I loved this phone when I got it, but the first two weeks I got it I had to go to verizon because the accelerometer was going haywire and verizon didn't want me to get the eris because of its software problems.....so they gave me an lg ally instead:( worst phone ever! I'm expecting third replacement tomorrow...........

This is a terrible, terrible phone. The battery life sucks, the touch screen is difficult, it freezes and lags, and just today it crashed and deleted all my stuff. DO NOT GET THIS PHONE! It seems great at first but then it becomes terrible

@tabora587 Never bought one from there. And I probably wouldn't unless you have some recourse if you can't activate it. If a phone is stolen and someone some where down the line tries to activate it, VzW won't activate it if that ESN # comes up stolen. The Eris comes with WiFi and it was inly made with 3G. Why would you want it without? It's not like you won't get to activate it with a cheaper data plan, it is still a smartphone so it's $29.99 for the smartphone plan.

I can upgrade to this phone with Verizon for free, but it says I need a $29.99 data plan to go with it. Is the phone usable without the data plan? I mean if you're near a wi-fi spot it will pick up the 'net, right?

@Britannic1915 It depends if you're good at texting on a touchscreen.I wouldn't get it if mostly what you want to do with it is text. It would be overqualified and expensive for a texting phone.

Just a correction, you specifically mention that the port on the bottom is USB, and not Mini-USB. In fact,. the port is actually Mini-USB (With additional corner cut-out from HTC). Any Mini-USB compliant plug will fit in there (Like any other HTC device). Regular(-size) USB-A or USB-B type connectors will not fit to the phone. Best regards.

You should download App Killer for your phone that way your running apps don't take down the pattery life. The battery for this phone runs out rather quickly.

Not necessarily. There are different tiers of voice plans and if the data plan is an add-on for that phone, then no. What you'd want to do is upgrade the whole family plan to the Premium or Connect plan which has unlimited data and would apply to all the phones on the plan.

technically you can but its a capsitive touch screen wich means it reacts to the heat give off by your finger as oposed to the resistive wich is two screens being pressed together were something (a stylus) brings them together at a certain point on the screen im not sure were to get them but there are capsitive styluses (im not sure how they work but they somehow react to the heat sensitive screen) that can be used on screens such as this one

In all reality, its not fantastic but if you want to extend the life you can shut off the GPS and other things. I have the multimedia station and the window mount so I take advantage of those times to charge it. When you see all this can do, its like you don't even care about it draining batteries!

Well, you asked the million dollar question! I am currently using the Imagio and the Moto Droid. If I had a third line, I'd have this on it so in the meantime, I have it hooked up via WiFi. This Droid Eris is a great model for $100 less. It is a bit slower because its an earlier version of Android but it still has some great features. Tough to answer. I think I need a few more days to decide. If it came down to $ I would get the Eris. The Imagio is my fav phone to date.
