  • Haunting Carol??? Is the most beautiful one ever!

  • Kudos to Anthony for a brilliant rendition !

However, I think I prefer a soprano for this song to cut through the orchestra and sing above it. Marina Prior's 2006 version will live forever as my favourite :) But well done and good job Mr Callea.

  • @saintinaustralien Although i respect your viewpoint, I can't agree. This rich deep sound cuts above the orchestra and choir to perfection. Best version ever for me.

  • What will he sing for us in 2011? Can't wait to hear.

  • FANTASTIC SINGING, ONE DAY IM HOPING TO BE THERE TO.YOU WERE GREAT...D.

  • Just had to come and relive this. Stunning voice. Love Anthony with an orchestra and soaring notes.

  • This is a truly lovely version of this song. Takes a great voice to do the song justice - as he does that.

  • Magnificent Absolutely Magnificent.

  • Wow! Anthony, would you ever consider doing a Christian CD? It would be fantastic and might even open some eyes to consider that anyone, regardless of their orientation, can still be part of the Christian experience and be an actual believer!!! Believe me, I know! I truly hope that you have considered this in your life.

  • C'est splendide!

  • The audio in this is horrible. What happened?

Anthony Callea is totally, totally awesome. Love to see and hear him hit the high notes. He has got to have the most amazing teeth of any singer I've ever seen or heard. They look like chiclets, for sure!

  • @ricardo522042 The sound was surging that night. I'm sorry but the reception/technical quality is never as good for this big live broadcast. It's fine for me at the moment but was echoing really badly when I checked your comment. I'm not sure what chiclets are - it doesn't sound complimentary. lol Never mind if you think he sounds awesome - I do too. Thanks for commenting.

  • @mairanya1

Saying that someone has teeth looking like chiclets is a HUGE compliment. Think about it -- chiclets are the pieces of gum that are nice, straight, white, perfectly shaped, and perfect to look at. I used to have a friend who was a model from Switzerland and he had that "trait." I didn't mean to upset you with my compliment. It's just that when you see a video of Anthony singing and click on that video, it'sdisappointing not to hear his voice without some background annoyance.

  • @ricardo522042 It's fine - I'm not upset thanks! I've never heard the word chiclets before - it sounded like something to do with chickens! I'm sorry - it's the best I could do with the broadcast that night.

  • @mairanya1

Thanks. I shouldn't have complained because you did provide us with a video, which is better than someone not seeing this at all. Anthony sang my favorite song (Nella Fantasia) and the background music completely ruined the song. Pull it up and hear for yourself. They unfortunately used the "Gabriel's Oboe" part where a "tribe" was singing, but unfortunately, it was so loud that you couldn't/didn't hear Anthony's beautiful voice.

Thanks again for posting the video.

  • @ricardo522042 I know that clip and also was at the Sydney Opera House to hear it live. I really like the arrangement - maybe it lost something in translation (it's pretty amazing to be able to film there at all). Or maybe you just didn't like the arrangement! The balance was better live - same with Oh Holy Night, where I thought the TV broadcast emphasised everything else too much. Very few people comment so I do thank you. OK if I ask if you're from Australia?

  • @mairanya1

I just wished that Anthony could have had the original "The Mission" theme playing in the background (there is one from the movie without the tribe hollering). Do a search of "Christopher Hess" and listen to his arrangement of O Holy Night. He ranks up there with little Anthony (in my opinion). His vibrato is awesome.

No, I'm not from Australia. I'm just an ordinary person like you who absolutely loves great voices. I do love Russell Watson and Guy Sebastian though!

  • @ricardo522042 I like both the usual slower arrangements and the Anthony one with the choir singing staccato. I like Russell Watson's voice but I love the way Anthony always builds and shapes a song. I just wondered because some of us feel Anthony needs to go overseas to get the recognition he deserves - he doesn't fit into a neat little pigeonhole because of the range of genres.

  • @mairanya1

In my opinion, Anthony could sing "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and make a hit out of it. His voice is so, so, so awesome. Some of his notes sound as if he's crying, which is hard to obtain when singing. An example of this would be from a guy named Ricky Vallen. Do a search of him singing "Sonda Me, Usa Me - Aline Barrios." Go to 4:34 and listen to him sing the higher notes. Totally, totally awesome voice.

  • @ricardo522042 Anthony's voice is beautiful throughout his range and there are also so many different colours and textures he uses at various times. His pitch is so true and he always shapes and builds songs - just some of the things I love. Live, his voice is even better, especially since so many YT clips aren't studio quality. I've travelled all over Australia to see him and when I hear him again am still 'surprised' at the beauty of his sound. I really want the world to know him.

  • @ricardo522042 Interesting comments about the "Mission". I really liked the version of Anthony singing with the chior, but understand that the sound recording was not the best, so the background could be a bit annoying or distracting (specially the drums). Anthony's voice still managed to soar over the background noise though. I think it's one of the best things he has ever sung. It really stretched him. Some of those high notes were sublime.

  • @Forwardthinker22 Yes my favourite carol of all just brilliant

  • I'm gonna follow up my better half, by posting a comment myself on this version of "O Holy Night", it may not have the same effect in the middle of Christmas Day but it still grabs me within, once this carol gets going. I just seem to forget the time of day and let this carol overwelm my very soul. It's dynamic, particularily that part where he sings in Italian. All in all it leads up to a strong finish, he's there throughout and I can't believe anybody could top this prayer. Merry Xmas!

  • @Ezdduf4kuZ Hello - it's good to hear from you again and with lovely comments, as always. Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year. I hope you've checked out his songs from Christmas Eve this year? .

  • @mairanya1 It's boxing day here in Cda, back to the grind for many of us. the malls & boxstores will be busy busy. Ahyway It still seems appropriate enough to play this carol again. Reason I commented is because of some current postings I gather, from Christmas Eve this year...I'll just have to check it out,.....mind you I can't believe Anthony could improve on this carol? I'd like to see Anthony do some beach stuff...singin' older remakes like Australia Sun, Surf City..etc.Thx lol.

  • It's Christmas eve again & when this carol has the most depth and meaning, something that Anthony puts into every word let alone every verse. He's got a dynamic voice that just seems to carry thru and hit those all important notes. Oh yes! about the choir backing him up, they proven to be very effective in making this version the best. I do like & credit Celine Dion for an excellent performance but after listening to Anthony once again, I have to agree that this is the one for me! lol

  • The one thing I regret this year? Having to work during Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight. The one good thing? I'll definately have it recorded to be able to watch every day till the next one :)

  • i love his singing but there is like a high pitched squeel with this video only from one feed and it sounds like somone is using an old vcr rewinder in the background but otherwise the singing was beautiful.

  • @tonisurber6277 I've listened so many times and never heard any squeal so maybe it's your equipment? External noise can't get in as I record TV direct, either onto a DVD or straight to the computer. I can't remember which this was. I'm glad you liked the singing anyway though and thanks for commenting - I think this dates from a time when YT was sending me emails about comments but they weren't showing for approval, so I'm sorry it took so long to acknowledge you.

  • @mairanya1 : Yes there is a scratching noise, on the L-side of the speaker. I don't really know this guy but he's awesome. One of the best versions I heard.

  • @r4nd8m As I said 4 years ago, my TV reception was poor that night which caused a sort of echo and surging in the sound - nothing in the equipment or process. I'm glad you like his voice as that's what matters isn't it.

  • Although I am not a Christian and generally do not listen to this kind of music, I have to say that Anthony rendered this song with amazing ability. If he keeps it up, he will be the next Josh Groban or even Andrea Bocelli. Thank you for posting.

  • @Nevermore1953 It's a masterful piece of singing, isn't it?

  • lol! Love the hair! Beautiful singing though! I Love Anthony Callea!

  • We always wonder at this time of year what he will be singing a the Christmas Carols. It's always the best treat of the Carols night.

  • For the most up-to-date news and information on Anthony, search on his official website, Anthony Callea News blogspot and Callea uni

  • Gives me goosebumps every time I hear Anthony's version of this carol. Such an amazing voice, just amazingly beautiful.

  • You need to put Anthony's 'Ave Maria' as well up here as a video clip together with these performances. They are all so oustandingly good.

  • @Anthologist22 I have all his carols performances up. Ave Maria was uploaded just after he sang. It's one of my favourites too.

  • This version, with Anthony's voice, the choir and the orchestra is just the best version around. And I agree with others - I can listen to this any time of year - not just Christmas.

  • I can watch this all year round, doesn't need to be Christmas to enjoy this absolutely stunning performance of O Holy Night, its the best version I have ever heard. Anthony has such an amazing voice and range.

  • Anthony and Celine Dion made the two best versions of this song^.^

  • Anthony's magnificent powerful voice singing this beautiful Christmas Carol is for me the most stunning performance of a Christmas Carol I have ever heard and seen . I LOVE the sound of Anthony's voice so much that it is one of my very favourites and I play it all year around. I love the pitch and the texture of Anthony's voice. I would really love Anthony to record a whole Christmas Album because IMO nobody sings Christmas Carols like Anthony his voice is straight from heaven. Thanks Mairanya.

  • great voice, bad hair

  • OK, Ok Enough with the hair comments, Ha. Prefer the 'great voice' comments.

  • @lifestooshort28 ha ha - the hair was a one-off appearance and wasn't seen again after Dec 24 2007. The voice remains.

  • My favourite version of this song, bar none...just superb!

  • I agree that this is the best with the orchestra and choir abckground, but did you like the recently recorded version from the "Songs of Christmas" album?

    I liked it a lot.

  • Simply magnificent.

  • Sooooo beautiful!

  • Absolutely stunning voice Anthony. I just LOVE it. I never get tired of listening to this gorgeous version by Anthony not only at Christmas but all the year around. I am so excited and looking forward to his new album. Not long to wait now.

  • Season's Greetings coming to you this News years Eve, and continuing sucess throughout the years to come Anthony. I'm up here in Vancouver Canada and I've often wondered what it would be like to live in the land down under, and you know what, I'd never know the difference...imagine?? lol

  • My favorite Christmas song and well done by Anthony. He has a wonderful voice.

  • Beautiful song and voice!

  • Merry Christmas! Jesus Christ returning May 21, 2011 4 Judgment. Pie Jesu!

  • My favourite carol and could not have been sung better, amazing so so lovely.

  • bueatiful, most bueatiful. I said it once, I said it again...so dynamic...the climax to what can be the best christmas carol ever when it comes to the religious carols anyway. merry christmas everyone/

  • Thank you for the beautiful comments. Merry Christmas to you too.

  • Bueatiful, it can be a bueatiful carol. This is the version I've been searching for...the voice, the orchestra, both are very important. He's got the dept & intensity in his voice, so the carol sound vibriant & serious. The background vocals are extremely important too, but its his voice all the way/ the orcheestra sounds dynamic, quite the finish/climax too .....I love it, it will be played most often. thanks for posting what is now my favorte version of O Holy Night, Have a good one!

  • Thanks for the great comments. It's the best version I've heard of this carol. If you haven't caught it yet, you need to hear him singing "Amazing grace" from this year's carols.

by-the-way, he has recorded this song recently with Sony and its available on itunes. It's a different version, but also very beautiful.

  • @Forwardthinker22 Anthony's voice is amazing but all the noise from others & instruments drown him out at times. To much going on. Two best versions I have ever heard have been #1 Andy Williams #2 Sam Harris

  • It's not really 'noise' is it lol. I love theis arrangement and performance - for me they're 'the best' but agree with you about the balance and remember being disappointed at the time. Maybe because he has such a powerful voice, they often make accompaniment too loud for my taste. I think this was meant to be a 'big' joint performance for a massive audience but the rehearsal the night before had a much better balance - that's on YouTube. It's to do with mixing though, not Anthony.

  • I agree. It's the sound mixing. Anthony sounds glorious, though! The last glory note is so powerful and beautiful, even considering the sound mix. His pitch is incredible. The note is so centered on pitch that depending on one's speakers (and all things considered), his voice "blends in" with the accompaniment, but if you really listen, you can hear the intensity and volume of his voice. Stunning!

  • @dolcissimo Thank you - I love your comments.

  • I have to agree with both dolcissimo and Mairanya1 here, and thank you both for your intelligent comments. The sound mixing, although fine for the occassion, does tend to let the choir and orchestra override a bit at the climax. The reheasal clip does get the balance right and allows his voice to be heard more above the choir.

However, this still remains one of my favourite 'Anthony' live performances.

  • Apparently overseas fans can buy the track from bandit. It's a very different arrangement from this one and you can hear it on Anthony's MySpace. They're both beautiful versions.

  • 'O Holy night' is now recorded by Anthony and available from itunes and Bigpond, etc.

  • Beautiful voice, Best wishes, Anthony, you handsome fellow.

  • Absolutely flawless! Yes, this is what Christmas is about! What happened to his hair?

  • I've never heard or seen this bloke before but his performance was 'perfect' in everyway from begining to end.....def my fav rendition.

  • What a lovely comment, Lockky01. I hope you check out some of his other clips as well.

  • You'll have to go a very long way to find such a beautiful rendition of this carol!

    Stunningly amazing!

This man is a treasure, I urge you to watch his version of 'Ave Maria' it's out of this world.

  • Brilliant singer

  • I have no idea who this guy is, but this is great.

  • He either won, or came second, in Australian Idol a couple of years ago.

    Cheers,

    Ian

  • He was the favourite who became runner-up in 2004

  • he must have maltese relatives, coz his surname is maltese

  • Anthony has now recorded 'O Holy night" and you can download it on itunes, Bigpond or buy the album "Stars of Christmas" from JB Hifi.

  • Overseas fans can hear it on Anthony's MySpace. It's a very diffrent version from this one.

  • OMG I can never watch or listen to this without being so overcome with emotion by its shear beauty. There is no voice finer than this anywhere in the world. As the great Pavorotti said when he sang 'The Prayer' for him - BRAVO.

    What a talent - what a Star - Bravo

  • GREAT..

THIS IS WHAT XMAS IS ALL ABOUT

  • I just love the emotion Anthony puts into the performance of this song.

  • The other version of Oh Holy Night has been added to Anthony's MySpace.

I'm sorry there seems to be a problem with comments. I'm not getting notifications to approve them and some (like mine!) aren't showing at all.

  • I just downloaded the 'Stars of Christmas' album and have been listening to the 'O Holy night' song by Anthony. It is absolutely gorgeous. Stripped back so you can hear the voice in all its lilting power and the full range of resonating tones. That last high note is marvellous!

  • You can now buy a recorded version of Anthony singing this song on a new CD released by Sony, called Stars of Christmas. It's very very different but also really beautiful.

  • I just heard about this. It's available at JB HiFi, or online from itunes. I'm off to get my copy.

  • He sung beautifully!!! I thoughroughly enjoyed it . It is really hard to sing . After I heard Charlotte Church . He & Charlotte should sing together

  • no se oye, no hay audio

  • I think it's working OK for others?

  • WoW Anthony is amazing!!

I would like his album.. I wonder if its available here in the UK??

    You are amazing Anthony!!!!! xx

  • Its always so fantastic to know that Anthony will be singing again this year at Vision Australia's Carols. There's nothing more beautiful on Christmas Eve than listening to the exquisite heavenly beautiful voice of Anthony singing Carols. Congratulations Anthony on being Ambassador once again for Vision Australia. You will do a fantastic job once again. Thank You Mairanya for posting this truely beautiful video.

  • I'm very sorry, I would like download this music, but I can't.

This song is very very beautiful. I'm French, and I like very much Anthony Callea!

Thank you for the song. Please, help me for download, I would like just a music site for download O Holy Night.

    Thank you!

  • Hello - it's beautiful, isn't it! I'm glad you like him. I've sent you a private message.

  • I'm so happy that he will be the Vision Australia Carols By Candlelight Ambassador again in 2009.

  • musicanoz,

    Is that right?

    That's fantastic news!

  • Love this, he really is amazing. :)

  • power voice.,.,.,.,

  • Very good.

  • Absolutely GORGEOUS. Anthony you have the voice of an angel. I just LOVE to listen to Anthony's extraordinary talent no matter what the time of year. I have never heard anyone sing Christmas Carols like Anthony. We are so lucky to have him in Oz. Anthony your voice is just stunning so so beautiful. What a star.

  • This would have to be one of my very favourite Carols performances ever.

A beautiful version of the song, and what a stunning voice!

  • Oh My. No-matter how manytime I have watched this it still gives me boosebumps. What a voice he has, it just never ceases to amaze me. His middle range is spine tingling. Thank yu so much for putting this up.

  • thank you! beautiful.

  • whatever he sings, makes it into a best version of all times

  • I agree with you Buzz. His version of OHolyNight, is the most amazing performance I have heard of this Carol. It simply mesmersing to watch and listen to his glorious voice.

  • This is the best version that I have heard!

  • STUNNING!

  • This is amazing...such a beautiful song and and an awesome voice!!

  • Glad you like it.

  • WOW!

This beautiful, heart-rendering gift brought tears to my eyes and touched my little ole heart. My most favorite Christmas song of all time. Thank you for this.

God bless Anthony and all Australians everywhere. ( I lived in Sydney for 9 yrs, so OZ is my second home.)

  • Thanks for your lovely comment about Anthony and OZ in general. We appreciate it. And greetings to you from OZ as well!

  • Thanks yunginspirit. That's a lovely comment

  • I heard that Anthony planned the arrangement of this piece with the Musical Director. This young man does not only have a absolutely stunning voice but has a wonderful ear for music, he's a very talented musician.

  • This is without a doubt the most stunning performance of this hauntingly beautiful song I have ever heard.

Anthony is a star, the rest of the world needs to hear this amazing artist.

  • Just randomly, isn't it o' holy night?

  • o' means something's left out. The first word is written Oh or O - does it matter? Will it change your mind about the song? lol

  • I love this guys voice! I'm addicted to listening to this song, his vocals are simply amazing! So sad he didn't win the Australian Idol...did they make a recording of this song?? I need to buy it, cd quality of this song would be great news to me!

  • Sadly no - and my reception had this echo that night, so I don't even have a better TV recording. There are lots of songs that Anthony has sung only once and this is one of them. There are even more that he's sung a few times but never recorded. I'd love studio recordings of them. Have you heard Ave Maria from the following year?

  • he is really amazing!!!!

  • too bad the audio quality isn't the best.. !

but it's superb! love it!!! and he's just one the best singers ever <3

  • I made two different recordins on different equipment and the sound had that echo and surging on both, unfortunately. Even in 2008 the broadcast wasn't on HD. There are some rehearsal clips and also maybe a private recording which you might like. The balance seemed different and you could hear his voice more prominently than on TV. I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway and thanks for commenting.

  • whenever i hear anthony i get goosebumps everywhere! man, he's just perfection.

  • lol - me too.

  • John Foreman's words were that it was Anthony's 'vocal interpretation' when I asked about that beautiful part where the choir carries the melody and Anthony does that goosebump harmony. I love it sung by great classical voices like Pavarotti and Jussi Bjorling, but find this so fresh and thrilling. I think the arranger was probably John Foreman for choir, orchestra and soloist, because as people forget, it was for a massive audience to sing-along with, if they could lol.

  • What a gorgeous performance by Anthony, and beautifully accompanied by the Choir.

A lovely arrangement too. Am I right in thinking that Anthony arranged the song himself?

  • I have to laugh at the 'critic' below, who suggests that Callea needs' help' with the note.

The man has a strong, pure, and beautiful voice throughout it's entire range, he certainly doesn't need 'help' reaching and sustaining much bigger and much higher notes than that one!

  • I didn't say he needed help with the note, I said the BACKGROUND SINGERS helped him too much (were too loud) that I couldn't tell if it was him singing it or them or a mix of both. All I said was I wanted to hear a version of him singing without anyone backing him up. Opinion: That note is what makes this song and what defines you as the singer for this song. This execution of this note, to me, separates you from other singers who sing this song. I just wanted to hear him do it solely.

  • This is the National Boys Choir and they're not 'background singers' but partners in this. There are lots of singers who can execute one note beautifully and I need more than one note to judge a 4-minute song - like phrasing, richness of tone, interpretation but you're entitled to your opinion of course and we just have different tastes. Thanks for coming back and explaining. This was a one-off live appearance of this song but there are plenty of big notes in other songs.

  • In the rehearsal clip for this song, you can hear him clearly without the full-on choir. It's been filmed on a mobile phone, but the sound is OK. Try listening to that.

And if you want to hear him hold an even higher note powerfully for about 5 seconds take a listen to Nella Fantasia filmed at the Sydney Opera House.

  • Spot on, Boqit2me. Two years on and we're still watching this clip regularly. Such a strong pure voice. And such a beautiful version of this song, with the choir and orchestra backing.

    A joy to listen to.

  • I still come back to listen to this wonderful rendition - so beautifully outstanding - equalled only by his rendition of "Ave Maria"

  • OMG had occasion to visit this again after a while and what can I say?? Goosebumps on goosebumps - 'dramatic tenor' is it? all I know is it is rich velvety tenor and I love it. The best version ever and the sheer beauty of it moves me to tears.

    Anthony you are the master

  • **Sigh** I just love this performance. Its right up there at the top.

  • I just never can get enough of hearing the most beautiful heavenly voice of Anthony singing this beautiful song. No one else sings Carols like Anthony his unique voice is just pure magic and the emotion and passion he puts into his performances is equalled by none. Thank You Mairanya for posting it and Thank You Anthony for sharing your heavenly talent and bringing so much pleasure and joy.

  • Is it wrong to love listening to Christmas songs when it's not Christmas? My favourite version of this song. Anthony is just so freaking amazing.

  • Anthony is a passionate performer and O Holy Night is no exception. It is my favourite carol that I have heard him sing. That big note and the build up to it was a moment indeed, but it is his lower register that I personally feel even more appealing. It must have been very special to have heard this live, especially outdoors. Thank you!

  • Just awesome...

Gives me goosebumps everytime I hear Anth sing...

  • beautiful voice, but his haircut has got to go haha

  • All time fave X-mass song and he sings his version so beautifully, and there is NONE! better then this...makes me melt every time i watch it...Also his version of Ave Maria, AAMAZING!! hi5 on that one to.

  • Just brilliant, I live in NZ now (ex pat Australian) ...sooo good to find this! He is a world class singer to be proud of. Thanks for putting it up. Cheers :)

  • Anthony buy a summer Home in Portland Maine! - no one will bother you here. and the bridge from the south .. the 77 bridge. . looks like a ride into Melbourne.

    Please Grant us your blessings.

  • OMG... it is january 27th and i just came across this... this is now my fav version of this song... anthony you are a talent above no other... i hope u tour amercia soon.. i will be there... thanks for a beautiful song

  • I'm pleased you found Anthony Callea. You might like to hear him singing Ave Maria from this year's Carols by Candlelight. His third album will be out this year. Stay tuned - it will be FANTASTIC!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • I think I might be the 40,000th viewer of this stunning version of O Holy Night.

  • Just beautiful - I never tire of hearing it.

  • I just had to come back and watch this tonight. Anthony sings this so beautifully, I have heard none better. Its such and emotive and haunting performance. I can't remember when a song has drawn me in as this one has.

  • He is a rare talent...superb!

  • Nice....

  • would you like to tell me his vocal range....please

  • t's not really any bigger than most singers (even whitney's range in her records is just over 3 octaves) but he maintains such a thick tone, and great control in his upper register.

  • I don't know what his range is, but you are right about the powerful tone and control in the upper registers especially. Just listen to that note at 3:33.

In 'Nella Fantasia' I think he goes even higher and holds it for around 6 seconds.

He also has a rich lower register that resonates powerfully in songs like 'I wanna know what love is.' Just search the titles to check out the clips on Youtube.

  • He doesn't appear to have a four-octave range as some of the exceptionally ranged singers do, but there are few pop-singers who can reach A flat in full voice, as he does. I don't know what his full range is either, but I think both he and Whitney have a lot more than most pop-singers. (If you're replying to vogueprinzon, he wanted to know if Anthony would be classified as a baritone or a tenor).

  • I'm no expert on music (wish I was) but Anthony would have to be classed as a "tenor' with a very good lower range thrown in, wouldn't he?

  • I'm not an expert either but someone who is told me that he'd be classed a 'dramatic tenor'.

  • That's interesting. Just what is a 'dramatic tenor?'

  • His arrangement of the chorus is amazing. He really captures the feeling of the song, and has a very nice tone on the high notes. Well done!

  • Does anyone know if you can buy a recording of this? I don't understand why he isn't more famous. He needs to give his manager and agent the boot. He should be a household name. I wish he'd put out a Christmas album.

  • There are lots of songs that Anthony has sung, but not recorded. I'm hoping one day we'll have them and more as studio versions and also that he will soon be promoted worldwide. A Christmas album would be brilliant. Have you heard this year's performance of Ave Maria?

  • You know, I have watched/heard many 'very' famous international artists performing this song, but not ONE of them has the sincerity and true emotional quality of this artist! He will go down in history as one of the worlds finest performers.

  • I really hope so.

  • His voice just gets better, I keep this in my 'fav videos' on my computer, d/l from the TV live show last year. Check out his carol for 2008, "Ave Maria" it's stupendous.

  • Anthony Callea - The King Of Vocals!!!

  • I live in America and it was only by accident I found Anthony Callea...I am so glad i did.

People talk about Josh Groban and how good his voice is (which it is, no doubt) but Callea's voice is better.

I think he is the best male vocalist in the world.

I think David Phelps version of this is a little better, but still overall I think Callea is the best.

  • David Phelps has a beautiful voice in a very different style. I hope to hear another version of him singing this beautiful song, as I don't much like the version on YouTube. I'm happy you found Anthony and like him so much. Thanks for the comment!

  • I prefer Josh's voice to both David and Anthony's. Josh sings it like it is and makes doesn't try to make it fancy or flashy like both Dave and Anthony do. Anthony has too much of an American Idol/pop singing voice and fluctuates between pitches(purposefully, not accidentally) . Plus, I would like to see another version of him singing this song because I feel that the background singers helped him too much with the high "Noel" note at 3:33. He can sing, yes, but I think Josh is better.

  • Music isn't one big competition. I prefer this for lots of reasons, but I don't go to any David clip and post why. He doesn't need any 'help' with big notes - that's the arrangement. He is a pop singer but his training has made him very atypical, not at all like any American Idol style. It's largely a matter of taste and I find Josh sweet but boring, occasionally wobbly in pitch. I won't post that on his clip though and wouldn't normally write it at all. Sorry if my frustration shows!

  • I only made a comment about Josh because I saw that Johnnewb was saying that he thought Anthony was better. I wasn't planning on straight out posting a comment that said "Josh Groban is better" because I knew that wouldn't go well with you or a lot of other people. I just wanted to voice my opinion after

    what Johnnewb said.

  • I have to agree with the previous response. Why do we have to say one singer is better than another? It's a matter of taste surely? And for me this is the best version of this song I have ever heard.

By-the-way, you can see him singing another 'version' of this song in the 'rehearsal' clip. In this clip, you can clearly hear Anthony without the choir, hitting and holding that high note.

  • I forgot about Johnnewb. 'I prefer Josh Groban'as you first phrased it is more accurate than that 'he's better'. But it might be nicer to say what you like about him rather than criticise Anthony for what seemed like strange reasons and then throw in remarks about American Idol. His style has nothing to do with that show. Sorry for the fierceness but it looked from remarks like that as though you were mainly throwing insults.

  • -Not exactly participating in the "debate"- i just wanted to say "It is nice to see civil debates on youtube without the often seen string of swear words!"

  • Not sure what debate that is, but thanks anyway. lol

  • I have to agree with you there sweetboycalvin. I love a good civil debate, but can happily live without the abusers.

Just here to listen to great singing.

  • I agree too but not sure where the debate is here. lol

  • No debate from me.

I just think this is one of Anthony best performances ever and it is unique to his own style.

I think SweetboyCalvin may have been referring to the debale about whether he should or should not have won Oz Idol in 2004.

  • its hard to believe this was a year ago tonight!!!
