McGann looked a bit like Beethoven. We would not know how long he lasted....guess we could say 'Quite a while' and imagine our own adventures with him
It wasn't as though the two happened directly after another. Paul McGann became the 8th Doctor, when Doctor Who was experimenting with the TV Movie format, because the BBC went into a co-production with Universal, as they didn't want to pay for all of it. There was originally going to be a movie series if the first was received well overseas (the US), but although the UK loved it, the US largely ignored it, and so Universal broke up the deal leaving the Doctor Who, and Paul McGann in the lurch.
That was 1996, and it was 9 years before the BBC were persuaded to try Doctor Who again, and of course approached Russell T. Davies to helm it. Even though, I would have given Paul McGann a fresh series first, Russell T. Davies decided he wanted his Doctor Who to be new and fresh, with as little ties to the past as possible, including a new Doctor, so that was that. We had the brilliant Christopher Eccleston, but poor old Paul McGann was still left. One day I hope they rectify this.
"We had the brilliant Christopher Eccleston, but poor old Paul McGann was still left. One day I hope they rectify this."
Well, his Doctor was canonized in two slideshows of past Doctors, not to mention Matt's Doctor has confirmed that he's number 11 (there were 7 Doctors before McGann's Doctor appeared, 7 plus 4, that is, McGann, Eccleston, Tennant, and Matt, is 11)
And finally, there's all the Expanded Universe stuff going on with McGann's Doctor.
TBH all I can see of that now is a few multi-Doctor stories, unless Matt teams up with Eight at some point in his life, or some of the future Doctors does it.
@kylephantom4 Unfortunately the TV movie failed here in the States because of poor marketing on FOX's part. The network gave the film little advertising build-up before it aired. I seem to recall they only aired one commercial for it and that was the Sunday before it was scheduled to air, which if I recall correctly was on a Tuesday where it was up against popular shows like Mad About You, Home Improvement, Rosanne, and Frasier.
this is a great intro for McGann's Doctor. i really loved the music. where did you find it? it is very close to what i was thinking of using in my DW series that i am working on. i would appreciate it if could let me know. Thanks. 5/5
That's the general theory. The 9th Doctor acted like his regeneration was very recent in the first episode of the new series, meaning it was probably the final battle of the Time War that caused the regeneration.
Paul McGann himself was pretty good I think, what was wasted was that it never materialized into a series, just a mediocre film with a poor storyline. Although, there are those audiobooks with Paul McGann...
Hes proven to be a brilliant doctor in the expanded continuity of the Audios and especially the EDA novels. All they need to do now is bring McGann in for a either a movie or BBC mini series to bridge the gap to Eccleston. Really show McGann to be the great doctor he is
i would have loved a show in the 1990s with the 8th doctor...i think his doctor was the fist i saw a story from (maybe 7th a few years before but i cant remember it) i also liked his TARDIS...but a show in America i wonder how the Daleks would have looked like
You can get this version of Doctor Who's theme from whomix website just type in eaglestriker themes in google and it will come up down the list "i just got the tune too lol" very good - i recommend Hardwire too he does a very good DW Theme - Peace T x
Hardwire is AWESOME. And so's this. Very nice; I actually liked the TV movie's theme, but I daresay both remixers have done a finer job with the idea than the original, going in their own respective directions of course. ^.^
I agree with you totally 100% Hardwire is one of the best and talented people that actually does this theme tune to such professional level. He could quite easily make one of his mixes for a movie or incedental music for the show ^^
Totally Awesome in the best possibly way!! Wow! they should USE THIS!! lol if they were to think about bringing the 8th Doctor to be telivised at all! this would be perfect! T
I've also made a version of this alongside the David Arnold arrangement made for the 8th Doctor Big Finish audios, but as I wasn't a YouTube member when I made it, my brother - member Phil94B posted it up on his account. It's titled - "8th Doctor Opening Titles (Big Finish - David Arnold theme"
Both i) and ii) can be found on the WHOMIX website, but I haven't posted this mixed edit up on WHOMIX myself as none of the composition or arranging was of my own design.
Strictly speaking the arrangement as heard on the video doesn't really exist. The track is a mix of my own construction, mixing and editing together the following:
i) "Last of the Timelords" by Eaglestriker
ii) "An Eighth Regeneration" by Eaglestriker
iii) "Doctor Who - 2002 Stereo Remix" arranged by Delia Derbyshire & mixed by Mark Ayres.
I guess I don't mind people using the theme as long as they credit it to Eaglestriker (the theme I mean), who's really the real talent behind the theme. I just edited and mixed it together to fit my title sequence.
How marvellously creative! McGann should have had a BBC run as the Doctor. Universal clearly did not get it with their gorgeous FX, but lame story. Perhaps a BBC series "DOCTOR WHO: THE LOST YEARS" could be made.
God I wish Paul Mcgann wasn't the George lazenby of the "Whoverse" He would have been a great Doctor.I was just nervous that it was not made by the BBC.
read the "eighth doctor adventures" novels, and/or listen to a couple big finish audios, if they ever do a multi doctor crossover, i hope mcgann is in it, he and david tennant play the doctor with the same manic unpredictability.
A multi doctor crossover would be awkward: "yeah, sorry to tell you this, but your whole race and home planet will be completely destroyed in a long and brutal war with the daleks."
Nicely done. Since this would have been an American-produced series it would have been cool to see a "Created by Sydney Newman and Donald Wilson" credit! ;)
What do we want? An extended version!
When do we want it? Right now!
