The English dub is actually very good, as dubs go. The voice actor they used for Pasqualino is different than the Italian version, but is still excellent.

m i Chiedo perche' di questo bel film della Werthmuller ,la traduzione ed i subtitles ,mentre per Mimi' Metallurgico ,.... o altri ,sempre della Wrthmuller ,nulla; perche' vogliono esportare nel mondo questo bel film italiano (fra tantissimi bei film italiani dimenticati) ??? il perche' come sempre e' nella trama che rientra nel mito delal Shoah show ! if in a film there is the Shoah show, is ok, and have to be traslated in any languagge! I don't think it would be as powerful in english, as the language used is very peculiar, and it would be impossible to traslate, IMHO.

@p8hb I saw a version on tv with different subtitles - I don't remember much, but I remember that instead of `the ones who vote for the right...' it was `Some [people] vote for the right..."

As I say, I don't remember other differences, other than that I greatly enjoyed that translation.

Also "Quelli de li mortacci de li mortacci Pum!", traslated "The one who should have been shot in their cradle. Pum!", has a completely different meaning: "li mortacci tua" is a way of offending someone's dead relatives in roman dialect, something annoying for the singer, and almost untranslatable

Splendida sequenza d'apertura con colonna sonora firmata dal grande Enzo Jannacci (lui qui ebbe una meritatissima nomination all'Oscar); l'unica pecca sono i sottotitoli inglesi le cui traduzioni sono a dir poco "fantasiose".

Fra l'altro questa versione cinematografica di "Quelli che ..." differisce non poco, nel testo, rispetto al testo originale della title track dell'omonimo album del 1975 (cui sono seguite decine di versioni - live e non - diverse), il che la rende ancora più "chicca"!

I think I like the subtitles better than the dub, at least for this powerful opening. The Italian language is just so much more musical than the English that the insinuations of the English dub didn't add so much as might have been expected.

I should add that even if most of the phrases are well translated, some of them were adapted, changing the literal meaning.

For example:

after "The one who says we Italians" there is "are greatest he-man on earth. oh yeah.", while it should be "if they break our balls oh yeah" (much stronger and funnier to me).
