These videos really help, not only for street fighter but any fighting game, will spread the word of this awesome series to all the new players out there. Thanks! I am probably repeating what many have said but who gives a shit :D
Great tutorials ya got there! I already knew all of these things but it is always good to remember haha... I don't like SF4, though, I only play 3S and Guilty Gear/Blazblue, but your tutorials work on any 2D fighter there is. Thumbs up for ya!
@DillaWorld It's the only game I play and I only play on the weekend, there are a lot of concepts but they all become common sense as you play. The videos are just trying to give you an outline of what you should look out for as you play.
@DillaWorld Don't you feel bad when someone beats you at a game .. simple as that .. you lose because the other guy knows more about the game and practiced more .. besides .. street fighter is not just a game ... i think alot more skill is needed to play street fighter than to sell cheesburgers at mcdonalds right ? :D and the video maker told you that all this becomes your nature .. if you practice enough you wont feel like youre doing it .. its lik doing lplplplplp but better ;p
fantastic job here mingtongshi, you've broken this game down to the bare bones that could be applicable to practically any fighting game, i'm an obsessive DOA4 player and now i can see the correlation and translate my strategies from DOA into SF language and apply them in a real match; my only beef is that using your strategies often gets me ejected from rooms :P oh well usually gives me a good chuckle knowing i made someone cry, guess i'll have to start hosting my own matches from now on :)
I am one of those players who always loses because I do stupid shit. These videos have given me confidence and throws away my noobish preconceptions on how to win. Continue making more videos like this please.
i never had any interest in playing the street fighter franchise until SFIV came out. I was always a huge Tekken Fan...But Tekken is nowhere near as deep and complex as Street Fighter. Call me a convert ;p
Both 2D and 3D have a tremendous amount of depth. The thing is it's easier to create depth in 2D games than it is in 3D, because 3D games naturally need more options. While 3D games can be just as deep proportionally, they have to have more options present to achieve the same level of depth.
Watch some match videos of tournament play and pay attention to how they move around after they knock someone down. There is a lot of back and forth movement, this is partly to make them react to something that you aren't actually going to do. For instance after a knockdown you could wait briefly, walk into throw range, and walk just back outside of throw range and meaty sweep or hit low into a combo. This is better at baiting grabs and reversals than taunting.
I like to bait with taunts on knockdown sometimes... I don't know why it works, but higher end players tend to try to grab or jab, and lower end try to do extremely unsafe specials or ultras. Some do play it safe and back up when I taunt though, knowing what I'm doing.
Awesome tutorials man, I think I learned quite a bit that I didn't already know. But I won't know if I've shrugged off my scrubbiness until I get back out there, will I?

@PowerFusionX it's still a 2d fighter though >_>
jeremycarrier 11 months ago
@jeremycarrier It's 3D, but with a side view.
PowerFusionX 11 months ago
@PowerFusionX It's 3d models on a 2d plane of existence. You can only move left or right. It follows the rules of all 2d fighters.
It's kinda like how New Super Mario Bros DS/Wii is a 2d platformer, but uses 3d models

street fighter is not just some game when speaking for high level players. It is very unique in that sense.

I find for some reason people find SF lacking in depth because it's tied to the whole 2D space idea.

Wow, been playing for years but never thought of it like this. these videos alone will improve my game.
I kinda feel a bit stupid too for not realising some of the basic concept of the game.
Thanks
