Yeah. I lived in a very ethnically diverse apartment complex in the early 2000's, mostly Russians, but some German, Spanish, and Croatian. During block parties, the most popular finger food was either thinly sliced raw ham or cubed bacon, also raw. Apparently it's common in their countries, and a delicacy.

At first the texture is what gets you squirming, but once you get past that, the flavor is PHENOMENAL. :-) I miss those block parties.

There is no such thing as "raw" ham. All ham is cured in some way, and anything harmful like parasites are destroyed. Bacon is cured as well, with salt/smoking. But yes, eating raw pork meat (or any other meat) that isn't cured can be potentially dangerous.
