It was his idea to have the meeting in the old conference room, even when he knew it was unstable, and when he said his cell phone was broken, he didn't show anyone, so how do we know he was telling the truth? Also, I still find it unlikely that he could estimate that accurately where the kitchen was. He freaked at them when they tried to find any computer operated doors, so maybe he doesn't want them to find something or let an...undesirable thing loose.
