. When I actually tried to play it, I felt my fingers were falling off. Jazz is a totally different thing, chord changes and runs are not as standardized and routine as in most rock pieces.
If you want to be blown away like never before, check out Stanley Jordan. He's unbelievable. What he can do over changes is unbelievable. And he is without a doubt both the most lyrical and technically advanced guitarist there is.
I play a lot of air guitar to songs, but this stuff is so good I don't feel the need to play air guitar. I just sit and immerse myself in the groove, and what a groove!
@acer993 Jazz just demands more, it's like one of those college level novels, they're difficult but last you a long time to truly figure out and understand it; almost like other classics, except you re-read those classics without the challenge in mind of finishing or understanding most of what it has to offer.
I sure hope you appreciate a good book every now and then, or else everything I've just typed up was for nothing.
Awesome! this isnt my style of jazz but it proves that i didnt take up violin for othing. but i still think jazz piano has a more promising career for me. this is a great piece though!
Great clip! I hear connections with Western Swing in this one: the Light Crust Doughboys (w/Bob Wills) did this one as well. Although a different flavor, I hear mutual influences in Bob Wills/Texas Playboys and Reinhardt/Grapelli.
If you're trying to play this and getting frustrated, just remember one thing: Django did it with 2 fingers.

That's a great surreal photo of Fred Astaire and Django. Well done.

It's based of the original black & white photo. I was wondering when someone was going to comment on the picture.
Thanks.
