  • this kid this kid...dana he's not fucking 14

show some goddamm respect with your fat ass and call him a man, a kind of man you will never be!!

  • Shields is going to get crushed

  • i wonder what does it take 2 stuff gsp's takedowns.i mean he can takedown the greatest wrestlers with ease and my question is how, they all use the same technique in wrestling but gsp does it so much better.

  • one more time rematch with gsp thiago alves for sure might win i got confidence

  • jake shields will take gsp's belt

  • @TheMrpalid impossible

  • @JDkillaBoY completely possible, shields is a real fighter not a 5 round smotherer

  • @TheMrpalid Jake Shields is the epitome of a "5-round smotherer." Boring as hell to watch, compared to any other mma fighter who uses wrestling as their main style. His last 3 fights have gone to decision, because he doesn't finish. GSP is more of a fighter than Shields is. He's well-balanced, and has alot more to offer than just wrestling technique. When you compare their records, you tell me which looks more impressive.

As far as I'm considered, GSP has superior technique, and WILL win.

  • yeahhhh roll on august 7th.....

  • Thiago Alves failed a brain scan right before a UFC fight. He had brain surgery immediately after. He was scheduled to fight just weeks later. Think about that.

  • i want to see the rematch of thiago alves vs jon fitch

  • @birdhouse0920 I think everyone does. It's been postponed like 20 times.

  • @birdhouse0920 someone answered your prayer

  • Hughes couldn't take him down? Lol, he took him down. He had a lot of trouble getting TDs but def got at least 1 if I remember correctly. I know Thiago was on his back once or twice.

  • Jake Shields is the only real threat to GSP. A fight with Alves and Fitch would also be good fun. the UFC needs to get Shields. There are no good alternatives, Swick and Hardy have 2 top20-30 wins each, no top 10 wins. Shields has 6 top 10 wins and 13 top 20-30 wins. COME ON GET REAL. Swick vs Hardy for GSP

  • @oakmantex

to tell you the truth i don't even see shields as a threat, GSP is simply better on the ground, which is shields' only real strength! I actually think the type of fighter who would have a chance is an exceptional striker with ridiculous take-down defense. Then again that's what alves was supposed to be so who knows?

  • @Whiterabbit3434 yeah basicly we need a 170 pound verison of a prime chuck liddell to even have a certain chance against gsp, but yet again jon fitch has a chance but he still has some more match ups to do before gettin a title shot imo.

  • @Whiterabbit3434 You need Thiago Alves with Chuck Lidell's take down defense.

  • @oakmantex Shields definitely is not taking GSP's belt. Only person in the division right now with a shot is Jon Fitch. The dude is hungrier than ever after his first loss to him. Fitch should be the other coach for the new season of TUF not Koscheck.

  • @oakmantex i still think alves is way more dangerous than shields and he still only 25... i think shield would get his ass handed to him by gsp because shield is a wrestler with good bjj skills and gsp is amazing on the ground (better than shields?possibly) definetly a better wrestler and shields stand-up game is weak, very weak. Alves would smash him as well. The only reason he beat dan henderson is because dan didnt come in very good condition but in the first round he was destroying shields..

  • @oakmantex I dunno after barely getting past Kampmann i think Koscheck is GSPs biggest threat, good wrestling and could resort to having the fight on their feet.

  • Swick might come out with the surprise win over gsp. I would hate to see that gut i get the feeling he is.

  • Gsp greatest fighter

  • you guys are all fools! I like mike swick, but his wrestling and his ground game are noowhere near the levels of gsp. didnt swick get handled by okami awhile back, and okamis a beast but he aint no gsp.

  • Give Anthony Johnson a shot

  • i know right wtf r the title policies in the ufc popularity rumble johnson needs a shot

  • Anthony Johnson isn't quiet ready for GSP..Give him like 3 or 4 more fights and he will be ready for the likes of Swick,Alves,Fitch,GSP..

  • @shaun0069 Why are you putting Swick up in the top 4?

  • Just watched the fight again.

There were three instances where GSP nearly chopped down Alves with leg kicks/sweeps. So much for Alves having the better kicks.

  • but he didnt.

  • As I said, he "nearly" chopped him down. I meant to say it that way. Watch the 3rd round again and you'll see GSP right leg buckle Alves' left leg badly and Alves loses his balance and nearly falls. Alves never came close to having that effect on GSP, because he didn't land a single solid kick like that.

  • Realoity Check for Alves fans .....

One fighter was bloodied and it wasn't GSP. One fighter was knocked down from a straight right hand and it wasn't GSP. One fighter had zero takedowns and it wasn't GSP (who had ten). One fighter that was supposed to be a deadly striker didn't land a single flush shot, his name was Alves. One fighter clearly lost every round and it wasn't GSP.

  • i do give gsp credit. its just that he couldnt finish alves. i know he injured himself in the 3rd round, but he had chances in the first 2 rounds to end it. like i said i give him props for the win, but i would LOVE 2 see him get ko'd like bisping. that was amazing

  • You give GSP full props, but would also like to see him KO'd?

  • first off i don't give him full props. but absolutely i wanna see him get KTFO cuz im tired of seeing his hand raised. hopefully mike swick can beat martin.

  • And you suppose Swick brings something other than a Serra-like chance to threaten GSP?

  • well Swick has really good kickboxing nd a solid ground game. he has a better chance than Serra did, but not much more than that. nd what about Rumble Johnson?

  • gsp was injure, gsp pulled his abductor longus haha so he had a hard time fighting

  • cant wait to see this fight.i think ALVES will win because he is a fucking mexican beast who has great power to knock you the fuck out but also is really fast & technical with his stand up.also a great wrestler .BUT lets not forget about GSP,thats bad ass dude also.he is so well rounded and strong i do think it will be a hard fight for ALVES, but i think ALVES will win by knock out. BTW- BJ PENN IS A LITTLE CRY BABY RICH BOY BITCH!!

  • I can't say who will win, we all know how GSP and Serra went the first time, GSP isn't going to make the same mistake twice.

I'm going GSP all the way, it's just that Thiago has that one hitter that can and will change the entire fight. It's not like GSP doesn't know that, so he'll be prepared for it.

This is the biggest fight in both fighters' careers. It doesn't really matter who wins, because they'll both learn something after the fight.

  • alves is not mexican hes from brazil

  • My vote is on GSP cause he is one of the smartest fighters in the UFC. He studies his opponents weaknesses and exploits em. When you are world champ you are not going to be fighting chumps and when really good fighters fight GSP he makes em look like its there 1st day in the gym. GSP never used any grease fighting BJ pen. BJ makes an excuse after every fight he loses go back to any fight hes lost and show me 1 where BJ didnt have some excuse for why he lost. BJs a good fighter but a sore loser.

  • My bet is on the grease GSP uses. Undeniably the greatest grease ever. Slip out win first round.

  • Watch the fight at freetvfeeds (.) com

  • dana white doesn't know shit. He was never a fighter so he's just talking out of his ass all the time.

  • actually, he was a boxer back in the day.

  • ehh still hate the guy. and boxing isn't mma

  • George has been fightin like a bitch, watch his fights.. he's scared.. but he is champion RIGHT NOW,,,

Alves is gonna do him like Anderson Silva does everybody and stay champ.

  • the other video Dana says thiago is 185,now he says 200+?

full of shit, get yer lies straight gees

  • Well shit I'm reading everyones comments and hands down everyones bet is on GSP!! Alves is a fuckin beast and everytime he fights he only gets better, so my vote is on Alves. But don't get me wrong it could be GSP who takes the win I just think he doesn't have a good game plan when fightin Alves!

  • I really don't get all the hype about Thiago being bigger and stronger and a better striker.....it's simply not true. Sure he's powerful with some of his strikes, but I'd bet money he's not stronger than GSP. I think GSP will muscle him around and take him down at will just like everyone else he's fought recently. And if he doesn't, GSP is still and excellent and powerful technical striker with what? Oh, at least a 6 inch reach advantage on Alves. I honestly believe Alves has nothing on GSP.

  • agreed

  • thiago is gonna smash gsp only way gsp will win is if he takes thiago down every round gsp has not fought someone as big and as strong as alves gsp has been bigger an stronger than everyone he has fought an was able to ise technique but also bully his oppents around he wont be able to just throw around alves his last fight was aginst a small bj penn an now hes fighting a monster in alves if he thinks serra had some powerful hands when he got knockout alves will knock his head off

  • yeah no way gsp can get him to the ground liek isn't that what they sayd about koshcheck vs gsp , and john fitch vs gsp .... didn't work out to much for them....

trust me alves is getting D-STROYED

  • The only way I see GSP winning is by submission. Alves is just too powerful for gsp. Also alves' take down deffense is incredible so I think gsp will have a hard time getting it to the ground. This will be a war though, both are great fighters with alot of mutual respect for one another. Will be both fighters biggest challenge so far but I still got alves in this one..

  • GSP will NOT stand and trade with Alves. He is stupid to do so. I expect wrestling and Ground and Pound from George. GSP remembers Serra's power and Alves is has way better stand up then Serra. It will be all ground work from GSP.

  • i met thiago 3 weeks before the hughes fight nd he was walkin around at 203 lol

  • He doesn't walk around at 200+ pounds. 190.

  • i think it will come down to is who wants it more there both at practicly the same level but gsp has the upper hand it depends on how both fighters prepared for the fight really too close to call could be another serra KO or gsp could pull out a win. im leanin for alves if gsp loses there definitly has to be a rematch

  • GSP by submission in 2nd round?

  • GREAT MATCH UP,,, for stand up, prepare for GSP to sexual assault Alves with or without VASELINE. XD

  • stupid comment and not even funny

  • No what stupid is your complaining, if you can't take a joke then you should not watch UFC. You take things to seriously. And GSP is a great fighter, but deep down inside we all know he will NOT knockout Alves standing up, he will fight like a puss.

  • fighting like a puss... wtf you really dont know nothing about UFC . dude its fucking MIXE martial art , so if gsp as a better ground aspect than alves a weaker stand up its just called smart to fight it to the ground... tseee GSP will destroi wrestler in stand up and will destroi striker on the ground... thats well rounded fighter.. learn you shit

  • ninjaface you should change your name to jizzface

  • why does dana white insist on saying "Alvs" instead of "Al-ves"...its not that hard

  • this guy thinks every other fight league is shit but they are all the same

  • I cant stand this guy he is such a suck, and is a fat slob who cant fight he is nothing but a loser

  • Why is he a fat slob? What has he done for you not to like him? He basically made the sport so stfu and respect the guy.

  • gsp all the way

  • Why does Dana say "Alvs" and not pronounce it the correct way like how everyone else does which is "Alv-es" and he is even the president of the UFC??? It's one of those strange things you wonder about...

  • thiago is a FUCKIN' BEAST! he's a badass

i honestly don't know who will when out of him and gsp

  • "Beast" is soooooooooo overused. . .

  • you dont know who will win out of gsp or alves? you must be new to this. of course gsp is going to destroy him... put whatever money you have on gsp and thank me later.

  • i've been watching MMA/UFC longer than anyone here.

this fight is to damm close i don't know who will win

  • yea you have been watching the sport longer than anyone here that makes sense because you know all of our backgrounds right. idiot. i started watching ufc when it first started out.. but who really cares about all that shit... anyone who knows MMA knows gsp is going to win this fight no matter how long it takes or how he ends it.

  • we'll see nigga!

  • gsp knows how to study who he is going to fight and put together an amazing and pretty much flawless strat for who he is going to fight.. i really would be shocked if he lost, i don't see it happening. also he is just as hungry to keep his belt as he was when he wanted it.. you can tell he wants it more.. go to vegas and put it all on gsp.

  • i never said that gsp would lose... i like him as fighter as much as anyone else does, he's a badass. but thiago will give gsp a run for anyone money

  • yeah but GSP will win. he has everything. alves is pretty 1 dimensional

  • Yeah, watching Thiago move and fight, I think he's going to be tough for GSP, especially looking at how he does when someone isn't scared to fight back, like matt serra, who isn't even that great of a striker. I think this is kind of like a Liddell rampage thing. gsp can strike, but alves is gonna throw back ,and hard.

  • i got to say I agree with semjb..

This is not a easy fight to putt your monny on.Every boddy talked aboute how difficult it was to monny on BJ vs GSP fight. although i didnt think BJ would stand a chance.. Alves is a dif. fighter then BJ and a better one I think, with hes knock out power and very nice kicks.. GSP vs Alves is a close call.. and I have a bad feeling that Alves will win. I dont know what I'm going to put on my fight card at UFC Fantasy yet, but we stil have a week.CANT F.. WAIT :)

  • yea true.

yea its going to be great.

  • when gsp was gonna fight bj penn, they said that it would go in a decision again and look what happen, this fight not gonna be close.for sure.

  • "Watching" MMA/UFC longer than anyone else, doesn't make you better at picking a winner. What might make a difference is if you've spent some time in the ring or octagon yourself, since there's no substitute for actually understanding what you're "watching".

I fight. I'm not great, but I study the stuff and practice the stuff. I don't see Alves having much of a chance, except a Serra-like KO. I don't think Alves will respond well to the new level of competition he'll suddenly be facing.

  • If you know your stuff so well, you should know that Alves have a good chance.Hes knock-out list is long and thers good fighters on that list! You cant take that away frome him and say "except a Serra-like KO." Thats just foolish if you ask me.especially when it comes frome someone who knows hes stuff :)

I love GSP,but Alves brings trouble no doubt.Alves is a fucking great fighter.Just check his wins.

And hey.I know my stuff to.come back to this post after the fight so we can see whos right :)

  • As I have been saying for months, Alves would loose an outside battle with GSP taking him down at will.

Alves wasn't even in this fight, as expected. He wasn't humiliated, but he was shown not to be on the same level as GSP.

  • Saying Aves is a "great fighter" and asking me to check Alves' "long" KO list clearly makes YOU look foolish. Sure, Alves has beaten some durable fighters, but he's also been a KO victim himself at the capable hands (actually feet) of Fitch. Alves hasn't beaten ANY top ten fighter that's in his prime or any top ten fighter that was actually fit and prepared to fight. His loss to GSP was very predictable, on that basis alone. Alves' ONLY hope was to "catch" GSP, but couldn't.

  • he couldnt knockout gsp cuz he didnt have a chance 2 hit him. in my opinion gsp was scared of the standup so he just took him down constantly. i wasnt impressed. u could say that he dominated on the ground... but i was more impressed with thiago becuz it showed that he can survive off his back. if gsp is so good at everything, y couldn't he finish off a fighter with "no ground game"?

  • What the fuck are you yapping about? GSP dropped Thiago twice or three times in the fight...

  • Thiago's greatest threat is his standup. He didn't land a single hand on GSP, even during exchanges where GSP was landing. Don't forget that GSP's hands actrually FLOORED Alves in the third round. Also, Alves' takedown defense was supposed to be unbreakable, but GSP took him down 10 times! One of Alves' strengths is his leg kicks, but he was able to land only two of his many leg kick attempts. Give GSP some credit dude, otherwise you look foolish.

  • thiago ftw!!!!!!!!!

  • Um, Dana? Thiago stopped Matt Hughes's wrestling? My man, Mr. Alves stopped Josh Koscheck's takedowns! One of the most accomplished wrestlers in all of MMA. Thiago Alves has some bad ass Muay Thai. Those leg kicks are crazy! If GSP can't get Alves down, he is in some serious trouble. That being said, GSP may be the best p4p functional wrestler in all of MMA. GSP trains at my Muay Thai school under Phil Nurse, so I'd love to see him win, but Thiago is so dangerous now that he has elite TD defense
