Ok, I think the "movie" which was called "The Beginnings of TMNT" or something like that, wasn't really a movie but some kind of compilation from the 5 first episodes (it skipped the Mauser episode completely or atleast almost). The another series I think was this same series later on, I really don't know this series very well althought I watched endlessly on VHS as a kid. I think the animation and the mood changed a little later on?

I dislike this show, not for what it is, but for what it overshadows. When you ask almost ANYONE about TMNT, they think of this cheesy show. What I think of TMNT is the 2003 version of the cartoon which was far more mature. It was dark, had cool action and even character development (based on the original comic book). I understand people like this show cause its nostalgic, but I wish it dident overshadow the other show to such a degree.

Something people hate is how Doug lets the influence this had on his childhood also influence the review. But, to be honest, I find it refreshing. I mean, sure, there are those shows, movies, books, comics, whatever else I look back on and think "Wow, I had bad taste as a kid." but there are also those that I still hold dear to me even if it's nothing spectacular. So it's cool to see that Doug can look at something not necessarily through the eyes of a critic.

What really got this show started was when the author of the 1985 RPG sold his idea to Surge Licensing/Mark Freedman, who then consulted Playmates for the action figures and Fred Wolf for this cartoon, and of course you know the rest. That's how Turtlemania really took hold. I believe stuff from as late as issue 7 was inspired, as there is a reference in that issue to "News Channel 6", thus creating Channel 6 news.

One would have to wonder though; if Splinter was human in the original TV show, how did he end up in the sewers to begin with?
