bure was a great player for the canucks but his career is blemished by his demand for a trade. Therefore his number will never be traded or at least now the ring of honour.
I just wanna say that i would have demanded a trade as well. why? cuz you bring messier whose almost done and u pay him a shit load more then your start player to have him there. Pavel ate messier for breakfast how much of a better player he was. We can all thank Mr burke for the stupidity of that. he fucked up in toronto too giving away the first 2 draft picks for phenuf wow. anyways....Pavel is also better then linden and deserves to have his jersey lifted at gm place.
BTW as a canuck fan (dont hate) I have to be honest, I don't think we are ever going to win or get as close to the stanley cup until we have that special 1 person dominating force again....if ever....I mean luongo is great, he just can't score goals...and you need goals to win a hockey game
In case yiu haven't noticed, Offense isn't the problem with the team, It's the defense and consistent goaltending from luongo, Canucks are 2nd in the league in scoring, I'd say they have no problem scoring goals
The Russian Rocket would have been the greatest Russian to play the game except for the knee injury problems. Also the fact that Alex the great is now what Bure could have been had he stayed healthy and had the size of Alex, but still he was fearless and the greatest Canuck ever and sometimes I still wear my Bure Canuck jersey for old times sake, a true legend
if any of you people ever read the book, the riddle of the russian rocket, you'll see how badly the canucks treated him, and didn't the X-files leave vancouver about the same time ?
i lived in vancouver when bure played there and he was a " G O D " i remember some games when him and mogilny were on the power play and the other team would just stand around and watch them and as an intersting point of fact there is an X-files episode called " 3 " which is filmed in Pavel Bures house, just in case you're interested to see how he lived back in 1994
what thats awesome, i didn't know that but i wanna go check that out now lol. Man i wish i could have seen some live games back then. Canucks may never have another player like Bure.
He was a lot of fun to watch... I hope the Canucks luck out and get another guy like that in the next few years. Seeing these goals, there's some amazing memories here. It proves that sometimes you can't count on the first overall draft choice...
this is truly the greatest Bure video package here. Bure was truly a speciemen to behold man, when you see him in game its something special. I love the way Ovechkin plays the game, he is truly exciting, but in my opinion, there will never be as exciting a player as Bure, including today with its many exciting and talented players. The canucks game back then with Quinn coaching was very open, and he flourished.
ovechkin faces goalies who play way better and in a time when less goals are scored hes still averageing 55 goals a season, im not saying ovechkin is better, but its a different style of play now.
I've watchedthe Canucks since 1970. He was the best offensive player they ever had, and I have ever seen in a Canuck uniform. No one can touch him still to this day.....
went to a lot of games when bure played... loved him.. too bad the way he left van and the way the fans treated him.. like suire says though,, will always have the highlights..
No, he didn't. Tikkanen was acquired mid-season. He just wanted to change to a high number. That was at the same time they got Mogilny, who was 89, and they were supposed to play together. But after 2 injury-plagued season, he changed back to 10.
Tikkanen did wear number 10 during the time Bure wore 96, but Bure's number changes had nothing to do with Tikkanen. Like I said, he changed to 96 months before the Canucks acquired Tikkanen in Jan '06. He changed back to 10 in the summer of '07 (Tikkanen was traded away in March '07). As I understand it, he went back to 10 because he'd had far greater success with that number . . . the 2 years he wore 96 were injury-plagued.
bure changed his number to 96 because that was the year he became a canadian citizen. you are right though, he changed back to 10 because of his injury and subsequent subpar performance after his first recovery.
Bure is the greatest player that the Canucks EVER had!!! He carried them to Game 7 of one the greatest Stanley Cup Finals ever, and some of the stuff he did during games..........sh!t players today don't have the balls to try.
Lol, one more thing, did you see how he absolutely vitimized Ray Bourque and that other silly Bruin.. LOFL. Was that before or after Lemieux did that to old 77? Beautiful!
One more thing, what is it about some of these russian born players and scoring goals? Molgilny, Fedorov, Bure... Wouldnt that have made a nice line.. I think they actually were a line in the WJ championships one year. If anyone is going to carry on Pavels legacy as the greatest pure goal scorer in the world I think it will be ovetchkin. Great skill and great passion.
I remember watching that first game. It was unbelievable. I agree with Ronning in this video, id never seen anyone skate that fast. I remember one rush they dont show here where I believe the canucks were attacking one on two. suddenly from the left side of the tv screen its bure and now its a 2 on 2, then a 2 on one then before you can blink, hes got a breakaway. Im not a Canucks fan by any means, but as long as Bure played there, Id watch.
To the guy saying Bure wasn't really that great think about the fact that every season he was healthy he scored at least 50 goals, and this was during a period where clutch and grab hockey was nearing it's peak. Even now when they've "freed" up the skilled players you won't find anyone able to score as many goals as Bure.
If he played now, he would easily dominate the goal scoring race, how would you stop him if you can't grab or hook him?
tbh i couldnt give a shit wt any of you have to say bure was so dynamic everybody wanted to see him hate him or love him they wanted to watch bure play!! i idolised this guy the moment i saw him on t.v he was incredible n im a fkin leafs fan!! there myt be fast players n highlight scorers but thers only one bure!!
crosby would of got his ass kicked in old hockey. hes only good in new hockey rules. in the playoffs he was on his knees most of the time cuz someone gave him a lil push haha bure was a goal scorer but crosby is better overall
The stuff Bure could do at HIGH SPEED....closest thing is probable Ovechkin...Crosby can do lots of other stuff well, but can't compare with Bure on pure offensive talent.
Stop whining, you're comparing players but each of those are great players on their own, as is Bure . He was one great hockey player and at the time there wasn't a more exciting player to watch than him.
Ah thatswatsupp nice to hear mouthy 14 year olds spouting off once in a while,it just leaves all that warm and fuzzy feeling. We are not talking about stats, just raw and incredibly exciting talent. Now tell me,who here made comments to you here that warrant your pimple faced yob to open up?
i dont give a fuck about what u have to say. it doesn't mean shit. bure is a fuckin joke, like fedorov. yes, pure talent, but what did they do with it? ovechkin and crosby have already matched the greatness of bure. bure was a fuckin pretty boy who couldn't handle playing in the nhl.
Then they wonder why the NHL is in trouble. It is because we don't have players like him. Ovechkin comes close which is why he is watchable. But Crosby is too slow. Bure is the best player in history in my opinion. And I agree with what someone said that the guy killed himself for the goals. But if more players were like that, who aren't afraid to get injured, this league would be awesome.
To me he is the one of the greatest players in NHL. I love the way he skates with puck. No other players do that. And most of all I admire his speed, Pavel must be one of the fastest player NHL has ever seen. Its a shame that he didn't get the respect he deserved.
Too bad that the Russian Rocket had so many injuries in his late year seasons. He would have been one of the greatest goal scorers of all time.
Ovechkin and crosby need to see this. They ain't shit compared to the russian rocket! No player in history had that level of speed, agility and reaction time. The most explosive legs in the game.Wake me up when Anyone can pull me out of my seat like he did.The ultimate defenceman's nightmare!!!!
i think u need to shut the fuck up. bure was a puck hog and was talented, but is not even close to ovechkin or crosby. dont talk about what could have been, he wasn't as great as everyone said. he never scored more than 60 goals in his careeer. dont even bring lemieux into this. bure is a sell out. never even cleared 110 pts. in a season and crosby did that in his second season. bitch.
first of all I havent seen Crosby score 60 goals or Alex "the cheap shot" Ovechkin and lets see you do better! ps the cheap shot name is when he nudged Brier into the boards from behind
$100 says that IF he played now he would lead the NHL in points! So you may aswell just stop trying to prove me wrong...cause youll just look like an idiot! BURE WOULD RULE IN THE NEW NHL!
bure would not rule in the new NHL. he didn't even rule in the old NHL. how about the names Gretzky and Lemieux? he may have had pure offensive talent, but that doesn't mean shit. ok, you win, he had the most offensive talent, but he never took his team anywhere, he'll never touch crosby or lemieux or even ovechkin. the fastest doesn't always win you "GREATEST NHL PLAYER EVER" so stop sucking his dick you pussy
buddy, i live in pittsburgh, and i grew up watching the pens and i play hockey. dont talk to me about hockey. and uh, the questio is DO YOU watch hockey? bure and crosby are basically the same size. dumbass.
"...became the youngest player and the only teenager ever to win a scoring title in any major North American sports league...the seventh player in NHL history to win the Hart Trophy, Art Ross Trophy, and Lester B. Pearson Award in the same season--thus earning all three highest individual honors for an NHL forward in only his second year as a professional hockey player."
oh and uh...in fact there are 10 minute videos on two seasons of crosby's playmaking...versus 4 minutes of bures entire career. get your facts straight.
bure played 15 years ago man. long before youtube. if crosby does anything you can put it on here now, with bure you have to look through a decade of hockey archives which isnt exactly easy to do. bures career would take up more than 10 minutes. not to piss you off but i had to get that one out.
what part of this has been written about Bure? oh lets see...almost none of it. i rest my case. it doesn't matter who grew up with what in his family, if you love hockey then you pay respect to good hockey players, but you don't put offensive talent over OVERALL talent. and ps, one offenseman deking out another doesn't say anything about offensive ability. if bure deked out chara or pronger that'd be saying something.
@thatswhatsuppp Ovechkin is one dimensional and not a consistant threat on the ice he's 6 seasons in and everybody knows that if you keep him on the perimeter he cant score.... Bure could!, Secondly, Crosby has had a headache for the past year... Nuff said. Now who's a bitch???
Absolutely mind-blowing speed and puck control... Words can't even do it justice. I really wish things could have ended a lot cleaner than they did for him in Vancouver, he killed himself for us.
I'll never forget going to his first game. Amazing! By far the most electric player we have had on the team. Damn I miss him. He was never the same after he switched to #96.
Ovechkin, as much as I don't like him, he is one Hell of a Russian player, but if he were to go one on one against Pavel Bure, Bure would win.

what part of this has been written about Bure? oh lets see...almost none of it. i rest my case. it doesn't matter who grew up with what in his family, if you love hockey then you pay respect to good hockey players, but you don't put offensive talent over OVERALL talent. and ps, one offenseman deking out another doesn't say anything about offensive ability. if bure deked out chara or pronger that'd be saying something.

Please. Briere ADMITTED he dove and the little bitch ate the boards for his trouble.

He was never the same after he switched to #96.

after he switched numbers , it was like he got jinxed but till now, other than ovechkin, there is no player like him
