You don't need to hold anything if you clear a piece or a bong. When you clear the piece your taking the extra air in as if you were holding your breath. You only have to hold your breath if your hitting Ls or Js as you cannot "clear" the smoke.

no, but that's actually a common misconception. you are only supposed to hold it in for no longer than 5-7 seconds after you inhale. after 7 seconds your lungs have already absorbed virtually all of the THC and CBD in the smoke. Hold it in for any longer and you will just be holding in the tar and smoke in your lungs!
