i was there the night this was recorded and the whole show was amazing. i have seen rhydian live five times and he is constantly note perfect. cant wait for the next tour possibly jan 2012. also recording a tv series in sept.love him
I admit to being a fan of Rhydian - but I am looking forward to the time when he is able to choose freely what he sings as I feel he could really challenge his fanbase. Yes to opera and lieder but also yes to musical theatre and rock. No to MOR rocking-chair songs!
Ah now I understand dontchahate well Hayley has sung with some pretty impressive Opera singers! Rhydian well he is working at the moment with Karl Jenkins! Whose work is 8th in the Classic FM Hall of Fame!
"Poor Rhydian"? Nana Mouskouri, who I used to pretend to hate, was more schlocky than Rhydian. She retired in her 70s after selling over 300 million albums (more than the Rolling Stones). She identified a market that she was suited to and nailed it. Rhydian is aiming at the "musical" and easy listening markets. Perhaps this is what he is best suited to? Remember, one man's schlock is another's favourite music.
When I read responses like RoseAnngie's and nickynackynoo's I realise that "fan" is short for "fanatic" with all the implications for free speech that word encapsulates. I think we need a new name for sensible people who want to support artists in a less alarming and emotionally dependent way.
And please...um...nickynackynoo123, let's not try to read too much into our pen-names.
Lets see the worlds leading Opera Baritone is Russian hes 50 years old and earns over million a year. Rhydian is only 26! Change of image? schlocky? this from a former fan? Lets see you were a fan of his X Factor performances? Well his tour brought back Showman Rhydian? The Duet revealed a side of Rhydian we had never seen! Please explain what you mean by change of image? Free speech and critic by all means but he is a better singer and artist today than two years ago. He sings globally.
A word's derivation is rarely its current meaning. The term "Fan" serves to cover a whole range of people. I am not suggesting that Hayley and Rhydian are the greatest singers on earth. I'm simply suggesting that people should be judged on what they are attempting to be, not what you or I think they should be. And that neither are they obliged to pander to my particular tastes. Britney Spears is damn good at what she does, whether it is to my taste or not. So was Pavarotti.
actioncomet, I'm sure ALW (not to mention his bank manager, lol) would dream of pulling off such a coup. These 2 in the stage show would be seriously big business at the box office. Maybe Rhydian would shock everybody and actually play Raoul instead of Phantom??
I heard the rehearsals were to be in August this year, and it to start in London in November. Both months in which HW doesn't seem to have any concerts scheduled. I haven't checked Rhydian's schedule. But now it's been reported that the sequel won't start to next year. Rhydian has certainly been tipped as a possible phantom. Still, Hayley has been doing a number of duets of this song with a variety of singers. I'd go for Rhydian as Phantom and Lee Mead or even Jonathan Ansell as Raoul.
Just thought i'd say here, that im sure i've read somewhere that the person who is currently playing Phantom in the original POTO has been recording the soundtrack. I can't remember where I read it, but if his recording the soundtrack then I think its safe to say that Rhydian won't be playing Phantom.
Although I think he would've made a really good Phantom, But I also think he shouldn't take a risk at going into a show thats new incase it ended up flopping or something.
I don't understand what you mean by "soundtrack". A stage musical won't have a soundtrack. A film might. I read that they have been working on and maybe recording some of the music, but that won't have much to do with who does the different stage roles though, will it?
It is a good point that it may flop, but if it goes well there will more casts needed.
Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess are supposed to have been working with Lloyd Webber but there are supposed to be three separate openings and three casts. About half-a-dozen odd people have been rumored to be playing each of the roles.
There's no chance of Rhydian playing any West End/Broadway role for at least a couple of years, believe me. His tour has just finished, he's straight back in the studio recording album 2 for a November release (presumably so he can again appear on XF to promote it), then I'm sure he will be planning his 2010 tour (bigger venues next time?). In between it wouldn't shock me to the core is he had a US launch (I'm sure Simon could get him on Oprah). I really believe the US would go nuts for this guy.
I was thinking of Rhydian doing the London Phantom, actually. But this may just be wishful thinking on my part. I thought I saw him being touted for it somewhere, but that may not mean much either. To be realistic Hayley would be an outside choice too, although I think she is developing her stage presentation more towards a little acting -- we have seen this in a number of her recent duets and of course we are seeing it here.
Yes, she sort of denied it. Or denied they were dating, but it did seem to be a rather "focused" denial. What is made public will be - as you suggest - designed for public consumption. Rhydian's fans seem largely approving, but Hayley's rather less so.
On the other hand, to paraphrase Winston Churchill, perhaps never have so many made so much out of so little? A stage kiss, is, after all, just a stage kiss, not a certain precursor, as some Rhydian fans seem to think, of imminent nuptials. Speculation about the likely attributes of their offspring - as is also happening on some Rhydian fan sites - might too, in all probability, still be premature.
Sqid101, to be fair to us Rhydian fans it would appear to be yourself who's obsessed with their 'relationship'. Personally, it's entirely their business and I'm just happy enough for them to continue to sing duets like this in the future no matter which path their private lives take. I think what has freaked some Hayley fans out is that this sort of thing is out of character for Hayley and she sort of did 'choreograph' the kiss. No matter, it's a stunning duet no matter what the 'back story'.
To be fair to me, I didn't say all Rhydiian fans were obsessed with it. I didn't use the word obsessed. I'm just reporting - joking around actually - about some of the talk that occurred. I'm sorry if you felt I was trying to knock Rhydian fans, that certainly isn't my intention. I'm essentially saying that it is a lot of fuss about nothing - do we essentially disagree?
Has what moved on? Reality? Or Image? Their PR departments are never idle and this is a romance made in heaven, don't you think? She cannot remain a "pure" teenager all her life -- that is going to quickly start to wear thin now she's older. Turning up out of the blue (almost literally) and smooching him on stage was a stroke of genius really. Handled properly this could knock Susan Boyle, Kathy Jenkins, Faryl Smith and Co off the front pages for weeks. ;-)
I rather he do more opera songs
